Chapter 13 The Phone Call
Her words startled me.
The air seemed to choke me.
I coughed violently. My phone in my pocket vibrated.
Lanxi walked around the table and sat beside me.
"Why did you choke suddenly?"
Lanxi handed the warm water to me. "Drink some water."
I reached for the glass, but my fingers touched hers.
Her fingers felt cool, reminding me of ice cream sold in summer.
"I need to take a call."
I stood up and rushed into the bathroom.
I closed the door and took out my phone. It was Shen Yizheng calling.
"Hello."
"Where are you? Why didn't you come back all night?"
Shen Yizheng tried hard to suppress his anger on the other end.
"I'm at Lanxi's house."
"Lanxi's house?" Shen Yizheng's voice filled with disbelief. "You insisted on following her, right?"
I rolled my eyes hard. "Are you sick?"
"Let Lanxi answer the phone. I don't believe you're at her house." Shen Yizheng roared, "Lanxi has a cleanliness obsession. She would never let anyone stay overnight!"
I held back my curse words.
I walked out of the bathroom and handed the phone to Lanxi.
"Shen Yizheng wants you to answer." I shrugged and sat back in the chair.
I vaguely heard their conversation.
"You really let Baoying stay at your house?"
"Yes."
"You didn't lie to me, right?" Shen Yizheng's voice carried regret. "I haven't even been to your house yet."
"Why would I lie? I made breakfast for Baoying this morning." Lanxi paused. "Baoying said she liked it very much."
I stopped chewing. Why did Lanxi's tone sound like she was showing off?
No, it must be my illusion.
