Chapter 6 #4
She smiled sweetly.
Elias stared at her for a long second.
Then he gave her a tight smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“You’re welcome,” he replied through clenched teeth.
Amara beamed at him like she hadn’t noticed the irritation practically radiating off him.
Then without another word, she turned around and practically skipped down the courthouse stairs.
Her heels clicked rapidly against the concrete as she hurried toward Jasper, who was waiting beside his car across the street.
Jasper’s face lit up instantly.
“YES!” he said, breaking into a wide, genuine grin.
He stepped forward quickly and gave her shoulders a firm shake of excitement..
“That’s what I’m talking about!” he said, laughing under his breath in relief. “Finally!”
His smile stayed on his face as he looked at the papers, then back at her.
“Congratulations!”
The two of them looked ridiculously happy standing there celebrating.
Meanwhile, Elias stood completely still watching them.
His gaze remained fixed on Amara’s smiling face.
She looked… genuinely happy.
Felix cautiously glanced sideways at Elias and almost winced.
The atmosphere around him was terrifying.
Elias’s brows slowly furrowed.
Then he turned toward Felix with visible confusion.
“Didn’t everyone say she is madly in love with me?”
Felix blinked.
Then awkwardly shrugged.
Before Felix could think of something to say, Jasper’s loud voice rang out.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Creed!” Jasper called while wrapping an arm around Amara’s shoulders. “You made our lives so much easier!”
Something inside Elias visibly snapped.
“This goddamn motherfucker—”
He immediately started striding toward Jasper with a dangerous expression. Felix panicked and quickly grabbed his arm with both hands.
“Mr. Creed!” Felix hissed urgently. “We are still outside the courthouse. You cannot start a fight here.”
Elias clenched his jaw so hard the muscles along it ticked.
“He’s provoking me on purpose!”
“I know,” Felix said quickly, lifting both hands in a calming gesture. “Mrs. Creed is probably just confused right now because everything happened so suddenly.”
Even he could hear how weak that excuse sounded.
On the other side, Jasper and Amara remained completely oblivious to Elias’s rage.
Jasper happily opened the passenger door for Amara. She climbed inside, still smiling brightly.
Elias stared at the vehicle with an increasingly dark expression.
Then he looked at Felix again and gritted out through his teeth,
“Didn’t everyone say she is madly in love with me?” he snapped irritably. “Then why does she look like the happiest woman alive right now?”
His eyes stayed fixed on the car.
“I thought she would refuse to go through with the divorce once we got here,” he continued bitterly.
His jaw tightened, eyes darkening as the memory replayed in his mind.
“But she looked like…” he paused, jaw flexing again. “…the happiest person in the entire goddamn courtroom just to be first in line to get it done.”
Felix rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
“It’s just divorce, Mr. Creed,” he said carefully. “Maybe Mr. Hawk—”
Elias turned toward him. Felix immediately corrected himself.
“Maybe Mrs. Creed just hasn’t processed it emotionally yet,” Felix said carefully, choosing his words like he was walking through a minefield. “She might change her mind later.”
Elias shot Felix an incredulous look, his brows pulling together dangerously.
“Have you completely lost your fucking mind?” he snapped. “The divorce is already finalized. When exactly is she going to change her mind now?”
He looked toward the car again just in time to see Amara laughing at something Jasper said.
The sight instantly darkened his expression further.
“What is she even so happy about?” he muttered darkly, his gaze snapping back toward the car. “Getting into that car with that fucking loser like he’s some kind of savior.”
His jaw tightened.
“She’s clinging to him like he’s made of gold.”
Felix kept his gaze on Amara, his hands clasped neatly behind his back as he rocked slightly on his toes, almost absentmindedly.
He spoke as if he were thinking aloud more than actually commenting.
“He may be… Frost Industries is almost on par with the Hawks’ family business,” he said casually. “So financially speaking, they’re actually well-matched. Same social standing, no imbalance of wealth or status… that usually works better.”
He tilted his head slightly, still watching her.
“Marrying into a man with more money than you, or a higher position tends to create tension. This way, neither is above the other. Usually it brings more love and affection between the couple.”
Felix turned his head.
Elias was staring at him..
The glare in his eyes was sharp enough to feel physical, cold and suffocating, like the air itself had been pulled out of the space between them.
“Oh.”
Felix instinctively took half a step back, suddenly very aware of how loud the silence had become, and how dangerously still Elias was standing beside him.
Elias closed his eyes for a moment and inhaled deeply through his nose, visibly trying to restrain himself.
When he opened them again, his gaze was controlled—but darker.
He looked toward the car again.
“Transfer her the alimony,” he said flatly as he shoved the divorce papers into Felix’s chest. “First thing after we get back to the office.”
Felix caught the papers hurriedly.
“Mr. Creed… I don’t think that’s necessary.”
Elias frowned immediately.
Felix lowered his voice.
“Mrs. Creed already removed the alimony clause from the documents. You don’t need to pay her anything.”“Mr. Creed… I don’t think that’s necessary.”
Elias frowned immediately.
Felix lowered his voice.
“Mrs. Creed already removed the alimony clause from the documents. You don’t need to pay her anything.”
Elias reacted instantly, his voice sharp with frustration.
“Why the hell would I not pay her anything? She’s my wife. What happened between her and me is separate from this.” Elias pointed toward the divorce certificate in Felix’s hands impatiently.
He looked away irritably before adding coldly,
“I’m not going to let my wife live on her own without money. The moment we reach the office, go to accounts and have them transfer the money into her personal account.”
Felix blinked once. “A hundred million, sir?”
Elias shot him an exasperated glare.
“She asked for five, didn’t she?”
Felix immediately straightened. “Sorry. Understood, Mr. Creed.”
He quickly lowered his head and noted it down while Elias stared back toward the car again, his expression darkening by the second.
Just then—
Elias’s phone vibrated sharply inside his pocket.
He pulled it out with a slight frown and glanced down at the notification. Shock flashed across his face immediately.
Felix noticed the sudden stillness and looked at him.
The notification on the screen read:
‘$500,000,000 has been transferred to your account. Sender: Amara Hawk.’
