Chapter 18

I thank everyone for the love. I'm so excited to write now that I know I have an audience.

This chapter is a little weird but it's for a reason so don't think I've gone mad on my mini hiatus.

What character do you want to see more of in upcoming chapters?

I have a few people that I think need more story time :)

“We have the attack contained. Your warriors are the real deal.”

I just sighed as Nick mindlinked me. They aren’t my warriors. They were V’s. I also wanted to be in the fight, not stuck at home.

I whined even more to myself as I got up to go to the kitchen. Doing nothing seems to make me hungry for some weird reason.

When I stepped into the foyer something felt off, it felt wrong. I quickly turned to look around the room and saw nothing but my body still refused to move.

“Look at this pup here.”

My eyes darted to where the voice was coming from. Standing right by the back door was a much older wolf. He looked older than my dad.

You could clearly see the grey hair that scattered through his stringy red hair. The smirk he wore was sinister and showed all the wrinkle lines in his face. He wore all black, just like V.

“She is young, but very beautiful. It’s easy to see why he chose her.”

“Who are you?!” I growled. I hate when people talk about me when I’m standing right there.

The second man stepped from behind a pillar and stood next to the red head. “That isn’t important. You are coming with us.”

Over my dead body. I quickly looked over to the door before darting for it. I had barely made it out when I felt them right behind me.

I jumped off the stairs and turned around to face them. “You’re a brave little soul.”

“I’m not little.”

Both of the men started to circle around me. I knew it was a matter of time before they would shift. I needed to find something that will help me even the fight.

I heard a yelp from a wolf and quickly looked to see where it came from. I sighed with relief when I realized that Dante and his men didn’t go with Nick to the border.

“Enough games! Now!!”

Both of them shifted and I quickly stepped back to move when the red head, who shifted to a white wolf, lunged for me.

Come on, come on. I need something. Anything.

“Cassie!” Alexandra has perfect timing. She threw a pole to me and I quickly snatched it out the air before turning to face the two wolves again.

They snarled and I motioned for them to come towards me. The white wolf was the first to attack again and I swung the pole hitting him right across his muzzle.

I had to drop to my knees in a hurry to use the pole to flip the tan wolf who had jumped towards me. I heard a wolf whimper and I stopped suddenly.

Turning I saw a different wolf with a gash down his left hind leg. I was so distracted that I didn’t see the white wolf coming for me until he was tackled from a black wolf.

The black wolf quickly pinned the white wolf and ripped his throat out right in front of me. I dropped to the ground the feeling in my legs disappearing before the wolf looked back at me. It was V with his piercing white eyes.

Mortified I looked down into my lap as the wolf in front of me changed to his human form. It was Dante, but a very naked Dante.

I heard as other warriors came over to help take him to the doctor for help. I just sat there and waited until I didn’t hear them anymore before I looked up.

When I did I saw that V had already left. He was never going to leave me in charge again after this. I pulled myself up and slowly made my way down to the hospital wing, hoping Dante would be clothed and attended to already.

When I walked through the door Dr. Billings greeted me with a smile before he led me to the bed Dante was currently in.

He seemed annoyed, probably at being bed ridden for any amount of time when the other warriors were fighting.

“Sorry. I didn’t want for you to get hurt.”

“It’s fine Luna. It’s my job to protect you. I’m sorry that those two had made it into the house. We tried to contain them outside.”

I just nodded my head before I sat at the foot of the bed. “How long will he be here?”

Dr. Billings crossed his hands behind his back as he smiled down at me. “He’s a warrior. Six hours tops, and he’ll be back at it like none of this ever happened.”

I nodded before I leaned over and gave Dante a hug. When I pulled away I saw the shock on his face laced with a little bit of fear.

“My way to say thanks.”

When I arrived where the breech had started my men were finishing them up but there was a wolf that wasn’t mine. I knew it had to be Cassie’s brother since his wolf looked exactly like hers.

He was a damn good fighter, quicker than any warrior I’ve ever seen before. Guess the old tales about twins were true.

After we contained the breach, I took the few surviving wolves for questioning later as everyone went back to their posts.

Running back I just wanted to have some quiet so I could think about things but Brett had other things in mind.

“So Cassie was fine?”

“Yeah since I got there in time.”

“So they really went after her, I wonder why?”

“I don’t know.”

“I wonder how they found out. I mean only her pack knows besides ours.”

“Do you ever shut up?”

He huffed a little before he finally gave me the quiet that I wanted. What was Cassie thinking? Trying to take on two wolves in her human form is suicide.

At the mansion I quickly threw clothes on before I followed her scent to the hospital wing. She was sitting at the foot of Dante’s bed and I growled.

