Chapter 14
A Misread Note
The next morning, Clara arrived at the academy early, hoping to get a head start on her solo practice. She found a folded piece of paper slipped under her music stand. Curious, she opened it—and froze.
The note read:
“Can’t stop thinking about you. Meet me behind the practice hall after rehearsal. –L”
Her heart raced, but so did her thoughts. Liam had left this? Or had someone played a prank? And if it was Liam, why so secretive?
During practice, Clara found herself distracted, her mind spinning with possibilities. Every glance Liam threw her way seemed loaded, and she misread a friendly gesture as something more. When he passed her a sheet music page, she nearly dropped it.
After rehearsal, she waited nervously behind the hall, scanning for any sign of Liam. Moments later, Evan appeared.
“Looking for someone?” he asked, smirking.
Clara’s stomach dropped. “Liam… I mean, yes…”
Evan raised an eyebrow. “Ah, so that note was from him. Careful, Clara. Things might get complicated.”
Before she could respond, Liam appeared, looking confused. “Clara? What are you doing back here?”
She held up the note. “This… you wrote this?”
Liam laughed softly, shaking his head. “Oh! No, I didn’t. Someone must have slipped that under your stand. I didn’t want to scare you with a secret meeting. That’s… not my style.”
Clara felt a mix of relief and embarrassment. “I… overreacted.”
He smiled warmly, reaching for her hand. “It’s okay. Misunderstandings happen. But hey, it gave us a quiet moment together, didn’t it?”
Clara laughed softly, letting herself relax. “Yeah… I suppose it did.”
Even in the confusion, their bond strengthened.
The slow burn between them wasn’t without hurdles, but each misunderstanding, each small test, only made the connection more real.
By the time they walked back to the hall, hands brushing, Clara knew that trust—and their music—would guide them forward.
