Chapter 28
I will forewarn that I didn't end this the way I wanted...but my roommate keeps telling me about how I need to go to sleep since I have work in the morning. I wrote this longer to make up for my lack of updates.
I was excited when V told me Greggor was coming back to the US with us. I was a little sad to leave Aria so soon, but I missed home. I missed Nicky, Ted, and I really wanted to make sure Dante was doing better.
“Ara aeui sruibrad baruqad?” (Are you okay?) I looked over at V as he mind linked me and shook my head at him.
“I’m just tired.” I gave him a weak smile as he grabbed my hand and rubbed the back with his thumb. The motion alone put me at ease so much that I thought that I would fall asleep right then and there.
“Luna?” I felt as someone gently shook me back and forth in an attempt to wake me. When I forced my eyes open they finally focused on Brett’s smiling face.
“Wrara ded kae kora su su?” (Where did my mate go?)
“He got out of the car at one of our territories we passed to talk to the district leader. You don’t remember?” Brett looked at me, confusion laced all over his features while I had a mental break down. When did I fall asleep?
“Don’t worry Luna. We all dream about being awake at some point in time.” I looked at Greggor with a murderous glare. He knew something. “Where is he?”
“Luna he’ll-“
“Where?” I raised my voice as I began to grow impatient. I've been around long enough to know the excuse they would give me and I wouldn't take it. Not this time.
Greggor seemed to understand my irritation as he pulled out his cellphone and dialed a number before handing it to me. I grabbed the phone and put it to my ear.
“Is my brat grumpy from her nap?” I huffed in annoyance. I really wasn't in the mood to argue about him calling me a brat. “Where are you? And don’t even think about telling me you’ll be back soon.”
His silence told me he had no intention of telling me where he was. Why was it a secret where he was at? “V.” I drawled hoping to get something, anything, out of him.
He still said nothing. I pulled the phone away from my ear and looked at the phone to make sure that we were still connected. Of course we were. He was just ignoring me. “If you don’t-“
“This matter doesn't concern you. I’ll be home when I’m done.” Without a goodbye, he hung up the phone. I looked at the phone in complete shock.
“Luna.” Greggor was trying to warn me but I wasn't having it. He wouldn't tell me where he was, I was going to find him.
With a growl, I quickly bolted for the trees. There was a lot of swears being said as they chased after me but I didn't give up. I knew that once I was in my wolf form they couldn't keep up with me.
I hung up the phone and quickly went back into the meeting I was having with the Alex from the 10th district. When we landed a few of my men informed me that there was an imminent attack from Aiden and his followers.
To make matters worse. The 4th district was bordered with a pack that we no longer had a treaty with. I could possibly be gearing my men up for two wars and Cassie wanted to bother me about my whereabouts.
“As you were saying?” I crossed my arms as I stared right at Alex. He nodded at me in return as he walked back to the table were his files were.
“So ever since you left to Europe there has been an increase in both sightings and activity from their end.” He opened a folder and began to show me photos that some of the warriors had taken.
There was no doubt that they were up to something, I had no idea what, but I wasn't going to wait to find out. “Gather your warriors. I’ll call in the 7th districts warriors as well. We’ll end whatever they have planned before it begins.”
He bowed and I turned to walk away before he called out to me. “Alpha.” I turned around, irritation littered across my face. “What now?”
He cleared his throat before he began to speak again. “I think we have a spy. Someone knew about our Luna, and now they plan an attack while you’re away.”
I ran a hand through my hair to release some frustration. I figured that out the moment they knew about Cassie but I haven’t, and still don’t have the time to find out who it is.
“We’ll worry about that later. Attack now. I have to go to see Ryan about the Dark Mist pack.” He nodded again and I walked out.
I couldn't even make It to the car when Brett mindlinked me. “Ugh V we have a problem.”
“Is this problem bigger than us having two wars?”
“Kinda.” He should be thankful that he is nowhere near me. I wanted to kill him for giving me a stupid answer.
