Chapter 10
Three days passed since Junie and I left my house. We stayed cooped up under each other the entire time. Junie would cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I stayed in the kitchen, studying her moves and listening to her stories while learning her thought process. Junie was more than just the file her father gave me. She loved art and being alone, but at times, she liked to be smothered by the person she loved. While I sat and watched the house, she moved throughout the kitchen. She brought a different aura to my home. She added the color I had been missing this entire time. Today would be the last day of being unplugged from the world and I was disappointed. I wanted to stay this way with her forever.
Junie would joke about wanting to own a restaurant. She would be the head chef, and she would cook a variety of food. It would be different ethnic foods with a twist in honor of her mother who loved cooking. She cooked meals she envisioned on her menu. Everything was top tier. After stuffing our faces, Junie laid around, watching her reality shows while I went upstairs to look more into the mysterious blue bike. The bike had a familiar look, but I wasn’t sure if that was because I kept looking at the picture. Unc kept calling to determine if I had figured anything out yet, but I hadn’t. I kept hitting a brick wall. I was currently in my office looking up the specs of the bike when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in, pretty,” I called, closing out of my web browsers.
Junie walked in wearing my sweatshirt and panties. She looked beautiful even dressed down. She made her way around the desk and sat on my lap. She placed a kiss on my lips. “I need to go check on one of my bikes.”
“Everything cool?”
“Yeah, I just want to make sure it’s cranking on okay. Sometimes when I let it sit for a while the battery goes bad.”
“The bike at your people warehouse?” She nodded. “Yeah, we can ride out there.”
“Thank you! Let me get dressed.”
She kissed me once more then sped off to get dressed. I realized I had the same silly grin on my face any time Junie was in my presence. I was falling for her. It was the first time in my life I had ever fallen for someone, and I didn’t know what to expect, but I now understood why my father acted the way he did about my mother. I stood from the computer and got dressed to get a move on things so we could be back by the time the sun was gone. I opted to drive my bike. That way we could get there and back faster.
Thirty minutes later, Junie and I headed to the warehouse where they kept their family bikes. We arrived at the warehouse forty-five minutes later. I parked the bike, shutting off the engine. Immediately, Junie hopped off the bike and glared at me.
“What?”
“Speed demon! You driving in and out of those cars scared the hell out of me.”
I laughed. “I thought you said you like to go fast?”
“Speed not dying.” She sassed.
I stepped off the bike and pulled her to me. I kissed her deeply while doing my signature move of squeezing on her butt. She moaned into the kiss and that fueled me. My arousal heightened. I needed her, and I needed her right then and there. I checked my surroundings and knew we were alone. The warehouse was ducked off and no one traveled these roads. I spun Junie around, and her ass was against my dick, causing it to harden even more. I used my left hand and placed it around her throat while I used my right to slowly enter her pants. She didn’t have on any panties. On top of that, her honey pot was warm and wet.
“Kairo,” she moaned as I moved my fingers in and out of her. “Shit, this feels so good.”
I fingered her for another minute before I bent her over the seat of my bike. I pulled down her pants just enough to show her apple ass. I slapped it and rubbed at the spot. She yelped from the slap then let out a moan. Quickly, I removed myself from my pants and slammed into her. Junie screamed as I stroked deeper insider of her. My adrenaline was pumping. The taboo of fucking outside and getting caught only made me go harder. Adding Junie’s moans in, and I was going to cum quicker than expected.
I stroked Junie long and hard until I felt myself release inside of her. Junie let out another loud scream, letting me know she had also come. We stood there for a few minutes before either one of us gained the energy to clean off. I stuffed myself back into my pants and helped Junie with hers.
“You’re a dangerous man, Kairo,” Junie said, looking flustered.
“Says the woman that’s the VP of a dangerous bikers club,” I teased.
I pecked her lips, causing her to smile. Her smile alone pulled at my heart strings. I had been contemplating on whether I should leave this mission before things got serious with Junie. I knew that for me to stay around Junie, though, I had to remain undercover until I found out who killed my father. I knew she wouldn’t forgive me, knowing my blood was Iron Knights and I’d been plotting this whole time.
“Kairo,” June called, pulling me from my thoughts. “Are you going to stand out here or are you coming inside?”
“My bad. I was daydreaming. I’m coming.”
She smiled. “Hurry ’cause I got a surprise for you.” She winked.
I sped up to catch up with Junie. We made it inside and Junie turned on the lights.
“Which bike you riding today?” I asked.
