Chapter 13
Nova
I wait until I’m out of the police station and down the street before I pull my phone out and call the guys.
My heart pounds in my chest as I listen to the ringing.
Not in fear, fuck that, but in anger. That asshole who snatched me up off the street to bring me here is gonna get a good kick in the fucking nuts next time I see him.
Well, maybe not physically because I’m not looking to get arrested—I’m too pretty for jail—but I’ll give him a nice verbal lashing, that's for sure.
Detective Davis knows something. I don’t know what, but I know he was trying to get me to talk about my Alphas and their... extracurricular activities.
I deserve brownie points for the lie I came up with on the spot. You would think the guys and I would have worked out a story about how we became a pack, but nope.
I guess this just proves how much it was needed.
“Joyrider,” Nick grunts, answering the phone.
“You’re not Ian,” I mutter. “What are you doing with his phone?”
“Where are you?” he demands. “You should have been back an hour ago.”
“Aww, you care,” I coo mockingly. “Well, about that. I was on my way back to the truck, when someone decided to stalk me, then snatch me off the street. FYI, it’s not at all as hot as it was when you three did it by the way.”
“What!” he roars on the other end. “You were fucking kidnapped?”
“Now you care?” I huff. “Didn’t seem to think it was a bad idea when you did it to me.”
“Nova,” he growls, low and dangerous.
“It was a slight kidnapping. Is it even really kidnapping if they brought me to a police station?”
“Police station? What the fuck are you doing there?”
“Guess dear old mom put a missing persons report out on me,” I sigh. “What a bitch! Like, girl, you were choking on my boyfriend’s cock and I didn’t like it so I left. No need to be a drama queen and get the police involved. It’s called taking responsibility for your actions.”
“Nova, I swear to god if you don’t stop talking, I’m going to gag you,” Nick warns.
A smile slips onto my lips. “Ooooh, kinky. Listen, I might be into that, but only if you let me gag you back.”
There’s cursing on the other end of the line and I can’t help but laugh.
And then the phone hangs up. “Well, that’s fucking rude.” I stare at the phone then Ian’s contact pops up again. I answer. “No need to be hanging up on me, asshole.”
“The asshole in question is on his way to pick you up,” Ian chuckles. “Wanna let me know why he’s all worked up and where you are?”
“Nick is just being a little bitch, like always.” I roll my eyes. “As for my whereabouts, the police station.”
“Damn, Little Doe. What did you do? You need us to bail you out or something? Oh! Is there a body I need to hide before they go looking?”
“No.” I smile, shaking my head because he sounded serious on that last part. “As for why I’m here,” I pause, looking around before I continue, “We’ll talk about it when I get back.”
“Are you safe?” Ian asks.
“Safe enough.”
We hang up and I stand off to the side of the parking lot, waiting for my grumpy Alpha to come save me.
A little while later, the familiar rumble of a bike has my face spitting into a wide grin.
Fuck yes, he brought the bike! I’ve been dying to have them take me for a ride on their bikes, but none of them have asked me yet.
Assholes. Like who doesn’t wanna take their girl riding?
They do in all the romance books I read.
Although I remember Ian saying how weird bikers are about letting other people touch their bikes. I believed it when I saw one of the members pull a gun on another just for bumping into his bike.
The brat in me wanted to sit on Nick’s in front of him and see what he’d do. But I’ve been playing my little ‘pick at him’ games less since he’s been so engrossed in getting the MC up and running.
I’ve missed it. It really is like a high.
My heart does this fluttering thing when I see him pulling into the parking lot. People stopping to watch him.
Yeah, that's my man. My Alpha. You can look but you’ll lose a fucking hand if you touch.
Nick heads in my direction and stops in front of me. He pulls his helmet off and locks his eyes on me. “You know,” I say over the sound of the engine, “Hanging up on your Omega is fucking rude in case you didn’t know.”
He turns the bike off. “Well, if you would just shut up for once, I wouldn't have to.”
I glare at him, flipping him off. He smirks. “Asshole.”
“Brat,” he growls. “Now, tell me, which one of these mother fuckers was daft enough to put their fucking hands on my Omega.”
My nipples harden at the possessiveness in his tone. “Mhhmm,” I hum. “Careful, Nick, your Alpha male is showing. People might actually think you like me.” I wiggle my brows.
His nostrils flare. “I tolerate you,” he grunts.
I snort a laugh, stepping up to him. I smile as I run a finger down his chest. “You may as well just piss all over me.”
“If that's your kink,” he counters. “Or I could just sink my teeth into every inch of your body.”
I shiver at the thought of him marking me. We’re not there yet. But I know it will happen eventually.
“Only if I can do it back,” I purr.
