Chapter Five
Okay, Claire’s friend Madison is not just hot. She is fucking fire, my friend. I absolutely must get to know her. And yes, I do mean in a biblical sense.
One thing is for certain—she’ll definitely be screaming out God’s name if I get a hold of her.
Oh, and mine too.
Yeah, I plan to rock that girl’s world.
But first I have to meet her.
And also see if we have some chemistry.
Yeah, that would be good.
I have a feeling, though, that we will.
Fuck, I’ve been thinking about her far too much. From the moment I first laid eyes on her at the season opener a couple of weeks ago, Madison has been starring in my fantasies day and night.
Because she’s been on my mind so much, I didn’t even bother hooking up with the random girl I brought to a charity event the team had us attend before we left for the road trip we’re now finishing up with.
I flirted like hell, yes, but I dropped her off after the event and didn’t even go into her apartment.
She wanted me to, let me tell you. But I lied and said I had an early morning the next day.
Hell, even over this past week and a half away from home, the guys have been fully expecting to hear about some kind of sex shenanigans from me.
Since I don’t have any, I told them a story about meeting up with and bedding an old fuck buddy of mine in one of the cities we were playing in.
I didn’t actually hook up with her, though. I didn’t see her at all. I probably could have called that old “friend,” but I just wasn’t feeling it.
Fuck, it’s that damn Madison again!
Cockblocking me, and I don’t even know her.
Okay, that’s it. I must have her at least once, if only to get her off my fucking mind and out of my head.
Shit, I’m not even acting like myself anymore.
This is bad. Really bad.
I’m never obsessed like this.
Good thing I have a plan to remedy this situation—I’m going to talk with Easton about setting me up on a date with Madison. Surely he can make that happen. After all, his new wife is her best friend.
Then I’ll be set. I can meet Madison, let the sparks fly, get her in my bed, and then move the fuck on.
Well, maybe I’ll get with her a few times.
She’s just that fucking hot.
First, though, let’s get to work on step one.
The team is heading back to Phoenix today. We’re on a chartered bus right now, on our way to the airport so we can fly back on the team jet. I’m currently sitting next to Shane, who’s had his earbuds in the whole way.
That’s fine; it’s not him I need to talk to. Easton is the target.
Unfortunately, he’s in the front row of the bus. One of our teammates was already in the seat next to him when I got on.
No worries. I’ll try to sit next to him on the plane.
Shit, we’re stopping now.
Nudging Shane, I wave my hand at his head to indicate I want to ask him something.
Once he takes out his earbuds, I say, “Hey, I’m going to sit with Easton on the plane, okay?”
He frowns and says, “Aw, man, I’m sorry I had my buds in. I was just listening to some music. I could’ve ditched them, though, if you wanted to talk.”
Man, Shane is such a nice dude.
“No, no.” I shake my head and chuckle. “All’s good. I just have something I need to ask Easton.”
He looks relieved. “Okay, that’s cool.”
My teammates and I pour out of the bus and board the plane.
Thank God no one is sitting next to Easton. I plop down beside him with a release of a breath.
“Hey, man,” he says with a welcoming nod.
“Hey.”
We engage in some small talk while the rest of our teammates board. I plan to wait until we’re in the air to bring up Madison.
It feels like forever, but eventually we take off.
As the jet climbs higher and higher, I say to Easton, “Oh, I almost forgot, I wanted to ask you something.”
He twists in his seat to face me more fully. “Sure, go ahead.”
I preface by saying, “It’s kind of a favor I need from you.”
“You name it, man. You got it.”
Hmmm, I hope he feels the same way once he hears what I want.
After blowing out a breath, I say, “It involves Claire’s friend Madison.”
Uh-oh, now he looks uncertain.
This doesn’t bode well for me.
I go ahead anyway and ask, “Would you be able to set me up with her?”
His face falls. “Aw, dude, I don’t know. I would under normal circumstances. But Claire will kill me if you fuck around with her friend and hurt her feelings or whatever.”
Okay, I can’t really promise that I won’t do exactly that. I have a reputation as a ladies’ man, and everyone knows it. Not to mention, it’s not like I’m looking for a real relationship with this chick.
So what can I really say, besides, “Okay, that’s fine. I understand. I had to ask, you know?”
“Hey, I get it,” he replies. “I wish I could help you, but I can’t.”
I’m disappointed, but what more can I do?
Easton is not going to change his mind. He wants to avoid any unnecessary trouble with his wife. I get that.
But I’m not going to give up.
I plan to meet Madison if it’s the last fucking thing I do.
In fact, it’s kind of a challenge now, one I’m up for in more ways than one.
But one thing is for certain—if when we do meet, something happens, we will definitely have to keep it on the down-low.
No way can Claire or Easton ever find out if Madison and I hook up.
