Chapter 15

I kept tossing and turning on the bed. The blanket long gone and pillows slung every which way. I finally sat up in defeat before trekking into the ghostly silent hallway. I could see perfectly fine without a light, which I couldn’t do before.

Following the scent of V, I found his room a floor above mine. I didn’t want to knock and wake him but I also didn’t want to freak him out either.

Throwing caution to the wind, I opened the door and walked into the dark room. V was lying on his side of the bed with his arm covering his eyes. “What are you doing here?” I sucked in a breath of air upon hearing his voice.

Of course he was up. I slowly walked over to my side of the bed before climbing in. “Cassie.” I still didn’t answer him.

He turned onto his side so he was facing me. I mimicked him until we were looking at each other. “You’re in my bed.”

I smirked before I shook my head at him. “No. I’m in our bed.” I watched as a smirk played on his lips before he quickly turned the other way. “It’s my bed but I’ll share with you tonight.”

I rolled my eyes as I got comfortable in the bed. What a jerk.

I woke up when I felt the bed shift. I quickly shot up and looked over in time to see V close the door to the room. I jumped up and followed after him to see what was wrong.

In the living room was the most wolves I’ve seen since I’ve been in V’s territory. V was standing in the middle completely pissed off before he turned to me.

“You shouldn’t be here.” He bit out at me.

God he was so bipolar. Either we got along or he shut me out. There is no in between.

“What’s going on?” I asked crossing my arms to show I wasn’t budging until I got an answer.

I felt as something was placed on my shoulder before I turned to see Brett. He smiled at me as I put on the jacket he had put on me. So that’s why V wanted me out of the room. “Covered. Now talk.”

He rolled his eyes but walked over towards me. “We have a rogue. Only question now is who will interrogate her.”

“Her?” I said completely shocked. Female rogues were rare, alone they were even rarer. “You think there might be others?” Instead of answering me, he gave a quick bob of his head.

He started to follow one of his men out of the room, so I quickly ran after him grabbing his hand. He looked down at me, confused, before he tightened his grip on my hand and lead me along.

We walked down a set of stairs to what I assumed was the basement before we stopped in front of a cell and my eyes went wide in shock, confusion, and worry.

“Alexandra! Oh my God, are you okay?” I couldn’t stop yelling.

I quickly dropped V’s hand and ran to the bars to get a better look at her. She was beaten, but not too bad. She also seemed to be exhausted.

“What happened to her?” I wasn’t questioning anyone in particular but I did expect an answer.

“We found her in the territory and tried to question her as to her pack and reason for coming, instead she ran. We had to assume she was on our territory without permission and had to detain her for further investigation.” I gripped the bars tighter as the unfamiliar voice continued talking.

“Cassie. How do you know her?” V’s voice was soothing at the moment.

I took a deep breath before I turned around to face him. “She’s my warrior.”

He nodded his head before he looked at one of his men. They quickly went over to the cell and unlocked it.

V walked over to me before pulling me towards the exit. “Let’s get you out of here.”

“I can’t leave her.” I was panicked at the idea of us being separated with her in that condition.

“There is nothing you can do. You’ll only get in the way. They’re taking her to the doctors and they will do no harm to her. You have my word.” Sighing I just nodded before allowing V to pull me along.

“But I want to see her as soon as she wakes up.”

“Whatever you want.” He kissed me on the forehead and I relaxed.

“It explains why my men had such a hard time detaining her.” I smiled to myself as we continued to walk back into the living room of the house.

“I trained her to be tough.” V looked at me with confusion laced all over his features. “What?”

“How do you answer thoughts that aren’t said?” I bit my lip in worry. I was hearing his thoughts again. I quickly let go of his hand and looked at him.

“I don’t want you to think I’m weird.”

“Too late. Talk.”

I pouted but caved anyways. I wanted to let him know anyways. It didn’t feel right prying into his thoughts. I looked down at my feet as I started to explain what was going on. “I kinda can hear your thoughts when I touch your hands.”

I looked back at V to see him deep in thought. What was he thinking about? “How long?”

“It started after you marked me.” I cleared my throat as I started to blush. It’s not like anything actually happened between us to cause me to blush.

“Come with me.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the house and towards the woods. “Where are you taking me?” He didn’t answer but let go of my hand when we were surrounded by trees.

“What are we doing out here?” I wrapped my arms around myself as the cold gust of wind hit me.

“You’re synced with your wolf now. It’s how you can smell better and why your gift is stronger.” I tilted my head to look at him. He’s lost his mind. My gift?

“How you can hear me when you touch my hand. It will be the same with other people as well. With practice you’ll be able to control it as well. Now, it’s time for you to shift.”

He wanted me to shift? Here and now? Was he crazy? I don’t know how to do it. Does it just happen automatically, like you will it and it happens or what?

“You’re the worst wolf ever, you know that?” If he didn’t have a joking tone, I would be hurt. Instead I was irritated. “Ha ha. I don’t know what I’m doing?”

He just huffed before he walked over to me and stood behind me. He grabbed my waist and pulled me back into his chest before he leaned down to whisper into my ear.

“You have to let go. Let your wolf course through you and put your thoughts, opinions, and thinking to the back. Run on your instincts.”

“Like fighting?” I interrupted a little too chipper.

I felt as he nodded his head beside mine. “Exactly like fighting. Now, try it.” He let go of my waist and took a few steps back.

I did what he said. I slowly took deep breathes and relaxed like my uncle Darrius taught me for training. He said let the fight come to you. I let out a yelp and my eyes shot opened when I heard an animal.

Scanning I spotted a gigantic full black wolf to my right. Before I could panic, I saw the familiar white eyes that usual struck fear in me. In this moment they caused relief to wash over me.

V walked over to me before he nudged me with his head. I looked down to see that I had actually done it. I shifted.

“Ready for a run?”

I looked over at V before I darted in no particular direction. I could feel as V followed behind me. It felt great to just run, zig zagging through the trees. I went to leap on a rock when V cut me off with a growl.

I whined back at him. Why was he growling at me? He’s the one who said to run.

“Go back to the house. Don’t ask questions. Just GO!” He gave off another growl before I turned back to go home.

What was going on? Why did he want me to go home suddenly? What I did know is that the way he was acting, I needed to go back. I wasn’t trained as a wolf and I wasn’t shifting to a human without clothes.

When I made it to the house I was relieved to see that no one was around, giving me the opportunity to go put on clothes without anyone seeing.

Now I had nothing to do but wait for V and see why he made me come back home.
