Chapter 34
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR
Dear Baby,
Won’t be long before I get to call you by your actual name! I have a few ideas, but I’m going to wait until I know whether you’re a boy or a girl, and wait till I see you so I can get a feeling for which name suits you. Whatever it is, I hope you like the name I choose. Don’t worry, it won’t be something horrendously embarrassing when you’re at school!
I wanted to write today to say how excited I am that your room is all set up. It took us a few weeks to get everything, put things together, repaint, and decorate. But it looks beautiful. We’ve also revamped my room, as that’s where you’ll be for the first six months or so. I want to have you close by me as you sleep so I can keep an eye on you. I hope I don’t snore and wake you up!
Here at South Haven, there’s a wonderful garden to play in. Someone very clever helped to create it, and I know you’re going to love exploring, running around, and maybe setting up little farm animal figurines in the dirt like I did as a kid. Only it’s mostly grass now. It’s become like a magical wonderland, with trees, colourful flowers, pebbles and fairies, birds and butterflies, and places to sit to relax in the great outdoors. The only thing missing is a pool! Maybe I can persuade Grandma Martha to add one, though there’s not much space left. One day we might move into our own place, but for now, South Haven will be our home, as it has always been mine, even when I lived somewhere else for a while.
I’m going to start taking things a bit easier now, to rest my body in preparation for your birth. I’ve been doing special exercises and meditations. It’s like training for a marathon! I’ve been told motherhood is a bit like one. But in this one, I’ll be a winner without fail.
I’m also starting to think about my future career plans, to earn income and look after us for a long time. Your grandma and I are going to create a beauty salon at South Haven where I can work part time when you’re a bit older. That way I won’t be far away and I can see you on my lunch break! Grandma thinks I should call it Beauty Haven, but I have another idea. I’m not telling anyone though until I’m ready to put the sign up.
Life is always such an adventure, and I want you to know that you can always start afresh anytime you want to. Don’t be afraid to take a risk and follow your heart to what feels right. I have, and it led me back home. Family is so important, and I’m so glad you are going to become part of it.
Love, Mum xo
