22. Elijah
Chapter twenty-two
Elijah
I stare bewildered at Lilith. She’s been mumbling incoherently for the past thirty minutes, occasionally staring over at me with an exaggerated smile. I haven’t said a word, too afraid to draw more of her attention to me.
Kameron needs to come back. I can’t stand the idea of relying on him. I’ve been forced to fight against him ever since he was brought to live with my uncle. I spent everyday trying to prove that I would be the better leader for The Garden. I just needed my uncle to see that.
Although we never really got to know each other, since Kameron was hidden away during any family occasion, as I grew older my uncle began to fill me in on who he was. He glowed with pride whenever he spoke about Kam . The jealousy overtook me, and that's when I suggested a new facility. Broaden our horizons, find more sinners, save them. Maybe life would’ve been better had I just let Kameron win.
Lilith’s spine arches as she moans out. The sound catches me so off guard I’m convinced my heart stops for a moment. I watch as an orgasm overtakes her, leaving her writhing against the cold floor. Her cheeks are painted red as
her body begins to calm down. The small bit of hope I hold, crushes down as her body goes limp against the floor.
“There’s two sandwiches from the deli,” Kameron states as he pulls the plastic covered food from inside of his coat. He bends down, reaching towards my hands. I instantly jerk away, terrified of being hurt more than I already am. I’m not sure how much more my body would be able to take.
“Relax,” he coos as if he’s talking to a wounded child, “I’m removing the restraints.” Carefully, I push my hands in his direction. The idea of him seeing how much we’ll disobey Apollyon, just so he can hurt us, overtook me last night. Kameron was groomed to kill. I can’t fathom the idea of him helping us. But with the way he looked at Lilith, I’m not entirely sure I had him figured out to begin with.
The metal clanks against the floor and I look down at my wrists. The skin underneath has turned a cruel shade of green. My fingers tingle as my circulation attempts to return to full capacity. Kameron hands me one of the meals before walking over to Lilith’s side of the room. She’s still on her back, and while it's still been a bunch of religious bull shit, she's at least speaking fluently again.
I take a bite as I watch her turn to look at him. Her eyes light up and a smile spreads across her face. “My angel,” she squeals, “you came!” For the first time since she’s been here, I watch as she finally pulls herself up into a sitting position.
“I brought you a sandwich,” he calmly says as he unwraps the plastic. Lilith blushes as she leans forward to take a bite. It doesn’t slip my attention that he didn’t undo her chains as well. “I’m going to get you out of here Lilith.”
“I know,” she replies giddily, “God would never let his children be harmed.” When she’s done responding he gently
brushes some of the ratted hair away from her face. A pang of jealousy shoots up my spine. Doesn’t she know he was going to kill her? Does she know I’m the reason why? Guilt overtakes me and I turn away from the pair.
Even though I can’t see them, there's nothing I can do to block out the noise. To block out Lilith insisting she repays him somehow. I can’t stop focusing on his low laughter that follows each time.
“May I kiss you?” Lilith finally asks after fifteen minutes of literally eating from the palm of Kameron's hand. My eyes shoot towards them and I can't help the glare overcoming my face. I wanted her so desperately. Want. I want her, desperately. She was the first person who had put me first. I’ve been running second place my entire life and to finally feel important was so surreal. It terrified me, and looking at her now, I can’t believe I threw it away.
Lilith looks over and seems saddened by my anger. It doesn’t last long though as Kameron gently grabs ahold of her face and leans in to give her a kiss. It’s slow and gentle, and fuck I hate him. He doesn’t deserve any of this. I’m unable to pull my eyes away as she slides her body over and into his lap. Her hands are still chained, but she grabs onto his shirt with the small bit of grip she can get.
“I have to go, but I’ll be back in a few days,” he whispers to Lilith as he pulls away from her. Her lips are swollen from the kiss and her eyes are hooded with lust. Kameron gives me a small nod after he's finally stood. “Hands,” he demands.
I try to compress my anger as Kameron returns the shackles back to their home on my wrist. “Do you really plan
on getting us out?” I ask. I watch as his throat bobs with no response.
“I’ll be back in a couple of days,” he repeats.
