Chapter 133

Lucrezia

Outside The Hospital

Iran as quickly as I could in heels to the front door of the hospital.

Romeo raced to check a couple of the SUVs.

“Every one of them’s locked,” he yelled as he ran towards a third.

It made sense. When you ferried guns and drug money around Naples, you got in the habit of locking your doors.

“Let’s go,” I shouted as I pushed open the glass door.

The lobby was empty except for Mignolino, who stood over on the right. He’d herded all the civilians behind the check-in desks so he could easily keep an eye on them. They huddled on the floor in silent misery.

In his free hand, Mignolino held a cell phone like he’d just made a call.

“What the fuck were those gunshots I heard?” he demanded as we walked in.

I knew Mignolino would be there and that I’d better have a good lie ready.

My right hand clutched my .38 inside my purse, though, in case it wasn’t good enough.

“A Cosa Nostra snuck out and shot Ciro,” I said as I breezed past Mignolino, heading for the stairwell doors. “Romeo killed him.”

Mignolino looked at Romeo for confirmation.

My stomach tightened as I waited for his reply –

“Yup,” Romeo agreed, and I relaxed.

“Oh,” Mignolino said, strangely deflated. Then he barked, “Where are you two going?”

“To see my brother’s triumph,” I said with a tight smile as Romeo and I entered the stairwell.

Behind us, I could hear the screech of tires and the roar of an engine in the parking lot.

Dario Rosolini’s here.

We got inside just in time.
