Chapter 2
Amara’s POV
Ethan stared at me, his eyes intense.
“Amara, there’s something I need to tell you” he began, his voice steady yet filled with emotions. “I’ve always harbored feelings for you.”
I felt my heart skip a beat. “Ethan, I...”
He held up a hand, stopping me gently. “Please, let me finish. I hoped that once we got our wolves, we would recognize each other as mates. I’ve been eager for you to get your wolf, thinking it might finally bring us together”
“Ethan, I had no idea you felt this way. We are not mates, otherwise I would have felt something” I said softly, feeling the weight of my words on his face.
“The thought of you being mated to someone else frightens me, Amara” he confessed, his voice breaking slightly. “I don’t want to lose you at any cost. But I know these things are beyond our control”
I nodded, understanding the depth of his feelings.
“Only the Moon Goddess can bind any two wolves in an eternal bond. I always loved how our parents have this wonderful bond between them. Since childhood we knew we will meet our mates one day and fall in love instantly. I want to experience that feeling in my life.
I don’t want to go against destiny” I whispered, looking into his eyes.
Ethan was silent for few minutes, “I understand. I think moon goddess has some other plans for our future. I might have ruined our friendship with my confession, right?”
I felt sadness holding his paw with mine, ” Don’t be a silly, you are my best friend and I love you like you are my own family; nothing will ever come between that”
After a while, Debby’s wolf joined us. She had a small reddish wolf with black eyes, resembling her petite human self.
We all spent some time together and then returned to the pack house.
After returning, we went to our rooms, cleaned up, and got dressed for the dinner party.
I wore a purple dress that complemented my green eyes and black hair.
Once I came out, I was greeted by Debby and Ethan.
“Amara, Debby, you guys look great!” Ethan said with his flirting smile.
“You look great too” I smiled back at him. Later we joined the others for dinner.
I was curious before, how it would feel to be a wolf. Now that I am one, I cannot ask for more. Although shifting was painful initially, once you get used to your wolf, there is no greater comfort. You always have this one person with you, who will never ever leave you, no matter what.
Once the feast got over the three of us met before going to bed, to discuss our plan for a “secret” clubbing, tomorrow night to celebrate me turning 18.
Debby and Ethan are party people and already had prior experience in these things, whereas for me, it was my first time going out without my parents knowledge. I was terrified and of course excited.
The day after our shifting was like any other regular day.
There was laughter, chaos and chatter in the pack house.
Ethan and I enrolled to our pack’s college for a medical degree.
Debby wanted to learn cooking and become a good chef like her mother, so she decided to take classes from her mother starting tomorrow.
After dinner, once all the hustle settled in the pack house, the three of us sneaked out and reached a club from a neighbouring pack.
Ethan had to bribe our pack’s security personnel more this time, since he was reluctant to allow me to cross the border without my dad’s knowledge.
Everything is not easy for an Alpha’s offspring.
I am wearing a black knee-length shimmery dress and my hair was tied in a ponytail, looking more girly and sensual than my regular self.
Debby wore a white body-hugging dress to fit her petite stature, paired with black stilettos. Ethan wore a black button-up shirt and blue torn jeans, looking like a male supermodel.
We reached the club around 11 pm. Even though I was skeptical about this decision, I was enjoying the music and the people’s carefree attitude. Here, no one cared that I was the Alpha’s precious daughter.
We all drank around three or four pints of beer in no time, started to get the hang of the ambiance and moved our bodies to the popping music.
All of a sudden, Eva became restless and agitated. I thought it’s because of the crowd and music. I ignored it.

Zachary’s POV
I am working in my office, fully submerged in a pile of pack work. There are loads of pending pack projects, fundings, rogue matters and other activities.
I’m Zachary Gray, alpha of Night Blood pack. I might be 25 and young but, I’m a proud, powerful and of course a really handsome alpha of one of the largest pack in South America.
“Yes, we are handsome and strong” Aiden, my wolf nods in agreement.
I was crowned at the age of 15 when my father, Alpha David Gray, died in a war between wolves and humans. My dad was a great father, husband and an alpha.
He always supported the idea of peace between humans and us. He thought with little effort from both sides we can live in harmony. But much to his dismay, other alphas were against it. They wanted to dominate on humans, which lead to a horrific war which continued for almost two years.
In the end both parties agreed for a treaty and would live in their separate worlds.
But unfortunately I lost my dad in the process.
I cried for straight three days after hearing the news of his demise, but I realised soon after I don’t have a luxury of crying anymore.
I had to take care of my mom, my people and my pack.
My mother Luna Jasmine Gray, barely survived after this tragedy. It’s common knowledge that most wolves either die or go feral, after losing their mate. But she composed herself for me and our pack’s well being. She knew I can’t bear loss of another parent.
The loss of my beloved father made me understand my responsibilities, power of politics and family dynamics in a hard way.
Hence once I became the Alpha, I lost my carefree and joyful attitude.
Now I’m a cold, diplomatic and powerful alpha who is acknowledged greatly by my peers, pack members and the neighbouring packs.
For every werewolf, there is a mate who is their other half, basically a soulmate.
A werewolf comes of age at 18 and then they can shift into their beast form.
After that we can connect with our inner wolf, shift at any time on our own will.
There after we can identify our mate using our impressive sense of smell or a touch or for some people it’s even from eye contact.
Once you find your mate, you are bound to them forever.
Unlike humans, there’s only one mate for a wolf; in some rare cases, they get a second chance mate, but it’s a very rare gift from our goddess Selene, the Moon.
Usually mates stick to their destiny but there is a way to go against it; a mutual rejection can separate you from this bond, but of course, rejection or denying the bond comes with consequences.
I fear the impact, a mate bond could have on me. If in future I find my mate and end up losing her or similar way if she loses me, the amount of pain we would get from this is insane. The thought alone is unbearable. Because of this reason, I don’t want a true mate.
However there’s a catch, for any pack to thrive, it needs both its alpha and luna. Together, they lead the pack and their children become the heirs to the alpha title. Therefore, I can’t just stay away from being mated.
I need a luna for my pack , whether chosen by the elder’s council or selected by me.
But I certainly need a strong luna who can do the job well.
But one thing is sure, witnessing my mother’s struggle to cope with her loss, I am resolute that my relationship with my luna will be more of a business partnership than a romantic attachment.
I have turned 25 this year and haven’t found my mate yet. I am hoping to never find one, so that I can select Alpha Baron’s daughter, Michelle as my chosen mate and declare her as my luna. Michelle is 23, a strong and beautiful she-wolf who has always loved the idea of becoming my Luna.
Alpha Baron is the alpha of the neighbouring Black Stone Pack and was my late father’s best friend. He has always adored me and given his support and guidance for my pack matters.
If I accept Michelle as my luna, my pack will get a powerful luna and Black Stone Pack’s backing for lifetime. But my wolf, Aiden, is against this arrangement; he wants our fated mate, not some calculated business deal to become our life.
