37. Chapter Thirty-Five
CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
BETSY
S everal days have passed since the incident at the corner store. Daddy hasn't left Betsy's side since then. Well, she hadn't left his. Truth be told, Betsy was still worried and freaked out about everything.
They had been watching her. They knew she was going out.
Did they have eyes on her now? Were they waiting until Daddy left so they could take her?
She didn't know and she honestly didn't want to find out.
Betsy looked at Mikey. "Do you think they are going to get me?" she whispered.
Daddy was currently working in his office, trying to figure out who was after her. They had gotten the security footage and he was going through it.
Daddy also got some other security footage from other places to find out any other information. Has he? She didn't know and she wanted to ask but knew she shouldn't.
He didn't want her to worry about it, but it was hard when her life was on the line. She was trying to be brave and not let it affect her, but it was.
It really was.
She had woken up from a nightmare last night, sweaty and crying. Daddy held her for hours as she calmed down, but she didn't want to go back to sleep. Not when she could see the gun pointed at her.
She could have died.
"Mikey, I could have lost you," she whispered. "You could have lost me. What would you have done without me?"
Mikey just looked at her. Yeah, she wasn't getting any responses out of him this time.
"Do you think Daddy will tell me if he has found anything?"
She waited for a response.
"I didn't think so either. He doesn't want me to worry, but does he know by not telling me anything that I am worrying more?"
That was how it worked. Did Daddy not know this?
She waited for a response, but none came.
"You really aren't going to answer me? You were a week ago," she grumbled. "Fine. It's okay. I don't need you to respond to me. I can figure it out on my own."
They stared at each other for several seconds.
"But I do need you with me when I still do things that are a little scary. I don't care if you respond or not, but you help me get through things."
Sighing, she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. She was not going to be doing things out of her comfort zone right now. No way. Especially not when there was someone after her, who could possibly be watching her right now.
Daddy told her that no one followed them and he checked to make sure there were no trackers. He also said no one but three people knew he bought this house and it wasn't even under his name.
She was safe but it didn't feel like it sometimes.
In Daddy's arms she always felt safe but when she was away from him, that safety went away. She could feel people looking at her even though no one else was in the house.
Betsy’s phone rang, an unknown number flashed across the screen. Could it be the guy who was after her? Should she pick it up?
Taking a deep breath, she picked up the phone, answering the call.
“I heard you finally found a Daddy, Kirk Hansen,” a male spoke through the phone. “Another hacker. Do you have a thing for hackers? Or did he catch you?”
Her breath got caught in her lungs. How did he know? There was no trace that Daddy had caught her.
“Jonathan? Dimitri?” she whispered, not believing what she was hearing.
“I heard Sabastian told you my real name.”
“Don’t get him in trouble. He didn’t mean to.”
“B, I’m not going to hurt him. I would never hurt you or Sabastian.”
She let out a sigh of relief.
“What did you do for Kirk Hansen to catch you?”
She knew Dimitri was not going to like her explanation. Not one bit.
“B. No lying. I can hear the gears turning in your head.”
Sighing, she closed her eyes and rubbed her temples.
“It’s not like you don’t already know,” she mumbled.
“I do, but I want to hear it from your lips.”
“I hacked into Bonnie Ricci’s website and might have moved a couple of things. It was harmless and he hacked into my computer and found out information.”
Silence filled the line.
“B.”
“I know, I know.”
“I always told you to look into the people.”
“I don’t need you telling me. I already got a lecture from Daddy.”
“Good, he should give you another one.”
“No, I don’t think he should. He’s already placed rules in the way if I get back into hacking.”
“If you get back into hacking?”
“Yeah, if. I don’t know if I am going to return after this. Someone is after me. Crap. I didn’t mean to tell you. Well, you probably already know.”
Dimitri knew everything, just like Daddy.
“That’s actually why I called,” Dimitri said.
“Not because you wanted to talk to me?” Betsy teased. “It’s okay. Sabastian said something about you not being in a good place to call or do anything really.”
She could hear him sigh over the phone. She didn’t like that he wasn’t in a good situation. What had he done to get there?
“He is correct and I still am not. I just needed to call you so I could give you some information. I can’t do anything because of the situation I am in. If I even attempted to, the people would know where I am and I can’t have that.”
“Are you safe?” she whispered.
Silence.
“Please, tell me you are safe. You are family to me.” She pleaded at the first part.
“B.”
She sucked in a breath.
“I can’t lie and say I’m safe. I can’t do that to you, but I’m trying to get safe. Just need to work on a couple of things and take out several people.”
“But you don’t kill people.”
While he had kept his identity a secret, they had been honest about a lot of other things. Dimitri had told her he had never taken a life and didn’t want to.
“That’s changed. I had to change.”
“You’ve been in this bad situation since you left out of the blue?”
She needed to know.
“I was starting to. I knew once I did it that they would be looking into my life. I couldn’t put you or Sabastian at risk so I left.”
“But you are still in contact with Sabastian.”
Did it hurt? Absolutely.
“I am because he could handle his life getting a little rough. I know you could have to, but I didn’t want to. I didn’t want you to be on the run in case things got bad. I didn’t want anything to happen to you.”
Betsy didn’t know what to say. She had been really sad when he left.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered. “I forgive you.”
“Thank you, B. Maybe when this is all over I can come over some time and meet your Daddy.”
“I would like that.”
She had talked about him a couple times to Daddy.
“I told him about you,” she said.
“Tell him how madly in love you are with me?”
