Chapter 12 #2

I nod, grinding my teeth together. Chris is a friend, but there’s no way I’m going to let him get away with how he was handling her.

And what was he talking about confetti and silly string?

He was supposed to ask her to come in for questioning.

I said get her in at any cost, but I didn’t mean kidnap the damn girl!

“So,” she leans back in the seat, blue eyes staring at me. “What am I in here for? I haven’t done anything wrong.” She leans forward. “If my old boss is behind this, I wasn’t the one who set fire to his garage. That was his crazy bitch of a wife.”

I smile, shaking my head. I do remember reading about that, but no charges were pressed. “No. It’s not about that at all. You’re not in any trouble, Nova. I just want to ask you some questions.”

“Questions about what?” she asks, lifting a brow.

“First, let me introduce myself. I’m Detective Tucker Davis,” I say, leaning back in my chair and crossing my arms, trying to ignore the smug pride that fills me as her eyes roam over the tattoos on my arms. “And I’d like to ask you a couple of questions... about your Alphas.”

Her eyes snap up and I curse. Fuck. I shouldn’t have outright said that. I was supposed to start with letting her know her mother put out a damn missing persons report. Damn it.

“What about my Alphas?” There is a sharpness to her voice. Damn it, Tucker.

I clear my throat. “Let’s circle back to that in a moment. The main reason I needed you to come in today was because there is a missing persons report out on you.”

“There is?” She looks at me confused. “Why? I’m not missing.” She gestures to herself. “Suprise, I’m right here.”

I can’t help but snort. She’s cute. And funny. Fuck.

“Yes, I can see that.” I chuckle. “But it seems your mother was led to believe you were missing.”

“My mother?” she sighs heavily. “Of course she’s doing something like this.”

“Might I ask why?”

“I’m not missing. I chose to leave. After I saw her gagging on my ex-boyfriend’s cock,” she mutters, leaning back in her seat.

My brows furrow. “What the fuck?”

“I know!” She throws her arms into the air. “Who does that? Anyways, I took everything I had in my name and left, not that there was much. Here’s some advice, stay away from loser Betas. They’re only trouble.”

“Good thing I only get involved with Alphas.” I smile.

I’m single, but when it comes to my heat, I find willing Alphas to help. Even a few officers from work have volunteered. It gets the job done. Just sex.

It’s not that I don’t want Alphas of my own or to find a pack, I just want the ones, you know? My scent match, or matches. I’d hate to start something up with someone, get invested in that relationship only to find my scent match.

Plus, I work a lot. I don’t have time to date. I get what I need... for now anyways.

“Ugh, don’t get me started on Alphas,” she sighs heavily. “Just as bad. I should just have just stuck with Omegas. Not that I’ve ever been with any, but they seem like they might be easier. At least they can understand me and the shit I have to go through as an Omega myself.”

“Fair point.” I nod.

I’m fucked. Because the more I talk to her, the more I’m starting to like this Nova girl.

I wonder if she will ever be willing to forgive me for locking up her Alphas, because I’d totally ask her on a date.

“Anyway, you can call off the missing persons report and tell my mother to go fuck herself,” she finishes with a beaming smile.

“It’s already been called off.” My lips twitch. “Unfortunately, that other part, we can’t do. It might be seen as unprofessional."

“Huh,” she nods. “You seem to be worried about professionalism now, but where was that a moment ago when that asshole kidnapped me and brought me here?”

“Wait, what?” I was joking before, but what the fuck did Chris do?

“You mean you didn’t order your buddy to kidnap me?” she asks, serious.

“No,” I reassure her. “He was supposed to ask you to come in for questioning.”

“Nah. He didn’t mention he was a cop until later. Not that I’d have gone with him anyway.”

“Why not?”

“Becuase there’s no reason for me to be here.” She shrugs.

“Actually there is. I’d like to know how you got here, to Georgia, I mean. It’s a long way from home.”

Her jaw grinds and I find myself dragging out this encounter. I already know I’m not going to get anything from this feisty little thing. “Like I said, I took everything I had, and I left. I wanted to start over, so I hitchhiked towards someplace warmer.”

“That's a very dangerous thing to do,” I comment, my brows furrowing together. “You’re a female Omega. What if you were kidnapped or something? Omega trafficking is something to be worried about.”

There’s this gleam in her eye that I don’t quite understand.

“You don’t need to worry about me, officer, I’m fine.

Better than fine. I was lucky that the first person to pull over and offer me a ride just so happened to be my scent matched Alphas.

They kept me safe and cared for. Seeing how I had nowhere else to go, heading back to their home state felt like a no-brainer to me. ”

“I agree.” I nod, trying not to be too blunt with the questions. “But weren’t you worried? They were strangers. They could have been criminals.”

She lifts a brow. “I guess that’s true.” She cocks her head. “Good thing they’re not, then isn’t it?”

Licking my lips, I keep going. “Did they tell you why they were so far from home? Where were they before they picked you up? What were they doing?”

Nova’s brows furrow, and I groan inwardly. Fuck. I’m not good at the interrogation part. Never have been. I should have had Chris do this part for me. Then again, I want to punch him in the nuts for the way he treated Nova so far, so maybe not.

“I fail to see how any of this is relevant to my missing persons report. Is there another reason you asked me here, Detective Davis?”

Yes. Like, are your Alphas the Mall Bandits? Did you see where they took all the shit they stole? And hey, wanna go out on a date because for some fucking reason my cock hasn’t gone down since thinking about your Alpha Nick and how I may or may not have jerked off to the thought of him in the past?

Yeah, I’m starting to see why I haven’t gotten far in this career. I’m fucked up. So damn fucked up.

Sometimes being an Omega has it’s downfalls. For me, it’s my high sex drive and my tendency to obsess over things I shouldn’t.

Because I’m not stupid enough to tell her all that, I bite my tongue and shake my head. “No,” I rasp, clearing my throat. “That’s all.”

“Then if that’s all, I’llbe going.” She gets to her feet. “I’m safe, cared for, and happy. No need to worry. If you want to tell my mother anything, tell her that. Oh, and that I hope she doesn’t like, die or something.” She waves her hand.

“Will do.” I nod.

Getting to my feet, I step around the table and open the door for her. “Have a good day, Miss Brooks. We’ll be seeing each other again, I’m sure.”

She looks at me oddly while she passes me. “How about we don’t?” she says. “I’m not a fan of cops.”

And as she turns her back to me, that's when it hits me. I smell it. Her candy cane and chocolate scent almost smothers the hint of gingerbread snickerdoodle. But not enough.

My whole body flushes, all the blood rushing to my cock as I let out a low whimper. In a panic, I step back in the room, closing the door behind me.

“No, no, no,” I whine. “This cannot be happening.”

I collapse heavily into the chair. I’m so fucked. So royally fucked.

This literally is the worst thing that could have ever happened to me.

The Alphas I’ve been trying to bring down for months, trying to get any information that would help get them locked up... yeah, well, fuck me, because one of them just so happens to be my scent match.

This changes everything. Every fucking thing. I just don’t know how exactly at this moment.

First things first, find out which Alpha it is. Maybe we can work out a plea deal. If they rat out their brothers and agree to be with me, maybe even Nova, they could avoid jail time?

Yes, I’m aware of how fucking stupid that sounds. Don’t judge me. I’m having a mental breakdown, okay?

I’m so fucked. And not in a fun way.
