Chapter 9
I got votes so someone is obviously reading my story. Yay! I thank you a whole bunch. Also this is the last chapter before V comes and takes Cassie away...wonder what will happen? Anyways...the story.

I sat behind my desk grinding my teeth together in irritation. I’m so tired of having to do all this damn paper work. People think that the bigger the pack, the better. To hell with that. I barely get time to fight and train.
Brett is already overwhelmed at the moment too, and I don’t trust anyone else to do the job either. I growled when I heard a knock on my door. I don’t need any distractions now.
“Sorry sir. I just came to give you an update.” My mood quickly lifted up with that sentence. I got to hear about how my mate was doing. It had been a while since I’ve heard an update. “In.”
Avery quickly walked into my office bowing his head. After he was upright again he closed the distance to my desk and placed his hands behind his back and stood feet shoulder width apart. Avery was a good solider.
“So what’s the news?” A small smile played on his face. This could only mean that I would like the update.
“Well sir, she got permission to train a warrior recruit.” I raised an eyebrow in thought before those thoughts were cut off by Avery again. “She chose a woman, but the best part is she’s training her our way.”
I stilled instantly. How did she know about the old ways? She was an American wolf. Avery just stood there uneasy as I thought about things.
“How is she training her the old way in sunny California?” I turned my gaze from my work on my desk straight to Avery. I watch as fear flicked through his eyes before he quickly hid it away.
“She started with running, wolf and human form. Then she made her train with trees like we used to but since California’s climate and terrain is different from ours she had to…adapt.” I know that my expression turned darker since Avery looked down at his feet quickly.
“Adapt how?” He cleared his throat lowly, to ready his voice to speak again. “She trains by the ocean at night, making her soak herself to feel the cold, then she trains in the desert by day when it’s scorching hot. She thinks the more elements she can withstand-“
“The better wolf she will be.” So my mate is innovative in a good way. I felt warmth course through me as my wolf showed his approval as well. But she’s young. I quickly cut off my wolf and focused back on Avery.
“Help her. Now leave. I have work to do.” Avery nodded as he quickly exited my office.
“Never cross your feet. That’s just asking for trouble.” Alexandra huffed as she threw down her dragon pole. I looked down at the pole before looking back at a disheveled Alexandra.
“Why do I have to stay in my human form?! I’m a wolf. I should-“
“What if you can’t shift? You’ll be a sitting duck. Nothing is more beneficial to you or your survival than being able to take on a wolf in your human form. Now stop bitching and pick up the pole.” I watched her intently as she picked up the dragon pole once again to continue practicing.
I know the last couple of months have been a pain for her.
It always sucks in the beginning. First month was nothing but cardio.
I made her race in her human and wolf form.
While a human she raced me, since I had to do the same thing in the mountains of Hungary, I was quite the opponent.
As for wolf form, well I got a little help from Nick with that.
She always asked why I had Nick race her instead of racing myself and the truth was I hadn’t shifted yet. I don’t know why and I haven’t told anyone to ask either. I’m sure it will happen sooner or later.
The two months that followed after cardio was all about strength and pain tolerance. Strength wasn’t that bad since she was in great shape already, I just had to up the ante some. Pain tolerance was a different story. She had never been in a fight!
The reason that is a problem is because fighting isn’t pretty if you’re winning or losing. You still get busted up. To simulate the effects of punching a werewolf’s face in, I made her punch at a tree for hours on end.
When she asked why I made her do it, I told her the truth. The only difference between that tree and an opponent is that the tree doesn’t move, and your opponent doesn’t give you splinters.
Now for month four we are working on her fighting in human form which is obviously what I’m best at. I’m worried about who will train her when she does get to the point where she trains in wolf form.
“Cassie. I hope you don’t train her as a human all day. That’s pretty sad.”
“Yeah, yeah. Just keep a muzzle on your dog and don’t worry about mine.”
I cut off the mindlink because I didn’t want to deal with Leo at the moment. He was like my dad’s favorite at the moment for his choice of a recruit. Just goes to show my dad has no idea of what we need.
“When will I get to train in wolf form?” I just smirked as I watch Alexandra keep training.
“Next month. I’m trying to figure out who will train you.” She stopped abruptly and looked at me confused. “Why aren’t you going to train me?”
“I just hit puberty. I’m not even fully trained, so how am I supposed to train you?” Glad I came up with that. It wasn’t a lie and it didn’t reveal my problem.
She nodded in acknowledgement. I’m pretty sure she forgets I’m 15 very frequently. After I took her as my recruit I found out that she just turned 18 which made her an even better recruit. She was clay for me to mold.
She lived with her mother since her dad was from a different pack. They had all lived together with his pack, the Steel Paw Pack, until he became abusive causing her mother to come back here. I still can’t get over how stupid that pack name is. Like ours is bad, but Steel Paw, really?
“Are the rumors true?” Looking at Alexandra, she refused to look back at me.
“What rumors?” I tried to keep my voice calm but I know I failed miserably. Alexandra rubbed her neck like she was trying to get the courage to keep going. “You know…about how the alpha from the Night Stal-“ A growled erupted from my throat making Alexandra stop instantly.
“Where did you hear that?!” I know I was snapping on Alexandra but I honestly didn’t care at the moment. No one was supposed to know about me and V. Not until I left.
“Everyone at the pack house is talking about it. Saying that you’re leaving in a few months, that you’re the alpha’s mate, is it true?” She said it all rushed and in a panic. Hearing her like that made me close my eyes to try and regain my composure.
“Since I see you as a friend I guess I can tell you. It’s true. He claims I’m his mate and my dad’s just letting him take me. Even had my mom gave me ‘the talk.” I watched as Alexandra’s eyes went wide. “You met him!”
This Alexandra was different from the one I usually saw. This one acted like a school girl eager to hear the new gossip.
“Is he as hot and dangerous as everyone says he is?” She was looking at me expectantly as she waited for my answer. I only sighed before I caved and sat down next to her on the steps.
“Hot, no. Dangerous, absolutely. I’m pretty sure that word is in the English dictionary because of him.” She flicked my forehead and I glared at her. “Don’t lie. You think he’s hot.”
I rolled my eyes. The last thing I thought about V was that he was hot. I could see how most girls would probably find him attractive but not me.
“I’m serious. He looked at me with his eyes.
His eyes are white as snow, just one more way to show his coldness.
One look and I felt a cold shiver of fear run down my back.
When he threw me over his shoulder, I felt the raw power he possessed.
I’m telling you now, he doesn’t own a third of the US from his good looks.
” After I finished I just groaned as I got up from the step.
Alexandra literally looked like she was in love. How on earth could anyone find someone that cold and heartless attractive?
“Does he have a brother?” I kicked her on her thigh making her jump up and rub the spot.
“Get back to work.” She groaned but walked back over to her spot and started training again.
Maybe I could ask Mr. Avery to train her. If he was ever a part of V’s pack, then I know he’ll know how to fight.