“Explain kinda before I disembowel you when I get back.” I really had no patience today. Everything that could go wrong seems to.
“Cassie is looking for you. We’re trying to catch her but-“ I cut him off before he could finish. “She’s too fast.”
I sighed before I let out a roar and ran back towards the house. “What direction is she headed?”
“North.” I quickly stopped as I thought about how she was headed towards the pack we were currently at war with. After I mated her there isn't a male around who wouldn't know that she was my mate. They would take her to get to me.
“Cassie. You can run all you want but stop going north.” I knew she couldn't mindlink me back but I hoped that for once she would listen to me.
I stopped the instant I heard his voice ring through my head. I argued with myself as to why I would listen but I just couldn't get my body to move again. I thought about how I still hadn't picked up his scent, so he probably wasn't further up north.
I also had the thought about seeing why it was that he wanted me to stop going. He never gave me answers, he just always barked orders.
I didn't get the chance to give it anymore thought before I was tackled to the ground. I looked up at Alexandra and growled before I tried to get back up. Both Brett and Greggor assisted Alexandra in pinning me down so that I couldn't get back up.
Struggling I began to whine as I realized that I couldn't get up. Even though I know my attempts were futile, I still tried, and I still whined.
A growl erupted and they all stepped away from me. I still whined even though I was free because I knew that I would be in trouble. I looked up to V’s white eyes that somehow seemed to be ablaze.
He looked over at Brett and Greggor and they both nodded their head. Brett bumped Alexandra before she followed them to go further up north. So why couldn't I go? I started to feel like an idiot for listening to him.
“Shift.” I looked down at the ground as I shifted back to my human form.
I didn't want to look at V since he was pissed and naked. He didn't say anything. Instead he picked me up and held me close to him as we headed east. I continued to look in the direction that the others went as he carried me away.
Our walk was filled with an awkward silence even I didn't know how to break.
Suddenly he stopped and I turned around to see that we had made it to one of the cars.
He held me with one hand as he opened the back driver side door with the other.
He placed me onto the seat before he walked around to the back of the car and opened the trunk.
When he came back he had on sweat pants and he handed me one of his shirts.
I took it and quickly put it on before I looked up at him defeated.
I opened my mouth to speak but he held up a hand. “Don’t talk. I don’t know what I’ll do if you speak right now.” I pouted as I looked back down at my lap. He’s really pissed.
“You are going to stay here until Brett comes. Do you understand?” I sniffled as I felt the tears welling up inside of me. The last thing I wanted was V mad at me after we were finally getting along.
I heard him sigh as he paced in front of me before he finally walked over and pulled me closer to him. “Why do you do this to me?”
“What?” He picked me up and sat down where I was before placing me on his lap. “Make me a little bitch.” I laughed a little at what he said before I laid my head on his chest.
“I don’t think you are. You’re an ass.”
“Well. This ass has a job which is why you are staying here.” He tapped his index finger to my nose and I tried to bite it before he pulled it away.
He placed me back down on the seat as he dropped his pants making me cover my eyes quickly. “Did you really just have to drop your pants?”
“You didn't complain yesterday.” I gaped at him, still not looking at his lower region. We might have finally consummated our union, doesn't mean I’m used to seeing his goods.
After V left I actually listen for once. It shocked even me. I just had to tell myself that he left me here for a reason. A reason I hope he would tell later whenever I saw him again.
It felt like hours since he had left. A girl can only listen to the radio for so long. I did get some help passing the time by informing my brother that I was fine. Yeah I had a little sad moment but it was to be expected with getting used to each other and all.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by a sudden movement by the car. I leaned up to look out the window and saw three men slowly approaching the car. I took in a deep breath before V mindlinked me.
“My men should almost be there to take you back.”
I thought that Brett would be taking me. Without warning the guys climb into the car, one even sitting in the back with me. I never seen any of these warriors before which doesn't help the situation any.
