“June?” Don sounded equally surprised to see her.
He gestured for me to stand up from his laps which I did, then watched him rise from the chair as June heard towards us.
She stared at us both, an unreadable smile playing on her lips. “I see you two are attracted to each other.”
Don's brows were pulled to a deep frown. “What are you doing here?”
“Is that how you welcome someone you haven't seen for months?”
What was she doing here?
Oh no, I really hoped she wasn't here to cause a problem, though she looked like that was her reason for the sudden arrival.
She had on a wine mid thigh off shoulder gown that popped out her curves, showing an indecent amount of her cleavage.
Her makeup had been done in similar style to those wealthy people in movies, only giving her a creepy look.
The wine heels she had on was as high as ever, it made me wonder how she could walk in those things.
“I’m happy June, I don't want you coming to ruin that.” He had that stern tone he only ever used when speaking to her.
“Trust me when I say I'm not here to ruin your marriage.” Although she had a smile on, I didn't want to believe her words.
“I'm not sure if I should trust you.”
“You should, do you seriously want to ruin a friendship of fifteen years so quickly.”
That hit me as a surprise.
Fifteen years?! What?!
They've known each other that long? How come Don never mentioned something like this?
“I'm serious when I say I don't want to come as a rift between you and Eri. I came back just to be friends again.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
Don squinted his eyes as though trying to see through her if she was lying or not.
Even I wanted to know that.
For some reason, I couldn't find myself believing her so quickly,
“Well, that's okay. Where were you all this while?” He sounded uninterested but obliged to ask.
Her smile only gave me an uneasy feeling. “Well, after I left our wedding because you wouldn't return the love I had for you, I ran away with Jenny, my personal maid, to Dubai where I stayed all this while to get my composure.”
“So if you're correct, you no longer have feelings for me?” He also didn't seem like he wanted to believe her.
She nodded. “Those months away from you and seeing you with her,” the ‘her’ came out with not so much likeness, more like jealousy, only making me more uneasy, “I realized I can no longer have you so I'm just going to move on and I want us to be friends again.”
“It's good you finally came to your senses.” He still maintained the stern expression.
She turned to me. “Eri, you know, I was so surprised to find out you two got married, it must've been nice for you.”
I just replied with a feigned smile since there didn't seem to be anything better to do.
“You know, Don and I had been friends for a long time and you seem to be a good girl, maybe we can be friends too.”
“Friends?” I doubt if this girl would actually want to be friends with me for real.
Her presence was really discomforting.
“Yes, maybe we can go out and talk and just have fun. You do look like a pretty nice person to be with.” She walked towards me, placing a hand on mine which only left me in confusion.
Don seemed to have noticed my discomfort.
“June—” he was interrupted by the ringing of his phone in his pocket.
He retrieved the phone, answering the call and placing it close to his ear.
“Hello.” There was silence as he listened to whoever was on the other line, “that is why I expect you guys to use your brains,” silence, “gosh, how would you guys do anything without me.”
His brows furrowed before hanging up, then turned from June to me.
“Eri, they need me at work, I have to go, okay?” He leaned closer to plant a peck on my cheek.
“June, it's nice you're back to your senses, hopefully it stays that way. Bye.”
“Bye.” She waved.
We both stared at him as he sauntered out of the room, not saying a word.
As soon as he was out of sight, she pulled me by my arm, dragging me closer to her.
Her obviously fake smile had dropped to a deep frown that showed anger, jealousy and possessiveness.
“Hey listen Eri, Don's mine and mine alone.” Her tone was laced with fury.
Seriously? I knew this was what it'd turn out to and I have no time for drama.
I pulled apart from her. “Listen, I don't have time for your drama, I knew things were going to have this turn.”
“You should trust me when I tell you to leave this marriage on your own will before I force you to.” Her eyes were blazing in anger.
“June, I think you should actually go with your words and just accept your fate that you can never get Don.”
“I promise I won't let you enjoy this marriage, if I'd gotten married to Don he'd have fallen in love with me but you stopped that from happening.”
Her drama was giving me a headache. “Listen, I don't care about whatever you have to say, I just can't keep on talking to you else I might end up sick.”
She grabbed the collar of my dress, infuriating me. “Just back out now.”
It was obvious she was still acting childish, and talking to her would mean I was stooping lower.
So I planned on just ending things with, “I want you to know this, Don and I will stay together forever so just move on, okay?”
I pushed her hands off me. “And let this be the last time you come to my matrimonial home.”
Pivoting, I pranced further away from her. “I think you should leave now because your presence only gives me a headache.”
“Eri, trust me and back out.” She warned through gritted teeth while I just left her standing there.
I really hoped this girl would heed to my advice and leave me alone. I really don't want anyone to ruin my marriage with Don.
I'd make sure she doesn't do that, although she did sound determined.
