-Don Jones-
“I'm only letting you go to work today because your temperature isn't as hot as it was before.” Eri's arms were folded over her chest.
Because yeah, it had taken a lot of convincing before she finally let me go to work.
But don't get me wrong, I loved how she cared for me so much.
It was obvious she'd make a great mother.
“I can't follow you today because Hane and I are going shopping for her sister's wedding.” She continued, while a smile stayed plastered on my lips.
“You must come back early, okay? By five p.m, you must've gotten home, is that clear?”
“Yes mom.” I joked, earning a raised brow from her where she stood beside the center table of our room.
Her hands dropped to her hips. “Mom?”
“Well, you do sound like a mom.” Winking at her, I put on the Rolex watch.
“Well thank you for what you consider my care to be.” She didn't hide the sarcasm in her tone, not like she wanted to.
“I'm just saying,” I moved towards her, “you'd be a great mom.”
Her expression softened at my words, and a distant look took form on her features.
“Mom.” She repeated, not looking like she realized it was said out loud.
“You're already acting like one so I'm certain you'd be perfect in that line.”
Her expression changed to something I couldn't quite grasp.
“You don't want to have children?” That seemed like the only explanation to the look on her face.
Which reminded me that we actually hadn't ever had such a conversation.
Maybe because I just assumed, like most females, she'd want a child.
Her gaze travelled to anywhere but me. “I do.” But the words weren't convincing enough.
Seriously?
I really wanted to have children, because the thought of tiny little kids running around and playing everywhere was one that brought smile to my face.
Now, it seemed like she was saying she didn't want that.
“But—?”
She sighed, shaking her head. “I'm just scared.”
Oh
I might not be a female, but that was something most of them felt about birth, right?
Most females are scared of having children.
All I had to do was let her know why she shouldn't be scared.
So, leaning closer, I pulled her in an embrace. “Is there a specific reason?”
“I love children, but then having little ones that'd depend on me feels like a whole lot of responsibility.” That was understandable.
I tightened the hug. “You’ll do great, trust me.”
“But what if I don't.”
“You will, you don't just realize it now, but when you have them, the love will be automatic. Trust me.”
All she did was sigh.
That was so strange, because on a normal day, it wasn't like she did much to make it fun.
Maybe just knowing she was close was enough to make me relaxed and excited.
The meeting on the trillion dollar mission didn't seem to be taking us anywhere, but I was going to ensure the company became one before I handed it to my child.
Hopefully it doesn't take that long.
I couldn't imagine seeing myself overworking for over twenty years because of something like that.
Eri would kill me.
My office door swung open, surprising me a little, because no one dared enter with my permission.
And this frown on my face deepened when June and her personal maid came to view.
She was dressed in a wine mid thigh length gown that hugged her curves, topped with wine heels.
Whoever did her hair was good enough to make her look like those wealthy people in movies.
That wasn't what I cared about, because as she strutted in with the maid, I figured her presence annoyed the heck out of me.
Especially with that obviously feigned smile planted on her lips.
“What are you doing here?” The sterness in my tone came more than intended, but that was good.
Hopefully it'd let her know her place.
She invited herself to the seat opposite mine, separated by the table but her maid just stood beside her.
“Can't I come visit my best friend?”
The words made me cringe. “Get out.”
“Listen,” she stared at my angry face, “I love you a lot.”
The sound of those three words further irritated me.
I'd heard it far too many times from her and it didn't help in making me feel the same way.
Today had to be the end of all this drama.
Best to do it with a little calmness.
Forcing my gaze to soften, I leaned back on the chair. “June, I don't think there's need for me to remind you that I'm married.”
A crease tugged at her brows, as she clenched her fist, speaking through gritted teeth. “It's just got two years, and you'll be free from her.”
“I don't know how you know about the contract, but you should also know that it is something of the past.”
She huffed. “Meaning?”
“Meaning, this time it's a lifetime thing. I'm in love with her already.”
Her chest began rising and falling at a fast pace.
To my surprise, her face had turned red, so was her eyes. “Lifetime thing?”
She slammed both hands on the desk and although I wasn't expecting her reaction to be like that, I didn't flinch.
“I've loved you for five fucking years and you're telling me you're leaving me for some girl you've known for a year or so.”
My brows pulled together at the unexpected scene she was causing. “You need to get a grip of yourself. Move on with your life and go get someone else that'd love you.”
The words didn't seem to be getting to her, as she stood up, stomped round the table in such a way she almost tripped, but steadied herself enough to grab me by the collar, forcing my gaze to meet her, though her strength was second to none.
I would have knocked her off if she wasn't a female. “What the fuck do you think you doing?!”
“What?” Tears trembled on the brink of her lashes. “I've loved you all my life Don. How can you just tell me to forget about you.”
Irritation crawled at my skin, as I turned to her personal maid. “Get her off me before I call security.”
The girl scurried towards June, holding her hands. “Please Miss June, let's get going.”
Surprisingly, like there was magic in her words, June let go of me, turning to the maid with a sweet, innocent smile. “Just give me a minute more. Please.”
Then she turned back to me, the smile vanishing into thin air. “I promise you this, I will get you to love me and leave that thing you call a wife.”
What?!
How dare she call Eri a thing.
Oh, no way was I going to sit and watch all her drama any more.
“You have ten seconds to leave my office, else you'll be dragged out of this place with the help of security.”
“Jenny, let's go.” She turned to the maid I now knew to be Jenny and they both left the office.
What on earth was her problem?!
She had better get a grip of herself before doing anything that might ruin her.
Worse, ruin me and my marriage.
