The sketch is of a doctor. Like any other, he has a stethoscope around his neck and is holding either end. It is so ubiquitous it could be posed. Stand still, Iso might have said, I’ll make a portrait.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, in the marks on the page that indicate it is her. But the doctor has stood still long enough for the artist to capture him.
It is a hospital ward, there are patients, he has work to do. Yet he stands there, his hands on his stethoscope, his gaze on the woman who is writing up notes.