“Don’t worry Luna. Alpha is on his way to the house now.” The driver informed me as he put the car into drive.
If he was on his way, why couldn't he just take me himself? I attempted to ask them but wasn't able to. I didn't know them at all to ask them any questions. Well, except one. “What are your names?”
What is it with this pack and awkward silences? Are they not used to normal interactions? “Our names are not important.” God they are so much like V. They weren't going to tell me anything.
We sat in a silence for a while before the driver spoke up again. “Is Luna uncomfortable?” I shook my head at them. “I’m fine.”
“It’s just…Alpha said you like to talk, but you aren't speaking.” I looked at the warrior next to me in shock. V talked about me?
“Do you spend a lot of time with him?” They all smirked before looking forward. I wasn't surprised when the driver was the one to answer me. “If he’s not with you…” He turned around to look back at me. “He’s with us.”
I couldn't ask any more questions before we pulled up to the house.
They all got out of the car with the driver opening my door for me as well.
I walked up the steps and looked back to see them watching me.
“You aren't coming in?” They all shook their heads and I nodded at them in return.
That explains why I never saw them before.
Walking into the house I called out for V but didn't get an answer. “V!” Still there was nothing. I jumped when I heard the front door slam open behind me.
That is when Alexandra and Brett walked in with an injured wolf. Right after them was V and Greggor with injured wolves themselves.
“What happened?” I stilled as I smelled the air. V was bleeding as well. My eyes darted to him and scanned to see where he might be injured. I could only see a deep slash across his face and I quickly followed behind them to the doctor’s area.
Ted seemed to be overwhelmed by all the injured wolves that was brought in. “Where is Billings?” V barked at him.
“I don’t know. He went to town to get supplies but-“
“I’m here!” The doctor quickly yelled running into the room with a few female assistants carrying bags behind him. “Alexandra we’re going to need your help.” She just nodded as she followed the doctor to the patient he wanted her to help.
“Is this all?”
“These are the ones with the worst injuries. The others are at their districts doctor.” I looked horrified at V. There were even more people injured?
Dr. Billings just nodded as he helped Ted get settled before going to the last wolf to help him. I walked over to him and he smiled before looking up at me. “Yes?”
“Can I help with anything?” He just shook his head at me and I nodded back. I would probably only get in the way.
He handed me a wet cloth before he motioned his head towards V. I smiled as I took the cloth from him and slowly walked over to V. He was standing against the wall in a guarded position, watching the room.
I walked right to him and tried to put the cloth on his right cheek where he had the cuts. He quickly grabbed my hand and glared down at me. “I’m fine.”
“I’m just trying to clean up the blood.” He let go of my hand but leaned away from me.
In return I grabbed his hand and pulled it towards me. “They are fine and there is nothing we can do but let them be taken care of. Just let me clean your face.”
“You have something else to do.” I was taken aback by that. I don’t remember having anything to do.
“It can wait.”
With a raised brow, he slowly leaned down so I could clean the blood off his face. After cleaning him up I realized he got clawed in the face. “What happened?”
“Well after I put a pup in a car since she was on timeout, I pretty much walked in on a battle. I had a choice between my face and one of my warriors throat. This will heal.” He smiled at me but it didn’t make me feel better.
I didn’t care that he called me a pup. I was more bothered that his men had to fight without him because of me. He really did have a reason for me not going further.
“What are you thinking about?” I turned to V and saw he was worried. “How you wanted me away for a reason and that I’m the reason this all happened.”
“You’re not. It’s a problem that I've had before you've come.”
I didn't even expect him to tell me more. Instead I changed the subject. “Do you talk about me to your warriors?”
A face splitting grin appeared on his face. I couldn't help but smile as well. “They told you.” I nodded my head, still smiling. “Well…how can I not talk about you?”
Now I was blushing. I quickly look down to hide my blush but he grabbed my chin and made me look up at him. “No hiding. I’m clean now. Go out and the boys will take you to your job.”
