Chapter 11 Fireworks and a Necklace
Chi Wen left the next day.
A few days later, Gu Shang also went back because of company matters.
Once the two of them were gone, Su Qi and I started feeling restless too.
While I was staring blankly at the sea thinking about Chi Wen, the door was suddenly flung open.
Su Qi plopped down beside me and chugged a big mouthful of beer.
"Back so soon?" I asked. "You were gone less than twenty minutes."
With Gu Shang gone, Su Qi could finally go to the bar freely.
I'd thought he would party all night, but he came back this early.
Su Qi gave a muffled "mm."
Seeing him like this, I understood.
I looked at him.
He looked at me.
Me: "How about…?"
Su Qi: "Change our tickets?"
Agreement reached. The two of us quickly changed our flights, leaving a few days earlier than planned.
Ever since we flew back, one thought kept circling in my mind.
It grew bigger and bigger until one night I finally told Su Qi what I was thinking.
As expected, Su Qi exploded. "What! You're going to confess to Chi Wen?!"
"No way! I won't allow it!" He refused firmly. "Why should you? He doesn't deserve it! He should be the one confessing to you first! No five hundred roses and a pigeon-egg diamond? You don't accept!"
Chi Wen was a rich young master—tall, handsome, great personality. Only Su Qi would think he wasn't good enough for me.
My eyes stung. I sniffled and called him, "Su Qi."
"Acting cute won't work either!" Su Qi looked like he wanted to beat some sense into me. "How did he wrap you around his finger so completely? After crushing on him for so many years, you still haven't grown at all! What if he bullies you later?"
"I'm not afraid." I smiled fawningly at Su Qi. "I know you'll always have my back."
Su Qi sighed helplessly and flicked my forehead.
Even though I planned to confess to Chi Wen, my cowardice kept delaying it. Every time the words reached my lips, I swallowed them back down.
After dragging it out for almost a month, even Su Qi was speechless. "Are you messing with me? I've seen people settle scores after autumn, but never confess after autumn."
Me: "..."
On the day I finally made up my mind to confess, I tried hard to act calm.
We followed the plan: watched a movie, had dinner, then went to the amusement park.
I'd checked in advance—there was a night event these days with a fireworks show.
When the fireworks started, I would confess to Chi Wen.
Everything went smoothly at first. Chi Wen and I found a quiet spot with few people and waited.
I was so nervous my palms were sweating. Chi Wen noticed me taking deep breaths and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, nothing." I waved my hands quickly. "I'm just really looking forward to the fireworks."
Chi Wen smiled.
At eight o'clock sharp, the fireworks began.
I took one last deep breath, stood on tiptoe, and leaned close. "Chi Wen."
Chi Wen lowered his head to look at me as the fireworks bloomed behind him. "Hm?"
I started the line I'd practiced countless times. "I—"
But before the second word came out, Chi Wen interrupted. "Wait."
So my confession stopped halfway. I stared at him blankly, not understanding what I was waiting for.
Chi Wen reached into his pocket, pulled out a necklace, opened the clasp, and bent slightly to fasten it around my neck.
A wave of happiness wrapped around me. I didn't dare move, afraid of breaking the moment.
"That was close. Almost got beaten to it." After securing the necklace, Chi Wen stepped back a little and looked at me with a smile.
"Want to be with me?"
