Chapter 34
Thirty-Four
“Do you think we scared her away?” I asked, cocking a brow and walking around the room toward the Vemon.
Dani laughed that angelic laugh and sat against the headboard, drawing Eros’s head in her bare lap. “Maybe,” she said. “She didn’t seem as into it as I’d hoped.” She furrowed her brows together and looked down at Eros. “Are new members usually shy?”
“You weren’t,” he said. He paused for a moment, his jaw clenching. “You got right into bed with my brother.”
She rolled her eyes. “Well, that’s because”—she locked her gaze on me—“someone had urged me to go. And I didn’t do anything with him. I just stole his soul.”
Eros chuckled. “Just stole his soul. That’s all.”
“You were going to do it. I just did it before you.” Her brows were set in an angry stare.
Eros brushed his fingers against her cheek and smiled. “I’m kidding. Settle down.”
I leaned against the dresser, watching them bicker back and forth. Dani huffed, then sighed, then relaxed when Eros stroked her horn.
I brushed a finger around the rim of my glass and took a sip. “So,” I said, “does that mean that we are …”
Eros gazed at me with curious eyes. “Are we what, Lucifer?”
I cocked a smile. “Are we … what do the humans call it? A throuple?”
Dani scrunched her nose. “God, Luci … anything but that word.”
She curled into Eros’s arm, snuggling closer to him and reaching for my hand across Eros’s body. I placed my drink down on the dresser and sat next to Eros. He gazed up at me with those heavenly eyes that I had seen so many times.
“I think he’s trying to ask if we’re official,” Dani said into his ear, drawing her fingertips down his abdomen.
“I know what I asked,” I said. “No need to clarify.”
She made a face at me, and Eros smiled at her. Then he looked at me, and his smile fell.
“Do I want to try all over again with you?” he asked.
He stared down at Dani’s fingers as if he was actually thinking about it, as if he didn’t know yet. And for once … I felt nervous.
No, the king of Pride didn’t get nervous often, but after seeing the man I had been in love with when I fell from Heaven, letting him fall with me, then spending eternity apart … Heavens … I wanted him back, but I didn’t know if he wanted me back.
I wanted him to love me again. I wanted to love him. The way we had loved in Heaven. Though sinful, though illegal, true. True love that I had never found after him … but that would all change. Hopefully.
He took a deep breath and smiled, eyes a heavenly green. “Yes,” he said. “I would like a second chance with you.”
He wanted me.
Eros wanted me.
I almost couldn’t believe it, but then … who wouldn’t want me?
I smiled at him.
He cocked his finger in my direction, cracked a smile, and said, “Come here.”
He grabbed my arm and pulled me down to him, placing a kiss on my lips. I relaxed into him, his body finally conforming to my touch. We hadn’t been together, like this, for thousands and thousands of years.
Dani cleared her throat. “And … what about me?”
He chuckled and kissed her on the lips. I lay down next to him, propped up on one elbow, and brushed my fingers against his cheek when one of Dani’s guards burst through the door.
“Sathanus’s horns hang above the Pits! They hang above the Pits!”
