Chapter 35
As soon as I stepped into special tactics class the guys swarmed me. I was in shock to hear so much racquet from them since they usually spoke solemnly. I held up my hands to get silence. They all just stared at me.
"Good to see you guys too." I teased as the uproar started again. I got them to quiet down again before I sat on top of one of the desks.
"So..." I dragged on. "What have you heard?"
"You fought with the blood pack."
"And got injured." Another one piped in. I entwined my fingers and placed my hands on top of my lap.
"Mmmm. That's pretty much it." I tried to laugh it off but the boys were serious. "What happened?"
"I wanted to fight. I'm a fighter it's who I am but you all know how bad I am as a wolf." The smirks and snickers told me that they did. I could easily take any of them in hand to hand though. "So I didn't fair too well against two wolves."
All their faces fell instantly. "So when Brett was injured I ran him home on a minor tear but that caused it to snap into two. Now a day later I'm healed." The silence that filled the room showed they thought like Nicole. The battlefield is no place for a Luna.
"Glad you're back Luna." My instructor bowed to me before clasping his hands together. "Now let's start class."
Boy was I grateful for class. Now I could take my mind off the conversation we just had.
I groaned as I massaged my temples with my index and middle fingers.
This orvrok kosa is killing me. Everyone who was invited has confirmed their attendance.
That isn't the problem. The problem is all the other packs that want to attend as well.
Not to mention trying to arrange picking her family from Europe up. I feel like I'm going to go insane.
"It's just a damn orvrok kosa!" I yelled out.
"It's your mates orvrok kosa. Don't worry about her family. I took it upon myself to volunteer Smiley, as Cassie calls him, to help me."
I can't believe everyone is picking up her nicknames.
"It would be easier to use their real names but you already know the problem with that." I glared at Greggor for his comment. He knew I didn't agree with the old practices when it came to the blood pack. That's why I'm trying to change that.
"You know I hate that. It's way I left the boys in school and with their parents." Greggor nodded before he sat down in the chair across from my desk. The look he had showed he had something on his mind.
"You didn't come in here to talk about nicknames."
"No I didn't." He admitted to me. I just stared at him so he would continue.
"It's come to my attention that one of the bodyguards has found their mate." My face dropped at the news. I knew that Greggor only knew from hearing their thoughts.
"Who?" I asked strained. I didn't need more stress at the moment.
"Ghost? Maybe...I'm not too sure about that one." I was a little relieved to hear it was my third and not the first. It still isn't good news though.
"Do you know his mate?"
"We all do." Greggor stated matter of factly. With a raised eyebrow I motioned for him to go on. "Nicole."
Goddammit. It just had to be Cassie's friend. Her annoying friend at that. She talks too much. That's actually why they might be good together. He never talks. She never shuts up. Like Ying and Yang.
"We'll deal with this later. Tell my first he's got babysitting duty with the 2nd. Lover boy needs to stay away from her." Greggor nodded as he got up to deliver my orders.
I picked up my cellphone and dialed the alpha to the Darken Woods Pack. He answered on the second ring.
"Don't worry. I will attend tomorrow."
"I'm calling to see how your warrior was holding up." He got quiet on the other end of the line. That couldn't mean anything good.
"Even the damn spirituals don't work. I don't know what else to do." I could hear the frustration over the line. I didn't feel bad though. He should have listened to Dr. Billings in the first place.
"My offer still stands." I said to remind him of the best option that he didn't take before.
"And how is your Beta?" I knew he was skeptical of Dr. Billings.
"Up and alert. We've been cutting back his pain medication every hour." Another pause showed that he was in disbelief. He was obviously thinking about it.
"You can vouch for him?" He asked.
"I trust him more than most of my wolves." Hearing him sigh I knew he was coming to finally cave in and listen for once which is good for his warrior.
"Fine. I'll be there in 2 hours." He hung up and I made my way towards the infirmary to give Doc a heads up of the coming visitors.
When I walked in he was checking Brett's blood pressure. "Sup V." Brett lifted his head slightly to me.
"You're getting a friend soon." Dr. Billings scoffed as he placed his stethoscope around his neck.
"The quacks didn't help I'm guessing." I couldn't hold my smirk back. Doc rarely got upset but thinking a spiritual better than him at healing, it really boils his blood.