She still had a smile on her face. “Actually, that’s the surprise,” she said, wrapping her hand in mine. She tugged on my hand, causing me to follow.
“The other day when you left me at your house, I was looking for lotion. I came across a picture, and it was a picture of a bike.” I froze, which caused her to stop walking. “What?”
“Junie, why were you plundering through my shit?”
“Relax. Let me finish.” She grabbed my hand and continued to pull me along the way. “I studied the picture, and it dawned on me. It was the exact replicate of my father’s bike.” We stopped in front of the blue bike. The same blue bike that was in the picture Unc gave me. My body heated. I gnawed at my lip to control myself. Junie continued. “I thought it would be nice for you to take it for a spin to see if this is the bike you want.” She clapped and smiled.
For me, this wasn’t a happy moment. This was a gut punch.
“This your daddy bike?” I asked, just to make sure I heard her correctly.
She kept a big smile on her face. “Stop being silly, Kairo. Yes, this is my father’s bike. He doesn’t ride it anymore. He just keeps it parked here. It’s even collecting dust.” She shrugged. “I’m sure he won’t even notice if you take it for a spin.” She wiggled her shoulders while holding up the keys. My world came crashing down right in front of me. I was falling for Junie, and her father killed mine. For the first time since my father died, tears came to the surface of my eyes. It was like reliving it all over again. “Kairo, you good?” she asked, placing her hand on my arm.
Immediately, I drew back from her as if she had the plague. At this point, she was guilty by association. Everything happened so fast. My judgment became unclear. At this point, no one could be trusted. I felt like Junie knew all about who my father was, and her father was the one that killed him. I thought it was me doing the setting up, but actually, it was her. She looked at me, hurt. She felt the coldness. Before I could respond, her phone rang. She looked at the name that showed up on the phone and rolled her eyes. She mumbled something then answered the phone.
“Yes, Daddy?”
The pot had boiled over for me. The self-control I thought I could hold in was gone. This was a set up. I pulled out my phone and sent my uncle confirmation of the bike and who it belonged to. Immediately, my phone rang, but I ignored it. My father might have been his brother, but he was my dad.
“Daddy, slow down… but… Dad… you what?” She screeched. Junie slapped her forehead with her hand and groaned in agony. “Okay, we’ll be right there.” She let out a loud huff. She looked at me even more defeated. “Kairo, my dad wants to see us at the house. He… well… he saw us on camera earlier. He wants to talk to us.” That was music to my ears, because I had already made up in my mind the next time I saw Prez, he was dying. I wasn’t even fazed that he saw me ramming into his daughter. I was thankful that would be the last image he saw of her. “Um, I can drive back since you drove here.”
I looked at her with a twisted expression. There was no way in hell she thought she was getting on my bike ever again.
“Nah, pick one of these motherfuckers to drive. I’m riding my own shit.”
“Kairo! What is going on?” Instead of answering her, I walked out of the warehouse door and started my bike. Five minutes later, Junie came out on a white ninja. She didn’t have her helmet on so I could see her face. She looked sad, confused, and hurt. She rode over to me and stared. I kept a straight face, trying to contain my heart from feeling sorry for her. “Did I do something? Like, am I missing something?”
“Lead the way, Junebug.”
She sighed. I slid on my helmet and got in position to ride. Junie took off and I was right behind her. Tonight was going to be the last night she saw me and her father.
We arrived at her father’s house. There were additional cars, and I knew one was Belt’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if Junior was in the house, but it didn’t matter to me. My beef was with Prez, and if they got in the way, then it was what it was. I got off my bike, leaving my helmet on the seat. Junie stood beside me.
“Kairo, talk to me. You’re acting weird. If you worried about what my father is going to say, don’t be. I’m just going to let him know it is what it is. We’re enjoying each other’s company, are we not?” I didn’t answer her. Junie had now turned into the opp. “Please let me do the talking if you’re that worked up about this. My dad isn’t that bad.”
I looked at her and scoffed. “Fuck your daddy.”
She gasped as I brushed past her, heading to the front door. I could hear her shoes against the pavement as she ran behind me. Instead of ringing the doorbell, I knocked. I knocked so hard, pretending that the door was Prez, and I was beating on him.
“Kairo, why are you beating on the door like that?” Junie asked, but I ignored her.
She kept saying something, but it fell on deaf ears. There was nothing else Junie could say to me. I could hear Belt’s voice on the other side of the door.
“Goddamn, nigga, you knocking like the police!” He answered the door and looked at us. He shook his head and laughed. “Y’all in trouble.”