“Right here, Princess.” He taps the side of his neck. “That spot’s all yours.”
My eyes widen in surprise.
“You just have to earn it,” he growls. “Maybe if you crawl to me like a good girl and beg me like the needy little whore you are, I’ll let you.”
“Fuck off,” I scoff, pushing at him. “You fucking wish.”
“Now, tell me who?”
“Not here.” I snatch the helmet from his hands. “I don’t need you getting arrested.”
“What do you think you are doing?” he asks as I climb onto the back of the bike.
“Riding with you. You don’t think I’m gonna fucking walk back to the truck do you?”
He grumbles but grabs my arms, pulling them around his waist. “Keep your hands here,” he grunts. “If they wander, we’ll crash and we’ll both fucking die.”
“Awww, can’t help but pop a stiffy near me? I’m honored."
“Dear God, give me the fucking strength.”
“No, God, leave him be. I enjoy pissing him off.”
“Fucking brat,” he growls again before taking off. We circle around, heading back the way he came. I look over to the station and spot Detective Davis watching us. He can’t see my face through the helmet, but I give him a little wave.
His brows furrow, watching us intensely.
Yeah, this isn’t the last time I’ll see him. He knows something about my men, and he’s not going to stop until he follows through.
Over my dead fucking body will he use me to get to them, though.
As we ride down the main highway, I hold Nick tight. At first, I was going to fuck with him, but as I look out at the ocean, I smile, enjoying the beauty.
I lean my head against Nick the best I can, loving the way my body feels against his, the scent of his coconut shampoo mixing with his scent is calming.
Coconut... wait. Since when did he start using coconut shampoo? He always had this Irish Spring scent to his hair. I remember telling him that it didn’t mix well with his gingerdoodle scent.
Wait a minute, is he using my shampoo? What the heck! He better replace it.
I frown when we pull up to where the truck was left behind. “Really?” I mutter, getting off the bike.
“What?” he asks.
“You're not going to give me a ride home?” I ask, taking the helmet off and giving it back to him.
His brows furrow. “Who would drive the truck home?”
Will could have brought Ian here and he could have. Ugh, men.
I’m just pissy that I didn’t get a longer ride on the bike.
“Whatever,” I mutter. “I want another ride on your bike.”
His lips curve into a smile. “I’ll give you something better to ride, Princess.” He winks before slipping on his helmet.
How am I supposed to be mad at him when he’s making me all hot and bothered? “Now, get your ass in the truck and let’s go home.”
Home. It’s crazy how that place, and even the compound, has become my home.
I’ve never felt like I belonged anywhere. Never felt like I had a home to call mine. In my old life, sometimes I didn’t even want to go home, grateful for the extra shifts because I couldn’t stand being around my ex.
Maybe I should have taken that as a hint that we weren’t a good match. But you know, his cock down my mom’s throat really drove the point home for good.
Huh, maybe I should thank him?
“We need to come back before the weekend. I need to get more decorations for Rica’s party.”
“What happened to what you bought?”
“I popped the confetti cannon in the cop’s face then sprayed him with silly string.” I grin.
Be still my heart, this man smiles. Like a real full blown smile!
“Damn, Joyrider, you really know how to give a man a run for his money.”
“Should have kicked him in the nuts too. Next time though.”
His face goes dark again. “There won’t be a next time. If that fucker, or anyone else puts their hands on my Omega, I’ll fucking kill them.”
“Down, Daddy.” I bite my lip. “Keep talking like that, and I might just ride you on this bike right here, right now.”
A low growl rumbles in his chest. Nick grabs the front of my shirt and tugs me forward. “Watch your mouth, little Omega,” he growls. “Careful what you wish for.”
Like, is that supposed to be some kind of threat or something? Because if he wants to fuck me right now, I wouldn’t say no.
My breath catches and I know he can smell just how turned on I am right now. He groans, letting me go.
“Get in the truck, Nova.”
“Tease,” I mutter, flipping him off before getting into the truck. Thankfully, Rica’s dress is still in here.
As we head home, I can’t stop thinking about that detective. The hot one, not the asshole who kidnapped me.
I’m not sure what he wants with my Alphas, but he’s not going to get any information out of me.
Maybe he’s just doing his job, but he better be careful.
Come between me and my pack, and you will pay the price.
My men know what they’re doing, and now that they have the MC, they won’t be going down without a fight.
Before, I told them to leave me out of it because I’m not going down for their crimes. Now, I find myself wanting to fight for them, to make sure that isn’t even an option.
Plus, it’s not like they’re robbing malls anymore. I made sure to tell them that it needed to come to a stop when we decided to stay in here.
Shit, what if they know about Nick and his killing?
Nah. If they did, they would have arrested him already... right?
