CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
RAINA
Two Weeks Later…
Every day is exactly the same. He uses me for what he wants, and I vomit. There’s no end in sight. I understand why he is angry, but this is too much.
I hear his voice but he isn’t alone. It’s a female with him, but I can’t make out if it’s one of the Bonetti women or not.
I glance over my shoulder and find, not only Lorenzo, but Bella staring at me. Her expression shows how horrified she is.
“Jesus, Kage,” she says with a gasp.
He quickly averts his gaze.
“This is how we deal with enemies.”
She shakes her head in disgust.
“You love her, you idiot. She is not the enemy. Undo her restraints.”
I don’t know why she’s here, but I’m grateful when he removes the cuffs, and I rub my red, aching skin.
“Give us some time,” Bella says.
With a sad smile, she instructs me, “Follow me. It’s going to be okay, let’s get you a shower.”
She carries a black bag, and I walk behind her. My legs feel like Jell-o, and my stomach is nauseous. We walk into a larger bathroom and she sets the bag down. Turning the water on, she asks, “How hot do you like it?”
“Hot,” I answer.
I step under the hot spray as she continues to talk to me.
“I’m sorry he’s doing this.”
“He’s angry,” I respond, like that’s an excuse.
She’s shuffling things around, as I wash my hair that feels like a rat’s nest at this point.
“No, he’s not. Not really. He’s hurt, Raina. He thinks you pretended to feel something for him, but it was all to get information on his family.”
I laugh bitterly. “Well, I was pretty honest with how I felt about being his captive until things started to change. And now, he hates me.”
I finish washing all the dried cum off my body, and open the shower door to spot clothing on the counter. Clothing. That should not be nearly as exciting as it is. She holds something in her hand.
“I need you to pee on this.”
A pregnancy test.
“I’m not pregnant. I can’t be.”
“Kage says you’ve been vomiting a lot, and that you’re barely eating. We need to find out what’s wrong with you because he’s worried. And driving us crazy, so just pee on the stick so we can rule that out.”
I nod and grab the towel to dry off.
“It’s awfully insensitive to send the woman that lost a baby to find out if I’m pregnant. Not that I should be surprised.”
She hands me a t-shirt, and I put it on, as she responds to my statement with a soft smile.
“I volunteered. It was obviously between Athena and I. I thought I could help the most, so here I am. Kage and Reaper aren’t all that different. Neither of them know how to deal with emotions, which is why this is how he has been dealing with things. He is sick with worry about what’s going on with you. I know he isn’t showing you that, but it’s true.”
After I pull on the panties and pants, she hands me the test.
“I’ll step outside. Let me know when you’re done.”
I stare at the test with apprehension. If I’m pregnant, then what? Is he going to force me to have an abortion? Or is he going to raise my baby, while I sit chained up in the basement? Will I even be allowed to see it? All the questions in my mind have the panic setting in. Taking a deep breath, I pee on the stick. Setting it on the counter, I flush the toilet and wash my hands, as I yell to Bella that I’m done.
“Now what?” I ask when she comes back in.
“We wait.”
