Chapter 16

Since I was confined to the house, I walked to Dr. Billing’s office to see how Alexandra was doing. As soon as I walked in the door I ran into someone knocking them over.

“Are you okay?” I asked worriedly as I tried to help them up.

When the boy laid his brown eyes on me, I thought they were going to come out. He pulled away and quickly got to his feet before he bowed down to me.

“I’m sorry Luna. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry. So sorry.” He spoke at a ridiculously high speed.

“Hey, it’s okay. I ran into you. What’s your name?” He slowly lifted his face until he was completely upright again. “Ted.”

I smiled as I held my hand out to him. “Cassie, nice to meet you Ted.” He smiled before he shook my hand.

“Isn’t he just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?” Ted's face turned a deep scarlet color as he quickly rushed passed me to get out the room.

I ran over to Alexandra’s bed and sat at the end by her feet before slapping her leg. “You scared him away. How are you doing?”

She just smiled as she leaned up from the bed. “Great. That doctor of yours really knows his stuff.”

“What are you doing here? Or better yet, what the hell happened?”

Alexandra just placed both her hands behind her head as she leaned against the headboard of the bed she was in. “I couldn’t stand being there anymore.”

“What do you mean?” I didn’t need another person to give me cryptic messages. V was enough for me.

“Home. I was tired of being treated like some poor female. I’m a damn warrior and I won the right to be. It wasn’t handed to me.” Alexandra’s nostrils kept flaring when she spoke since she was irritated.

“Tell me everything.” I leaned back onto my arms feeling like her story was going to be long. When she changed her position as well, I knew that I was right.

“It started after you left. They started to plan for the training in spring. Problem with that is I wasn’t on the list.” I wanted to say something but decided to just let her keep telling the story instead.

“I just brushed it off, thinking that they just didn’t put me down since I was the only female.

Whatever. However we had another rogue sighting and they started to form parties to search.

” I rolled my eyes thinking about how good they were at that.

“That’s when I knew they didn’t forget. I went to get placed in a search party and they told me to go home. This was a warrior’s job and I didn’t belong. I was so pissed. I knew the only person who would take me seriously was you, so I came here. But those warriors of yours-“

“They’re not mine.” I cut her off. She just shrugged before she continued. “Well whoever they belong to, they are damn good. Not to mention they just kept coming. How many warriors do you have?”

“In total or just in this district?” Alexandra started to cough from the air she sucked in at my question. “What do you mean district?” She managed to say between coughs.

“V’s territory is so big it had to be broken up into districts where he appoints leaders to overlook the daily tasks but report to us still. But in this district there are over 4,000 warriors. It’s the second most of any district and I have a feeling it’s because of me.”

“Why do you say that?” It was nice to see she was finally done with her mini attack. “The number of warriors doubled this month, the month I moved here.”

“Awww! The cold heartless alpha cares for his mate. Isn’t that romantic?” She clasped her hands together before leaning towards me, batting her eyelashes.

“Go away!” I yelled while pushing her off of me. We both laughed before she sighed deeply. “So what’s it like?”

“What?” I asked completely oblivious to what she wanted to know. “Oh come off it. You reek of that mate of yours.”

I started to sniff my clothes and couldn’t see what she was talking about. “It’s from your mark. You can’t smell it.” Of course I couldn’t.

“It hurt…a lot. It’s strange though. Every time he touches it, I become…I don’t even know what. I just get weak, I can’t breathe, and I crave his touch, like I don’t want him to leave. You understand?”

Alexandra just shook her head before lying back on the bed. “Nope. No idea. I haven’t found my mate yet. You’re so lucky.”

For once I actually wondered if Alexandra was right. Was I lucky that I found V? I took a deep breath and chills went down my spine. Was this man always going to have this effect on me?

“Cassie. We need to talk.”

I followed him to his office before he leaned against his desk with crossed arms. “Something’s come up and I need to go.”

I must have looked a little confused because he kept explaining. “That means me and Brett will be gone and I need you to run things while I’m gone.” I just stared at him blinking every now and then. “You trust me enough to leave me in charge?”

“I know it’s hard to believe but, I know for a fact that you might run away from me but not responsibility. If you trust Alexandra enough, you can have her help you as well.”

I just nodded my head while still thinking it over. “Okay I’ll do it.”

He was off the desk and right in front of me in an instant. He placed his hands on my face and I looked up at him. I felt anticipation course through my body and I reached to place my hands over his but he quickly pulled them away.

“Thanks.” With that he walked towards his office door. “You’re leaving now?”

“Right now.”

I followed after him, walking him to the door. I thought he would stop and tell me good bye but he didn’t. He just walked out the door.

I felt as my heart sank a little. I followed him outside. “V!” The moment he turned around, I grabbed his shirt by the collar and pulled him down to place his lips to mine.

He quickly picked me up before he suddenly pulled away and placed me back down. He shook his head before he just left to the car that was waiting for him.

I bit my lip as I tried to hold back my tears and went inside to where Alexandra was getting ready to move to her new room. “What’s wrong?” I shook my head quickly to hide the tears that had already sprung free.

Alexandra just came over and wrapped her arms around me. “Whatever it is. It’ll get better.”

“My mate doesn’t want to kiss me. How does that get better?” She pulled me away so that I was arm’s length away, with her hands still on my shoulders. “I thought you said that he was a not hot and dangerous alpha that you feared.”

I rolled my eyes as I pulled away from her grasp. That was what I thought about V, but not lately. Even now that I’m hurt about what happened, I want nothing more than for him to come back.

“Look, all joking aside. How old is he Cassie?” I shrugged my shoulders. It’s embarrassing to admit that I have no idea how old V is.

“Well I think it’s safe to assume he’s over 20, right?”

“I guess. What’s your point?” She just face palmed and shook her head at me. “You’re 15, remember? He probably feels like he’s stealing your innocence.”

“I thought that was only with mating me.” I threw my head back. This stupid mate thing is way too confusing for me. We were having a talk when he came back. That’s for sure.

There was a knock on the door before one of V’s warriors walked in. “Luna. Sorry to disturb you but there is a Nicholas Black.” Oh God why was he here. “It’s my brother.” The warrior just bowed to me before leaving the room again.

“You think he came to take me back? I’m not going!” I quickly hushed Alexandra. As I left the room. “No one is taking you anywhere. Now hurry up so you can play Beta.” She raised an eyebrow at me before she smirked. “Yes Alpha.”

It felt weird to be called Alpha, but I did like it.

“What are you doing here Nicky?” I crossed my arms as he walked up to the steps of the house.

When he didn’t answer me, I raised my eyebrow at him and held my stance. “Nicky.” Oh God. I picked up V’s habit of speaking impatiently.

"Look you were so upset. I had to come check on you.” I sighed and shook my head before I walked inside.

“How’d you know she was upset?” Alexandra still didn’t know that we could feel each other’s feelings. Neither of us answered her though. This caused her to look between the both of us.

“What happened?” I could feel his eyes burning a hole in my back since I refused to face him. “Over reacted. I’m fine.”

“You’re fine? Fine?! You have to be joking? You were so upset that I started crying!” By now I was looking right at Nick. He was red in the face and his chest was moving rapidly from his breathing.

I didn’t think about how my turbulent relationship affected Nick as much as it did me. I didn’t want him to know everything in my relationship, but I couldn’t keep him in the dark when he was involved.
