Chapter 13
Days have passed since Miles left me standing in my dressing room absolutely dumbstruck.
I realize now that I was too far into my own head about things and that I should have tried better to understand how Miles felt.
My gym sessions really assisted my understanding about how much of an idiot I was being and how hard it must be on him.
And it’s ripping me apart inside. I should have done something sooner, talked to him sooner, done anything to have made this situation turn out better.
He’s misunderstood me. And I don’t blame him.
I’m a coward, and I don’t really deserve his forgiveness.
A noise outside my door startles me, and I want to throw up when a yellow envelope slides under my door.
I approach the package carefully, my heart pounding, trying to break free.
I pick it up slowly, flip the tab, and slide out the contents.
When I read what's inside, I let go of the breath I’d been holding—just pen-revised pages of the script.
I sink into my couch and check my phone’s contact list…
I don’t even have his number. A headache grows behind my eyes, and I sigh.
I want to talk to him. Just this one time.
Tell him that I wish to get to know him better.
I know that I’m being immature and selfish, but I’ve never felt this strongly about someone before.
That if he’d give me the chance to get to know him, I’m sure I could feel something more.
But I can’t. I don’t even have his phone number, and I don’t know where he lives.
And I have to plead with my last resort and hope Joseph doesn’t try to pry too deeply.
Hey, do you have any personal info on that assistant? The one that just quit.
Why?
Does it really matter?
I guess not. I don’t have many specifics though. Here:
Contact: Miles Albrecht
Cell: +1(646)-555-1234
Address: 112 E. 63rd
I give a ‘thumbs up’ reaction to Joseph's messages. I have to see Miles now, and my body can’t wait a second longer.
I put the address into my GPS and hope for the best. The elevator eeks slowly down the shaft to the car park.
I slide into the driver’s seat, and something immediately feels off.
I look around the cabin and notice that my center console is cracked open.
An uncanny feeling creeps over me, but I brush it off quickly, my mind too preoccupied with my original goal.