I didn’t waste any time. I brushed past him on a mission to find Prez. I could hear Belt ask Junie what was wrong with me.
I searched until I heard other voices and went straight there. As soon as I entered the room, Prez stood up to yell, but before he could finish, I had both guns pointing at his skull. I could hear the cocking of Junior’s gun.
“Kairo, what the fuck are you doing?” Junie yelled from behind me.
“Aye, what the fuck this nigga on?” Belt yelled. I heard a gun cocked, and I knew it was his, but I didn’t care.
“You got your gun pulled on me because I caught you fucking my daughter? Are you fucking serious?” Prez yelled.
“Daddy!”
“Shut up. I’m sick of you and your slutty ass ways.”
“Aye, man, come on. That’s your daughter you’re talking to,” Belt said to Prez.
“Everybody shut the fuck up,” Junior shouted. “I’m trying to see why this nigga pulled his gun.”
The room went quiet. I kept my eyes locked in on Prez. The only thing I could think about was how my father laid on the cold concrete ground because of him and how he was on the way home to kiss and hug my mama after a long day of being gone. The last thought was how my father wasn’t here to see me grow into the man I had planned to be.
“Tell me why I shouldn’t shoot two hot ones right now in your fucking skull,” I demanded. The room grew quiet. That pissed me off even more. “Nah don’t get quiet now. Tell me why the fuck I shouldn’t blow your fucking head off right now!”
Sniffling came from behind me. I knew it was Junie, and even though it pained me, it killed me more knowing this man killed my father.
“You come in my house and point a gun at me because you’re mad I caught you fucking my daughter on camera? Make it make sense, motherfucker!”
I chuckled. “You’re full of shit. Stop being a pussy and go ahead and admit it. You killed my father.”
Junie gasped.
“Huh? Why would my dad kill your dad? They probably don’t even know each other. You sound stupid as fuck. Put the fucking gun down,” Junior said.
“Who is your father, young blood?” Belt asked from behind me.
“Kumar Woods… Legend of the Iron Knights.”
Prez’s eyes widened. I could hear Belt swear behind me.
“Junior, take your sister out of the room,” Belt instructed.
“Nah, Unc. This nigga an Iron Knight by blood. He finna kill my daddy,” Junior protested.
“Take your sister and leave. Right now,” Prez said.
“Daddy,” Junie called.
“Leave, baby girl.”
After a few more seconds of Junie protesting, Junior grabbed Junie and left out of the room. Belt walked to my side. He had a look of empathy sketched on his face, but I didn’t trust it. I kept my gun trained on Prez.
“You were undercover this whole time? Setting me up?” Prez asked.
“Fuck you! I’m running shit now. I’m asking all the questions.”
Belt let out a deep sigh. “What you want to know?”
“Nah. I don’t need to hear shit from you. I want to know from Prez who pulled the motherfucking trigger. Who the fuck killed my dad?”
Belt stepped back. “Answer him, Josiah.”
Prez dropped his head and sighed. “The Iron Knights are responsible for my wife’s death...”
“How the fuck do you know that? You assumed that. You don’t have proof!”
“Who else would’ve done it?” he asked. He shook his head. He rubbed his temple with his thumb. “The proof was that my wife was in love with your uncle and your uncle was in love with my wife.”
It felt like a train had run over me. This was news to me. Unc acted as if he didn’t know much about Prez’s wife. Whole time they were in love.
“I loved my wife. She was the best thing that happened to me, but I could never compete with your uncle, no matter how hard I tried. I wined and dined her, but there was something about your uncle that kept her running back to him each time. They didn’t think I knew about their affair. I would follow them out to that stupid ass white house by that dumb ass lake she made me buy, saying it was an oasis for her and Junebug. The entire time she would go meet up with your uncle.”
“Why not take that shit up with my uncle? My daddy had a woman at home!”
Prez leaned forward and grabbed the glass cup that had brown liquid in it. I figured it was liquor by the way he scrunched his face after drinking it.
“I tried. I followed them out to the lake one night. I must of fell asleep. By the time I woke up the lights were out. The plan was to go in and shoot him and leave. Make things look like a robbery. I didn’t know he left in the middle of the night.” He cleared his voice. “It was dark… and um—I swear I saw him. I emptied the clip on my wife.”
Tears fell down his face. I glanced over at Belt. He looked pissed but sad at the same time.
“You knew?” I asked Belt.