Job. I have a job? I didn't question more and just walked outside to see the same three warriors that brought me home.
“Luna.” The driver bowed before he opened the back door for me. They all came in after and we were on our way.
I stared at the warriors as we were driving. The driver had chestnut brown hair that was cut in a crew cut. Staring at him I wondered how he had a perfect tan in this cold weather. I only caught a glimpse of his honey brown eyes when he checked on me through the rear view mirror.
The passenger reminded me of V the most. Dark hair, light baby blue eyes, and very serious demeanor. The warrior who sat next to me was the complete opposite of him. He was constantly smiling and I wondered how he got his teeth so blindingly white.
“We are almost to our destination.”
“Where are we going?”
Smiley looked over at me, with a smile of course. “2nd district.”
“Why?” They all looked back at me and I worried about us crashing. “You don’t know?”
“No. V just said I had a job.”
They all nodded their heads. The driver, who I’m going to call boss from now on, turned his whole body in his seat towards me. “It’s our first birth in quite a few years and as Luna it’s your job to welcome to the new member to the pack.”
My eyes went wide with excitement and worry. I've never seen a baby before. Well…a wolf baby. I saw a human baby a few times. I only handled the birth paperwork back home. I never visited the family.
I felt butterflies fill my stomach as the car slowed at a house. Boss was the first to get out of the car and open the door for me. I was a little slow getting out, my nerves getting the better of me.
“Luna.” I jumped up, scared that the passenger sneaked up on me like that. He’s officially going to be called Ghost. If they won’t tell me there names, I obviously have to make them. “Sorry but.” He held his hand out to where, I assumed, the father was waiting.
It was only two steps into the house but it felt like a lifetime to make it to the front door. The father gave me a warm smile as he bowed to me. “Luna. It’s nice to finally meet you.” I just smiled at him as I was at a loss for words.
“Come meet my son.” He smiled proudly as he opened the door wider for me to step in. Boss walked in behind me, as Smiley and Ghost waited outside.
I slowly followed the father down the hallway of his modest house before he stopped in front of a door and knocked lightly. I could already hear noises before a woman called out. “Come in.”
Smiling back at me, the father opened the door and a woman came into view. She was smiling at a bundle of blankets in her hand. I slowly walked into the room before she looked up at me and gave me the same smile her mate did.
“Come closer Luna.” That was a very frightening thought, but I was also very curious.
The closer I got the better view of the baby I got. Soon I was sitting in a chair next to the mother without even realizing it. He was sleeping peacefully and would only stir to stretch or yawn. This only made him look cuter.
Smiling down at him his mother shocked me when she asked, “do you want to hold him?” I looked at her terrified and she got up from her seat and stood in front of me. “Just hold out your arms.”
I did exactly as she told me as she placed the baby in my arms. She helped maneuver my arms so that I was supporting his neck before she stepped away. I was holding a baby.
He was the cutest thing I've ever seen. I could only smile down at him as I grabbed his little hand and look at him in wonder. How can something so small be so perfect?
“Luna.” I looked up at Boss and sighed. He wore an apologetic face that told me we had to get going soon. “It’s time to leave?”
“Yes.”
“Kay Boss. Just give me a minute.” He was confused for a moment but nodded anyways.
I looked up at the mother as I held out the baby for her to take him back. “What is his name?”
“We were going to name him Chase.”
“That’s a good name. I’m sorry to say that it’s time that I leave. I’m glad I got to meet you and to meet your little man.”
We all smiled at the baby before I made my way back towards the door. “Come visit anytime. It gets lonely with Don gone anyways.” I nodded and hoped I would be able to come back as I walked out to the car and got in with a sigh.
“Better than you expected?” Smiley asked but I kept my head thrown back against the headrest. “Yeah. I don’t want to leave yet.”
“Quick question.”
“Yeah.” I answered with a sigh. “Why did you call me Boss?”
