Chapter 35
Thirty-Five
Dani pulled a shirt over her body and walked toward him. “What are you doing here? Why are you disrupting us?”
After bowing his head, he gazed back at her with the most sorrowful expression on his face. I furrowed my brows together, gazing between Dani and the guard, and stood up next to her.
“Commander Sathanus burns in the Tartarus, Queen,” he said, eyes glowing the lightest shade black when he looked at her and her body. “I didn’t mean to disturb you. I thought you needed to know since you had called for the meeting between all commanders that seemed urgen—”
“Sathanus is dead?” she asked, brow arched hard. She looked at me, brows scrunched. “A commander has fallen? By who?”
I rolled my eyes. “Probably accidentally fell into the Pits himself.”
The guard shook his head. “By his son.”
Dani’s eyes widened. “His son? Biast?”
“Biast Sathanus.” The guard nodded his head, and I could hear Dani’s heart drop.
She walked around the room, pushing her hands through her hair and gulping nervously.
After the guard bowed his head and walked out of the room, Dani turned to me. “Biast killed his own father. I don’t believe it. I … he hated the man … but …”
Eros tensed his jaw at the mention of his name and sat up in the bed.
I gazed at them. “What went on between them?” I asked, referring to Dani and Biast.
Something had gone on, yet I couldn’t place it. The way she had spoken to him at the party that first night, the way she had threatened to take him to bed and to suck his soul right out of his body. She had known him, and she had known him for quite some time.
“I don’t want to talk about it right now.”
Dani rushed to the door while tying a robe around her waist. “We have to talk to the other commanders. I need information. Something. Meet me in the meeting room in five minutes. The commanders should be here soon.”
She disappeared through the door, and just as I was about to follow her, Eros grabbed my wrist.
“Sathanus is dead. Two of the original seven commanders are dead. An angel has fallen. Dani told me there is a Two-Faced Prophet …” He furrowed his brows. “Be careful.”
After dressing, we walked to the meeting room, where all the other commanders were waiting. Except Dani and Sathanus. Dani hurried into the room, greeting everyone.
The Greed queen was fitted with diamonds and the finest golds. The Envy commander wore a dress stolen from the Greeds. Sloth was smoking a blunt in the corner. Gluttony was finishing off a chocolate bar.
I sat at the head of the table, and Dani sat at the other end.
She leaned forward in her dress, breasts pressing against the table. “Sathanus is dead?”
“That’s the rumor,” Greed said. “Now what is this meeting about, and why is it so urgent?”
I sat up in my chair. “Demons are rising.” I nodded to Dani. “First, the commander of Lust. Now, Biast Sathanus.” I stood up. “Angels are falling. Biast found one in Wrath about a week ago. There is a Two-Faced Prophet on the loose down in the Kingdom of Envy.”
“That means we must prepare,” Dani said.
“The beginning of the end is approaching. Faster than we all thought.”
