Letter Excerpt
Levette,
Warren is gone. Those in charge discovered his participation in what happened at the ball and I had limited options to protect him. I have exiled him from New Orleans for the time being and he will remain a nomad in my coven until I see the present danger is gone.
I am sorry that things did not work out the way either of us had hoped. There is something, however, that you should know. I should have disclosed it sooner, but I truly believed you were the balm to his soul. Now I see that this thing has more hold on him than I thought.
The last night you were together some years ago, you both murdered a witch mother and her child.
It is my belief—and you know I have extensive knowledge on the matter—that she placed a curse on you both.
I thought at first that it was simply to cause extreme bloodlust, to turn you both into the monsters she believed you to be, but I was wrong.
You are known to the witches, Levette. The mother you killed: I assume she knew who you were.
This curse is a way to hurt you. Since that night, Warren has become a crueler version of himself.
I suspected that if you were together, you would be able to pull him out of it.
Now I can see my mistake. As it serves as a way to harm you, he becomes more wicked the closer you are.
I apologize that I did not realize this sooner, and that it meant your last meeting went so awfully.
The spell is unbreakable. I have tried but cannot find a way out.
After consulting with some trusted colleagues, I would hedge that it will weaken over time.
Witches do not have the same sense of immortality as us, and therefore can never put a proper timeframe on curses. This will not last forever.
I will continue to watch over him, Levette. He will remain safe and alive until I am able to bring him home.
I would have visited but coven duty calls. There is a lot of groveling I must do and a lot of pain to endure to make up for Warren’s mistakes. I will be in touch when I am able.
Stay safe.
Regards,
Magdalena Vulpe