“I ain’t find out about it ’til after the deed was done. Was the shit wrong to crash out over some pussy? Yes. But I’m a Savage Saint ’til the day I die, and I had to stick beside him.”
I sucked my teeth at him and turned my attention back to Prez. Belt was the least of my concerns. He was a coward and followed everything Prez did and said.
“You killed your wife but blamed the Iron Knights, for what?”
He shrugged. “They were to blame, goddamn it! If your uncle would’ve kept his dick elsewhere and out of my wife, I wouldn’t have gotten to that point. It was his fault!” He screamed.
“That’s why you killed my father?” I asked.
He nodded. “I wanted your uncle to feel hurt too.” He sat down in the chair. “You gonna shoot me, go ahead and do it. At least tell Junie I’m sorry for calling her out of her name. I just want her to find the right man and settle down. Let that man love her the way I loved her mama. Keep her goodies locked away from strays.”
“Junie knows about this?” I asked.
Prez shook his head.
“She doesn’t,” Belt said. “Neither does Junior.”
My heart ached for her. She had no idea about her mother’s death. She had been fed lies for years about what happened to her mother. Instead of her father protecting her, he ruined her life all out of jealousy and guilt. I reached for my phone and sent my uncle the signal to burst in. I had a bone to pick with him also. He had put me in harm’s way. He knew exactly what the beef was about and didn’t speak on it. Both of these motherfuckers were dirty. They were foul and deserved anything that came to them. Seconds later, the door flew open, and the sound of feet came running in.
“Nephew, you okay? Where you at?” Unc shouted.
I spun and saw my uncle and Mario bending the corner with their guns out. A few more members from the Iron Knights hit the corner too. When I looked, Junior was walking in with his gun raised and behind him trailed Junie with hers raised. Her eyes were red and swollen. She looked defeated, as if she had lost her best friend.
“What’s up, nephew?” Unc said, looking at me like we just won the lottery while he was just as guilty as Prez.
“Shit, you tell me, since we like to keep motherfucking secrets.”
I didn’t care that everyone’s guns were pointed at someone. At this point, I didn’t care if anybody made it out alive. All I cared about was avenging my father.
“What you mean?” Unc asked.
I chuckled. I was sick of the back and forth.
“You’re the reason for the war. If you weren’t sleeping with Prez’s wife, she wouldn’t be dead. Neither would my father.”
The room had ten people holding weapons in it, but if a pin dropped, I would hear it. I looked at Prez, and he kept his eye on Unc.
“Now y’all ain’t got shit to say?” I asked.
“Dad, what the fuck is he talking about?” Junior asked.
Before he could speak, I answered for him. “Junior, your shitty ass father killed my dad in revenge because my uncle was having an affair with your mama.”
“It was more than just an affair,” Unc spoke up. “We were in love.”
“Motherfuck—” Prez rushed at Unc, causing commotion.
It went on for a few seconds before a bullet was shot in the air. Everyone turned to Junie. Tears streamed down her face. My heart ached for her.
“Dad, did he kill my mother?” she asked, pointing the gun at Unc. “Did one of his bitches kill my mother?”
“Child, please! Your daddy killed your mama! He thought it was me and let off that many rounds in her.”
“Dad… Dad, tell me he is lying.” Junie sobbed.
I wanted to run toward her and tell her everything was going to be okay, but it would be a lie, and I was no longer in the business of lying. Junior sniffled as tears ran down his face. The entire backstory was heartbreaking.
“Answer me, Dad. Is he telling the truth?”
When Prez didn’t answer, Junie dropped her head in shame. She let out the loudest scream I’d ever heard. She fell to her knees and sobbed. Junior ran toward her, lifting her in his arms and walking out of the room.
“You motherfucker!” Prez said, lunging again, but this time, no one stood in the way.
Unc and Prez went blow for blow, getting the best of one another. After all this, I no longer cared to be around these people. My father died because of his own blood and a scorned man. I shot a bullet in the air, causing the commotion to stop.
“This biker club shit… I’m done with it. Fuck the Savage Saints and fuck the Iron Knights. Y’all ain’t got no heart, especially you two motherfuckers. Y’all deserve to kill each other, and if y’all don’t do it, I hope someone does it—and fast. Y’all ain’t even worth the energy.”
I tucked my gun and walked past both of them. I stopped by Prez and looked him in his face. “The only reason you ain’t bleeding out is because of Junie. She already lost one parent. I won’t be the reason she loses another one.”
I lifted my gun and slammed it across his face. I walked out of the house, ignoring the calls from my uncle and cousin.
