36. Chapter Thirty-Four
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
KRIK
E ver so slowly Betsy relaxed in my arms, falling asleep.
“She asleep?” Angelo asked.
Kirk nodded. He was worried about her. So many things were getting thrown at her and he just wanted her safe.
“First things first. You got her dad?” Rogan asked.
“Yes, we did. Taj and Lino are putting him in the basement as we speak,” Kirk replied.
He couldn’t wait to get his hands on her dad. To torture him slowly. His fingers were itching to get to him. But he needed to wait. Betsy needed him right now and her dad could wait.
“You taking a couple days to be with her before you go to him?” Angelo asked.
Kirk nodded. “Lino and Taj will rough him up a tad bit. Deprive him of food, water, and light. Make the torture even more fun.”
“If you need any help, let me know. I can patch him up or show you where to cut or do whatever without fatally hurting him.”
“Thanks Angelo, I appreciate it.”
It was going to come in handy. He didn’t want her dad to die on the first day, he needed it to last several days, maybe even a week. Kirk needed to get back at him for what he did to her.
“I bet Miles will gladly look after her and Bonnie while you do it. They could have a sleepover during the whole weekend and you can do it at night. Or we can have someone sit with her for the night while you do it. Up to you,” Rogan suggested.
“Thanks. I’ll see how she is feeling in a couple of days. But it will probably be while she is sleeping at night. An hour after she falls asleep since she likes to sleep in my arms.”
It was going to get complicated, but he needed to do it. He needed to do something.
“We don’t know who it is yet,” Rogan said, sitting down. “We got the security footage for in the store and out, but they wore masks the whole time.”
“Did you get what car they drove?” Kirk asked.
“We did, but like you know, it’s probably stolen, or it’s a rental.”
Sighing, he nodded. It was very likely that it was the case, but he could hope. They needed to get to the bottom of this soon. He didn’t like knowing Betsy was in danger all the time.
“She followed Dane’s commands to a t whenever they were in the store,” Angelo turned off the TV.
“She did. Huddled and stayed behind me the whole time.”
“Good.”
But Kirk wasn’t worried about that. She had been good about following orders when it mattered.
“I’m going to take her home and start to look into the footage. I’m assuming you’ve already sent it to me,” Kirk said, carefully standing up.
Rogan nodded. “Yes and I can get you the original files as well.”
“That’s okay. Whatever you sent should be fine.”
“Do you need help with anything?” Angelo asked.
“I don’t think so. Maybe opening the doors, but that should be it.”
“Don’t forget the cheese,” Dane stood up.
“Cheese?”
“Yes, we went to the store for cheese so I made sure to buy some before we left. Betsy wanted cheese and we weren’t going to go home empty handed.”
Kirk smiled. “Can you put it in a bag?”
Dane nodded and walked off. Kirk had no idea Betsy loved cheese as much as she does.
“Take some time with her first,” Angelo said. “For both of you. The tapes are going to be there tomorrow.”
Kirk knew that but he also knew every second he waited to look at them, he could possibly be letting the person threatening her get away. He was just going to have to work while she was asleep or didn’t need him.
“I know,” Kirk replied.
“Here it is!” Dane walked back in with a huge bag.
“Shit,” Kirk mumbled as she stared at the bag. “How much cheese did you buy?”
“All of the pepper jacks that were in the store. She said she liked it so I got it for her.”
“Next time get just a couple,” Angelo suggested.
“Why? She said she liked pepper jack cheese so I bought all of them. Now she can eat it whenever she wants.”
Sometimes Kirk didn’t know if Dane didn’t understand or if he just didn’t want to.
“Thank you for buying it for her,” Kirk said. “I know she’ll be happy when she sees them.”
Did he even have enough space in his fridge? He was going to have to fit it all in the fridge. Maybe he could freeze some of it.
“You can give me the cheese and I’ll put it in the car for them,” Angelo held his hand out.
Dane handed the cheese over and they made their way to his car. He just wanted to get into bed and hold her until she woke up.
“Are you sure you want to go back to your apartment?” Angelo asked as he put the cheese in the backseat.
“We’re going to my house. The one I bought two years ago,” Kirk gently put Betsy in the passenger side.
“Here’s her pacifier.”
He grabbed it and gently teased her lips and plopping it in when she opened it.
“I’ve got everything at the house that I need and Betsy will be comfortable. The house isn’t under my name but an alias so they shouldn’t be able to find the location. I’ll make sure we aren’t followed whenever I do leave.”
Kirk had bought the house as a safe place to go whenever he needed it. Which was never, but now he was glad he bought it.
“Let us know if you need anything and we mean anything. She had stolen all of our hearts. Dane would do anything for her,” Angelo said.
Dane had never taken an interest in any girl before. Kirk wasn’t worried Dane would take her from him. Dane wasn’t like that and the way he was acting around her while he was there, there was nothing sexual about it.
“Thanks, I will.”
“Stay safe. Any trouble, call us.”
Kirk nodded and got into his car. Time to go home.
