Chapter 12 #3
“Feed from it? Like drain us?” I asked.
“No.” He shook his head. “I literally will just feed off feeling the same emotion you do.”
“Is that true?” I looked towards Saint.
After a long moment he nodded his head, not looking happy about it as I stepped forward. “Okay, fine.”
None of the men tried to stop me, so I assumed it really wasn’t dangerous.
Love sat forward eagerly and motioned for my hand.
I felt a caramel and chocolate sensation run over my skin as he traced one of the lines on my palm, his eyes falling shut.
I wasn’t positive about what I was supposed to do, but all too soon my head was filled with thoughts about my boys.
They were thoughts that were normally there, but I felt a strong sense of overwhelming love crash over me, making my eyes tear up slightly.
Damn. If that was just the sensation of him reading my energy, I didn’t want to imagine if he used his actual power on me.
When he pulled back, he offered me a small smile filled with a softness I hadn’t expected, before obnoxiously stating, “Well, that was boring. Next.”
I rolled my eyes and walked over to one of the chairs, watching curiously as Saint went next. I could have sworn that Love was laughing at Death, but he didn’t say anything, instead going to do his reading.
“Ugh.” Love knocked his hand away. “This is the problem with god terrors—their emotions are so pure. Where is the angst and drama?”
“Didn’t you say you didn’t like that?” I clarified.
“I just said that is not the only form of love.”
With Cy he seemed far happier, smiling while doing his reading, before pulling back and offering a happy sigh. “Now that is something else, my little human. You have some very interesting creatures in your corner… And with no influence or magic. Amazing. You are nearly rivaling me right now.”
I think he meant that as a compliment?
Cy came to crouch down next to me as Zain took his turn. I didn’t notice any specific reaction to his thoughts, but I thought I saw a small smile pass Love’s lips before he motioned him away, Zain offering me a shrug and a cute smile.
“I was just thinking about how amazing you are, Bella.” He flashed a smile. “I suppose he would find that boring.”
“It is good he finds it boring and nothing came out of his interest,” Saint sighed.
“Oh Christ, talk about daddy issues.” Love had me scowling as he yanked his hand back from Damian and shook his head. “I am so glad you found someone to handle all that, because yikes.”
“Stop it,” I ordered as Damian offered me an amused look and came to stand behind me.
When he went to do Blackwell’s reading, Love’s brow dipped before he pulled back. “How?”
Blackwell smirked. “Because I am not letting you read shit off me.”
“Fine. Go.”
I was really glad that wasn’t an argument.
Amun was next, and when Love was done, he narrowed his eyes and made an interested noise but refrained from saying anything. Razar looked pissed, but he put out his hand, glaring at the bastard as Love happily took it.
My eyes widened as surprise registered on Love’s face, and he seemed to really look at Razar. “Really?”
“What?” I asked.
Love seemed hesitant before pulling back his hand. “Just an interesting dynamic, almost dual in nature… Not important really.”
It was totally important.
“Razar?” I asked softly.
“Later,” he promised as we spread back out through the sitting area.
Love sighed despondently after a few seconds. “The last time I saw my brother was two months ago. He likes to migrate city to city, soaking up all the hate in dense populations. Very depressing, if you ask me.”
“I have a serious question,” I pointed out.
Love looked at me with mild interest. “Okay, ask it.”
“The opposite of Love isn’t Hate, so why—”
“Do. Not,” Love snapped, looking furious. “We are not getting into that conversation.”
Oops. Touchy touchy.
“Do not snap at her like that,” Amun warned. I squeezed his hand and went back to focusing on Love, who rolled his eyes at us.
“Yes, well last time I saw him here, he said he was heading west. He didn’t tell me any more than that.”
“Do you have a way of getting in contact?” Razar asked.
Saint immediately answered, “He absolutely does.”
Love let out an exhale. “I can’t. He cut off that ability between us after our last fight, but I can tell you where he may be.”
Love's eyes closed for a minute, his power flashing out like a sonic boom. A wave of desire hit me, disappearing as quickly as it came and leaving me with a nasty headache. He opened his eyes after a minute and fixed us with a look.
“Colorado, somewhere just north of Boulder… A forest preserve, possibly.” He stood up and stretched. “Now can I go back to what I was doing?”
“I want your guarantee that you will come help with Chaos,” Saint demanded, standing up as his power curled around the room.
Love paled slightly, looking anxious. “Why do you need my help? It is clear you are more than capable.”
“Call it a hunch that your brother and War are possibly working with her.” Saint offered him a knowing look as Love exhaled, looking defeated.
“Fine. Fucking fine.” He produced a red orb and tossed it to Saint, who grabbed it and made it disappear. “Don’t bother me until you actually fucking need me.”
Love was walking away then, and Damian, because he was a troublemaker, called out, “I thought we were having dinner?”
Love turned and flashed a smile. “I already ate.”
I had a feeling he didn’t mean food.