I was exhausted but I still had paperwork to do. I left the infirmary when Dr. Billings had my warriors stabilized and they could finally shift back to their human forms.
Now me and Brett were trying to catch up on paperwork that had piled up while we were in Europe.
I just didn't know what to make about Aiden and his followers. I was gearing up to attack them where they were last seen by the 10th district, but they were at the 4th district when I arrived. They were working with the pack we no longer had a treaty with.
Now I have even more land. Not that I wanted it. We spared a few just to get information out of them.
“Luna gave us nicknames.”
I smiled as I got the mindlink from my number one in the blood pack. I’m sure she didn't ask why she couldn't know their names, but it was unexpected that she would just give them a name instead.
“She talking more?”
There was a pause and I wondered if it was because he didn't want to answer.
“A lot more.”
I’m glad she got along with them. She would be around them a lot more until I could get this Aiden situation settled.
There was a light knock on my door that pulled me out of my thoughts. “Yeah Greggor.”
He poked his head in the door. “How’d you know it was me?”
I didn't answer and waited for him to come into my office. “What do you want?”
“Well… I was thinking about how Cassie hasn't trained since she’s come here.”
“And.” I might have joked about her being out of shape but she wasn't and I didn't have the time to train her.
“Exactly. That’s why I was thinking that you might, possibly, let me and one of her new bodyguards help her. You know our skills are good. And I hope that you trust us enough.”
I wasn't sure that I could make a face that showed I trusted no one with her fully. Not even him.
“She’s a warrior. Plus that alpha blood is stronger in her than the average alpha daughter and I know you know that.”
I hated that he was right. She couldn't stay away forever and she would need someone who wouldn't try to baby her like I would.
Without a knock, my office door sprung open and Cassie came running right for me. “Oh my God! I saw my first wolf baby and he was so cute and so tiny and I got to hold him, then-“ I cut her off with a kiss before she pulled me into a deeper one.
After we pulled away I nodded at Greggor and he smiled before he walked out. I would set the rules for her training later. After the door closed behind him, I got up wrapping Cassie’s legs around my waist. “Let’s take a shower.”
“Why don’t we take a bath instead?”
I was going to protest but I knew that she liked baths. I never cared for them. “Fine. Let’s go.”
In excitement she started to kiss my neck and a low growl started in my chest. “Wait until we’re in the room. I like for my office to be strictly for work.” She nodded as she gave my cheek a chaste kiss.
In the room I placed her on the bed as I ran the water. In true Cassie fashion, she came and wrapped her arms around me and kissed me on my back.
“I thought I left you in the room.”
She giggled as she let go of her hold to put bubbles in the bath. I rolled my eyes as I walked over to the vanity and leaned against the counter. “I didn't agree to bubbles.”
“Bubbles make it more fun.”
“Trust me. You won’t care about bubbles.” She blushed and I smiled. I loved when she blushed because it showed that she was still a little innocent.
While waiting for the tub to fill up, I slowly stripped my mate to help her get ready. It was a good thing she was paying attention to the water, since I wasn't.
Once the bath was finally ready, I remember why I hate baths. I don’t have patience to wait for it.
“V.”
I look at Cassie and see that she has already gotten in. I follow after her and get in right behind her. I pull her close to me and she rested her head on my shoulder.
“You gave my men nicknames?”
“Well…they wouldn't tell me there names and I couldn't just be like ‘hey you’.”
“Hmm.” She slapped my forearm that was wrapped around her. “I can hear you judging me hardcore.”
“I’m not. It’s just so you.”
She laughed as she leaned back closer to me as I buried my face into her neck. She jumped away. “That tickles.”
“Well…” I turned her around so she was facing me. “Time to make our own baby.”
“What?!”
“I’m just joking...kinda."
"V!"
It's totally time for Cassie to train her wolf. Also...just a forewarning...I'm kinda kicking V out the next chapter...he has work to do lol.
