Chapter 15

Spotlight

The auditorium buzzed with excitement as students, parents, and teachers filled the seats for the annual recital. Clara sat backstage, violin in hand, her fingers trembling slightly.

Liam crouched beside her, cello ready. “Hey, breathe,” he whispered. “We’ve got this. Just like we practiced.”

Clara nodded, feeling the familiar flutter in her chest—not just nerves, but something deeper when he was near.

When their turn arrived, they stepped onto the stage together. The bright lights made the audience a blur, leaving only the music and each other. As the first notes rang out, Clara felt Liam’s presence anchor her, their instruments weaving a perfect harmony.

Halfway through the piece, a brief slip of tempo made her panic. She glanced at Liam, who gave a reassuring nod. That small gesture reminded her why they worked so well together—trust.

By the final note, the hall erupted in applause. Clara’s heart swelled as Liam’s eyes met hers, a quiet triumph and unspoken affection shared between them.

After the performance, Liam nudged her playfully. “So… hot chocolate?”

Clara laughed, her nerves melting into warmth. “Definitely. But only if you admit I played better than you today.”

He feigned offense. “You know I can’t do that.”

She bumped him gently with her shoulder. “Fine. Then I’ll just enjoy watching you pout.”

Walking off the stage together, their fingers brushed again, lingering slightly longer this time.

The slow burn between them was no longer just a flicker—it was growing into something undeniable.

Music had brought them together, but trust, laughter, and shared moments were weaving a bond that neither wanted to rush, yet both were eager to explore.
