Chapter 16 I Don’t Want Any More News of Him

I moved away from the tea stall.

I no longer wanted to hear anything about Lin Xi.

I didn’t dare imagine whether he had someone beautiful by his side, nor did I dare think about the child who had once been in my belly a year ago—whether it was still alive.

Chen Hu helped hang the red lanterns for my new eatery and chatted sideways, “That’s right. There are so many men—why fixate on just one?”

“Look at me. Aren’t I the very best among all those men!”

I kneaded the dough and shook my head with a small laugh. “You may be the very best one, but you’re not the one I want.”

Chen Hu’s self-recommendation failed again, but he didn’t mind.

He came every day and helped with everything when the eatery opened.

Even with the new county magistrate arriving soon, he still hadn’t pulled his heart back.

All these actions made me feel somewhat guilty.

Chen Hu slurped his noodles and made his hundred-and-first proposal. “What’s that saying again? Repay a drop of kindness with your body, right?”

But at that moment a voice I had dreamed of rang from the doorway.

“She has already promised herself to me.”

“She is mine.”