Betsy giggled. “No. I told him how you helped me and how you are family. Needed to reassure him that nothing was going on between us.”
“You shouldn’t have. It would have been fun to play a prank on him.”
“I didn’t want to get my bottom spanked. That wouldn’t be a very fun prank. I could have lost my Daddy.”
“Right. Sorry. Maybe we’ll have to pull a prank on him whenever I come to visit.”
“Will you ever come visit?”
Dimitri sighed. “I’ll try my hardest.”
Tears pooled in her eyes. She didn’t want to think about him dying.
“Do you have a pen and paper or is your Daddy around?” Dimitri asked.
“Give me a second.”
Betsy got up from her seat and made her way into Daddy’s office.
“Yes, baby?”
“Dimitri is on the phone.”
His eyes went wide. “Dimitri as in Jonathan Dimitri? Your Dimitri?”
She nodded.
“I like the sound of that. Your Dimitri,” he said through the phone.
She rolled her eyes and put him on speaker.
“You’re on speaker and Daddy is right in front of me.”
“Hello Kirk Hansen,” Dimitri’s voice filled the room.
It was like he was there in person with how loud it was.
“Dimitri.”
“No hello back? Though, I can expect that after you called me her Dimitri,” he teased.
“Dimitri, stop,” she snapped. “Not okay.”
“Sorry, B.”
She sighed and closed her eyes. This was not how she thought they would meet. This was not how she wanted them to meet.
“I have information on who is going after Betsy,”
“How do you know?” Daddy asked. “How do you know it’s him?”
“I can’t tell you how, but I can tell you who it is. Do you want to know?” Dimitri asked.
“Of course I do!” Daddy barked.
“Can you tell us, please?” she asked.
She just wanted it to be over.
“It’s Arden Jones.”
“Fuck,” Daddy whispered. “Are you sure?”
“Dead sure. Little B here released some scandalous photos of him. You did an amazing job at hiding it was you. I had to do a lot of digging which meant he had to as well.”
“Arden Jones? Arden Jones who also runs with Luigi?”
“Yep, that Arden Jones. Nasty bugger.”
She had no idea who this Arden Jones was or how bad he was.
“Thank you,” Daddy said.
“No problem. Keep your phone on you, B. And Kirk?”
“Yes?”
“Put a fucking chip on her somewhere. I can’t care where. Put it on every shirt and shoes. Well, probably be better to inject it in her in case they take off her clothes and jewelry.”
Her eyes went wide and the air in her lungs left. They were going to take her.
“Dimitri,” Daddy growled.
“Shit, sorry B. They aren’t going to take you. Your Daddy won’t allow it. I promise. He is going to keep you safe.”
Then why would he suggest it?
“B, please don’t panic. I promise I didn't mean anything by it. You aren’t going to get kidnapped, I promise.”
Daddy grabbed hold of her hand and gave it a squeeze.
"You're okay," he whispered. "Everything is going to be okay. You won't leave my sight when we walk outside. Promise."
Betsy took a deep breath and nodded.
"Sorry, D."
"I like that. D as a nickname. B and D," Dimitri chuckled.
"Bad Daddy?" she suggested. "That could be your new nickname whenever you get a Little. BD and it can stand for Bad Daddy."
"Not happening, brat," he growled.
"Do you have any other information or just the name?" Daddy asked.
Betsy really needed to remember to talk to Daddy after they finished the call. Dimitri was just a friend, a brother and nothing else. They were just close and could tease each other.
"Just a name. Took me a while to figure out it was him, but now you can do with that information what you please. I know you are looking at his partner, Luigi. Take both of them out at the same time," Dimitri suggested. "Use Ethan and his men if you have to. I know his sister is with Rogan."
"Shit," Daddy mumbled.
Dimitri knew everything and when he didn't, he made sure to do research to know things.
"Yeah, I know everything about you, Ricci Crime Family, and the Montgomery Syndicate. be smart about things."
Daddy stared at her phone.
"Thank you D for telling us the name. Don't be a stranger!" Betsy raised her voice.
"I don't know when the next time I'll call you and it probably won't be under this number. Just keep an eye out."
"Thanks again. Stay safe and don't do anything dumb."
Dimitri hung up and she looked at Daddy. She couldn't read his reaction. Was he angry, happy, sad, worried?
"Daddy?" she tentatively said.
"Yes, baby?"
"Are you okay?"
He looked at her. "I am. Just a little worried. You've got a powerful friend right there. Knowing everything about us and the Montgomery syndicate. Are you sure he is your friend?"
She nodded. "He's like a brother to me. I promise. There is nothing else going on between us. I love you and only you. There is no one else for me."
Daddy opened his arms and she rushed into them.
"I know, baby. I'm just always worried about your safety. But if you trust him, then I trust you."
"I trust him. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me. He has kept me safe or did whenever we first met. I have no doubt that if he was to be here in person, he would still protect me but I promise there is nothing between us."
Betsy needed to make it clear so he knew. She didn't want him to think she would cheat on him.
"Betsy, I promise I don't think you like him like that. I believe you when you say you only see him as a brother. Promise."
Her shoulders dropped and she snuggled into his embrace. She was relieved to hear that.
"I love you," she whispered. "I love you so much. I want you to know that. Even though we didn't meet in the best way, I'm glad I hacked into Bonnie's website. I'm glad I did because if I didn't, I wouldn't have met you."
Daddy pulled back and kissed her lips. "I'm glad as well and I love you too."
"Make love to me," she blurted out.