"No. So he's bringing his warrior in 2 hours." I informed the good doc. He sighed but nodded.
"He's so lucky I won't hold what he said against his warrior. I'll call my contact at the hospital." He quickly walked out of the room leaving me alone with Brett.
"Where's the kid?" I ask talking about Ted.
Brett shrugged as he forced himself to lean up. I knew he was feeling better since the motion didn't take as much out of him as it did before.
"Don't know. So what's going on?" I tried to say something but Brett cut me off. "I'll be better sooner not later. I just want to know what's going on."
If he wasn't hurt already I'd have put him in that bed for talking to me like that.
"Well since we have that spy we're going to use Cassie to flush him out. However, I increased security around our border districts to make sure they don't use the orvrok kosa as an opportunity to attack." Brett just nodded as he listened.
"That makes perfect sense." He smirked up at me. I rolled my eyes as I looked away from him towards the door. Billings should be coming back soon.
When I didn't hear any steps I turned back to Brett. "We have another problem." Brett's smirk was replaced with a look of curiosity. "Our 3rd found his mate."
Brett's mouth formed an o without him making any noise.
"What's worse, it's Nicole." Brett's body shook as he kept shaking his head back and forth. "But she's obsessed with Cassie's brother."
Now I was intrigued. No one told me about this. How did Brett know about Nicole's little school girl crush from his hospital bed while I was in the dark?
Realizing what he said Brett looked at me horrified. I'm pretty sure that is an omission of his guilt.
"I mean I think she is. It's the only time the girl is at a loss for words and Cassie always rolls her eyes when she's around them."
I smiled knowing that he wasn't keeping anything but his own personal thoughts from me. But I also smiled knowing that Cassie doesn't want her brother to be dating until he's mature.
"I'll talk to my mate about it tomorrow after her orvrok kosa. You just focus on getting better." He gave a quick nod as I walked back out of the infirmary. Well shit just got complicated.
Leaving our last class me and Nicole were talking, like usual.
"Am I riding with you?" I asked realizing that I never made plans or even asked how I was getting to Nicole's house. I'm pretty sure I will be driven by my 'babysitters' since they are staying to watch over us.
"I didn't know you needed a ride. I think our car is full." She held up her hand as she counted off everyone that was going with her.
"Me, my mom, Annie, Trip, and Gabby. Yeah we're full." She started before she put her hand back down to her side.
"Who's Trip?" I asked confused. I thought there was only going to be girls at this party. That's what I told V and I'm not trying to have an argument over something I didn't know.
She rolled her eyes and I was flabbergasted. Did she really just roll her eyes at me for asking a question?
"He's my little brother." She said through gritted teeth, like the thought alone annoyed her. "He's a freshman and sadly lives with me." I pushed her slightly as I glared.
"That's so mean. He's your baby brother." As the baby I felt bad that he didn't get along with his older sister like I did my brother. Nicole however didn't seem to care as she just shrugged and stepped outside.
I didn't argue anymore. Instead I ran over to V who had also come to pick me up from school as well. V swooped me up and placed a chaste kiss on my lips.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked surprised that Smiley and Ghost hadn't come to pick me up.
"It's the first time you're staying away from me without your family. I just want to drop you off." I smirked knowing he was having detachment issues already. I love my mate. I really do.
I huffed when I heard Nicole in her sickeningly cute voice say hi to my brother. Her crush was really annoying but I didn't know what to do about it. V looked down at me with a look that I couldn't quite decipher.
"What?" I asked him with my annoyance from Nicole firmly heard in my voice.
Instead of getting upset V just laughed as he let his hold of me go before pushing me towards my brother. I quickly ran into his arms and squeezed him tight.
"What are you still doing here?" I ask him surprised he hasn't gone home yet.
"V thought it would be better for me to stay here until your orvrok kosa." I'm going to kill him. I just hope he isn't going to be watching me tonight.
"Ugh..hmmm." I look over at Nicole trying to talk to V. I know that she was struggling to speak to her alpha for the first time. He is a little scary and daunting for the first time. "We are going to follow them to her house." I informed him so she didn't have to.
She smiled at me as she quickly ran over to her mother's car. We all climbed in and pulled behind them to go to Nicole's house.
"Is Nick staying with me?" I ask blatantly to V. V nodded in returned and I groan out of pure frustration. I didn't want my brother anywhere near Nicole right now.
