Chapter 17 He Came

Lin Xi had arrived.

Compared to half a year ago when I secretly watched him, a sharper edge now lay between his brows.

But the way he looked at me remained gentle.

“How did you—”

“Sir, how did you come here?”

Chen Hu’s greeting covered my question. I stared at Lin Xi in shock. “Sir?”

Lin Xi nodded with perfect poise. “Mm.”

Chen Hu turned to me unwillingly. “This is the… person you mentioned?”

I saw this as the perfect chance to end his hopes and nodded firmly.

After Chen Hu left in a daze, I closed the shop door.

The man who had carried himself with such dignity just moments ago immediately buried his face in the crook of my neck, arms wrapped tightly around my waist, and called me in a pitiful voice.

“Xu Aoyao, I missed you so much…”

My heart softened, but I still needed answers. “What about Miss Gao?”

The body holding me suddenly stiffened.

A wave of grievance surged up.

“You two are so well-matched, talented and beautiful. Everyone says you’re a match made in heaven.”

“She even stewed soup for you herself…”

Lin Xi looked at me in surprise, his tone certain. “Xu Aoyao, you came to find me, didn’t you?”

I turned my head away so he wouldn’t see the tears in my eyes. “No. Who would go look for you!”

He pulled me into his arms with heartache.

But he still said, “It’s true—I was once engaged to a Miss Gao.”