She quickly jumped up and ran over to me before I stopped her.

“Explain.”

She scratched her head before she tilted it to the side.

“Well you left and then Dante told me about the breech. I wanted to go but he said I couldn’t because I can’t mindlink.

” She stopped the story just to glare at me.

“So I stayed behind with Alexandra. Nick went with the others so he could keep me posted. I walked out of Brett’s office and there were these two creepy old wolves talking about I was leaving with them. ”

I tried not to over react to hearing her story but I knew that I wouldn’t be able to control myself when it came to her fighting them.

“I ran outside and Alexandra threw me a pole to fight with. It was going well, but then Dante jumped in to help and hurt his leg then you came and killed the other wolf…” She paused again but she just stared at the wall.

“And…” I tried to get her to keep telling her story.

“That was the first time I saw a dead wolf.” I just sighed as ran a hand through my hair. American wolves are way too sheltered. She should have seen a dead wolf years ago. It’s a way of life, our life.

“He won’t be the last, now keep going.”

“What else do you want to hear? I came here to keep Dante company before you came back.” Now she was giving me an attitude.

“I want to hear something useful, not that you’re a princess because we all know that already.”

“Shut up!” I raised my left eyebrow as I looked down at her. So that struck a nerve. “What? You think we don’t know. You’re a spoiled little American princess because you’re the only girl born in a century to your family.”

“Don’t call me that!”

“Princess.”

Since she had already slapped me, I should have seen her right hook coming. I turned my head back to the right position and saw that she had already walked off.

“Hey V. You know she’s going to leave now.”

“What do I care? If she wants to leave, she can leave.” I heard the door slam and knew that she was upset at what I said.

“Hey Cassie where are you going?”

“Home.” Alexandra quickly ran after me in an attempt to stop me.

“What happened?”

“What always happens?! I told you he was a cold, heartless, alpha! I just want to go home.”

I sighed as I felt my rage mix with Nick’s. He just had to come into the conversation at this time.

“What's wrong?”

“Don’t worry about it. Let’s just go home.” He nodded his head and I threw my head back in relief before I walked outside to see Nick’s new car.

“So mom and dad wait until I leave to buy you a car?”

“Jealous?”

“Psh. My car was better.”

“Was?” Oops. Maybe I shouldn’t have brought that up either. “Let’s just go. We have a long drive.”

Nick nodded and I climbed into his car before I looked at Alexandra. “You coming?” She seemed torn but eventually climbed into the backseat of the car as well.

The ride was very uneventful. Only the sounds from the radio kept it from being deadly silent. I didn’t feel like talking since V was the only thing on my mind. It was like our relationship would take two steps forward, just to be knocked back three more.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

I looked through the front windshield to see what Nick was talking about and knew things couldn’t get any worse. We were in Mason’s territory and his warriors were stopping us.

Nick rolled down his window to talk to them. “I already told you guys I would be coming back through your territory.”

“You’re coming through a lot later than you originally said, our alpha just wants to discuss why that might have happened.”

Nick looked over at me and I rolled my eyes. He had to know that was a lie but we had to go talk to him. You have to love treaties.

“Why does their alpha want to see us?” Nick pointed his finger at me and I tried to bite it. “Not because of me. I know he doesn’t know V’s scent.”

Nick glared at me and I quickly looked the other way. It’s not my fault he marked me and now I somehow smell like him.

Inside Mason’s pack house reminded me of how small my own home was going to be. It’s weird to think that I won’t get lost inside my own house now.

“Cassie?” I looked up to see the hazel eyes I once loved. His face grimaced. “You’re mated?!”

Alexandra whimpered next to me and I tried to see what happened but Mason wouldn’t let up.

“How could you do that? I know I fucked up but I never ran off and got mated. Who was the highest bidder?”

Hearing him say that made me stride towards him to punch him like I did V, but Nicky quickly grabbed me around the waist to pull me back.

“You messed up. Not me. Also, there was no bid. My mate came and he took me away. End of story.”

“Then why are you here now. Going back home?”

I rolled my eyes. I’m not telling him that I want to get as far away from V as possible at the moment. “I have questions for my mom. I’m too embarrassed to ask the female wolves at my new pack.”

He growled and I knew he interpreted that the way I wanted. Of course me and V haven’t done anything yet, but with V marking me, every wolf would think that we did.

Alexandra whined again before I turned around and snapped at her. "What are you crying for?!"

She looked down at her hands before she looked back up and past me to Mason. “He’s my mate.”

Again sorry for it being different from the other chapters but it's all for a reason. It will make a lot more sense in the chapters to come.