When I looked over at V, he was shifting his view between me and the road. Somehow I knew I was in trouble. "When were you going to tell me about her brother?"
Dammit. I knew this would happen. I'm so going to kill Nicole. I'm sure that solves all my problems. But then I wouldn't have a friend. Ugh this is annoying.
"I didn't know. She literally just told me as we were walking to the cars. Then I got distracted by the fact that you came to pick me up. So this is all your fault." I try to place the blame on him. I know it won't work but maybe he won't be as mad.
"That's why you're making me go with her?" Nick chimed in from the back, obviously not knowing why he had to tag along to my sleepover. V didn't answer and we knew that was why.
"You can keep the brother entertained why the girls do....whatever girls do."
I just rolled my eyes. Like he didn't know what girls did. He lived with me how long now?
"How long have we lived together?" I asked him.
"3 months." He replied.
"And you mean to tell me that you have no idea what girls do?" I looked over at him to see that he wasn't paying attention to me anymore. He was lost in his own thoughts.
I wondered what he was thinking about but was worried that distracting him now might make us crash. I waited a few minutes but his seriousness didn't go away.
"V?" I asked lightly hoping he would hear me.
Thankfully he did as he slowly turned to look at me. His eyes were dark and he seemed to be annoyed. Was it me?
"Did I irritate you again?" I asked knowing that I tend to do that a lot.
"No." He stated and turned back to the road. Well at least it isn't my fault. I get the courage to ask what he's thinking about. "So what's wrong?"
He was silent for a while before he sighed. "There is too much going on right now. That's why I'm glad you are going to Nicole's. I will sort everything out and your day will be perfect tomorrow. Promise." A face splitting grin appeared on my face.
Nick however made a face at me from the back seat. I jumped up and tried to hit him but V grabbed my waist with his right hand to hold me back. "Crazy child! Sit down. We're here!" He quickly yelled.
I looked out to see that we had come to a stop. I got out and saw that Nicole had invited quite a few girls and I didn't know any of them. I latched onto my mates hand as we slowly walked up to the group.
All the girls stopped talking to stare at us. Nicole's mom walked over and slowly bowed her head to V. He nodded his head in response.
"Alpha. Thank you for allowing our Luna to stay with us. I'm honored." I face palmed as I thought about how formal they were being. I'm just a normal teenage girl who likes to act like one of the guys. There was no need for formalities.
"Anything to keep her happy." V replied looking down at me with a smile. "Plus her being out of the house allows me to actually get things done. She's quite the distraction." I blushed thinking about what he meant. So not the time to talk about that.
Thankfully Nicole's mother didn't see my blush and thought the comment perfectly innocent. I kiss his cheek wanting to hasten his departure before he said anything else I didn't want to be told.
He leaned down to accept it but continued to talk. "Hope you don't mind but her twin will be staying as well. I heard you have a son though."
"Oh yes. He can stay with my son Trip. I'm sure he won't mind." She smiled genuinely at him.
"Okay you can go now." I said pushing him back towards his car. Instead he just stood his ground and I couldn't push him anymore. I pouted and whined wanting him to hurry and leave even thought I would just miss him when he was gone.
He grabbed my chin and held it up so I looked towards him. "Love you." He stated before he leaned down the rest of the way to kiss me. I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him closer to me so I could deepen the kiss.
When he pulled away he pecked my lips with a smirk "I'll see you tomorrow." I nodded and turned around to half a dozen girls with their mouths hung open in shock.
Oh great. I knew the first thing we would talk about tonight.
I feel bad for not telling her what was bothering me but at least I didn't lie. I just realized that she was late. The problem I had was why? What could cause it?
The only person I knew that would have an idea was back at the house helping another wolf with Mercury poisoning. I mindlinked my 3rd so he could as the doc for me.
"Are you near the doctor?" I ask only linking him into the conversation.
"Yes." He answered simply. It was actually one of the main reasons we got along.
"Ask him what could cause a wolf not to go through her heat." I felt a little weird asking about her without her even knowing. Worse I had to get one of my warriors involved as well.
"No. He said that he hasn't heard anything like it. Why?" That was the dumbest question. Of course it had to do with my mate. I didn't need this. I didn't need to worry about her any more since I'm supposedly overbearing already.
I will talk to Dr. Billings about this more when I get back to the house.
