Chapter 10 Gu Shang’s Silence

Chi Wen and Gu Shang booked the villa right next door and stayed on the island with us for a few days.

Su Qi ignored Gu Shang completely. Every night he headed straight to the bar.

Gu Shang threw money around and booked the entire bar, forcing Su Qi to come stomping back while cursing under his breath.

Su Qi stormed ahead in a huff. Gu Shang followed quietly behind.

They followed all the way to the villa door. Su Qi stepped in first—Gu Shang tried to follow.

Su Qi blocked the door with all his strength. "You're not coming in!"

Gu Shang was tall and strong. If he really wanted to force his way in, Su Qi couldn't stop him.

But Gu Shang didn't use force. He only said, "Su Qi, what exactly do you want?"

"What do I want?" Su Qi was furious. "Shouldn't I be asking you? I listened to you and stopped being your Simp. Now you're the one clinging to me. What do you want? You want me to be the other man?"

"Not the other man." Gu Shang frowned. "There's no feeling between us."

Su Qi laughed out of sheer anger. "Whether there's feeling or not doesn't matter! To everyone else, that's exactly what I'd be! A male mistress!"

Gu Shang's face turned frighteningly dark. "Su Qi."

"Get lost!" Su Qi finally managed to slam the door shut. "Until you figure it out, we have nothing to talk about."

Gu Shang stood outside in silence for five full minutes. His raised hand dropped again. His mouth opened and closed. In the end, he turned and left.

Chi Wen and I were watching from not far away as he walked toward us.

Chi Wen patted his shoulder without saying anything.

I looked at Gu Shang. "Can we talk?"

He gave a small nod.

We walked to the beach. I spoke first. "When he found out about your engagement, he was really upset."

"He isn't as carefree on the inside as he looks." I went on. "My brother is good-looking and has a great personality. He's been chased by tons of people since he was young. But he's never pursued anyone this seriously before."

"Until you figure out what you really feel toward him, I hope you stay away. He deserves someone better—someone who can choose him firmly."

Gu Shang listened quietly to my accusations.

After a long pause, he finally spoke. "Before the engagement, I just thought—since there's no feeling anyway, it doesn't matter who I marry. It wouldn't change anything."

"Your brother is an overly beautiful butterfly. It's not that I don't want him to land here." Gu Shang paused before continuing. "I'm just afraid he'll only stop for a short while and then fly away again."

"If he really flies away, then it's your problem." The words slipped out before I could think. "You're not good enough to keep him."

Gu Shang froze.

I didn't want to talk anymore. I turned to leave.

A few steps later, I heard Gu Shang's voice behind me. "I'll cancel the engagement."

I kept walking and saw Chi Wen waiting for me the whole time.

"Don't worry." Chi Wen gently pressed the spot between my furrowed brows. "Gu Shang is an iron tree finally blooming. He just hasn't figured it out yet. He'll be fine once he does."

I nodded.

"By the way." He suddenly said, "Something came up at the company. I might have to fly back tomorrow."

My heart started to ache faintly. I didn't dare look at him. "Oh… okay."

When we reached the villa door, I said goodbye. "Bye."

Chi Wen didn't move. "Anything else you want to say?"

I didn't know what to say for a moment. Chi Wen saw my confusion and smiled very gently. "Then I have something to say."

"Come back soon, Xixi." He leaned closer, eyes bright.

"I'll miss you a lot when you're not here."
