STUART
Although she repeatedly invaded my thoughts on Saturday and Sunday, I still managed to finish preparing for the meeting this morning.
As I sit in the conference room waiting for the others to arrive, I wish I’d paid attention to the floor Brooke works on.
I checked this morning and learned that there are three law firms with offices in this building.
I’d try to find her, but it’s not as if I can go from floor to floor asking if anyone knows someone named Brooke.
Even if they did, I doubt they would tell a stranger.
The frustrating part is that I didn’t even take time to notice her last name on her badge. Her first name was in an extra-large font. Unfortunately, her last name was so small that I didn’t pay attention. At the time, I just wanted to make sure she was okay.
While I told her that I slept on the sofa, I didn’t actually sleep. In reality, I sat on the sofa watching her sleep to make sure she was breathing and didn’t become sick to her stomach from the whiskey. There’s something about her that brought out the protector in me.
Maybe Lawrence can help me figure out where she works. He’s quite efficient even when he’s working remotely, like now.
I’m starting to text him when the door to the conference room swings open. Setting my phone on the table, I stand to meet Dad’s US personal relations team, which is led by Jason Randall.
He approaches, hand extended. “Lord Sandridge, welcome. We were sorry to hear your father is ill. How is he doing?”
“Better. He’s just not well enough to travel. Thank you for asking.”
“That’s good to hear. And please call me Jason. We’re glad you could be here in your father’s place.”
“I’m pleased to be representing my family on this project.”
“Let me introduce the rest of our team. This is Hannah. She’s handling the media. José oversees logistics and venues. And, finally, Art is in charge of all other aspects of promotion and marketing.”
Jason’s team is quite attentive. And, based on first appearances, they each seem well-suited for their assignments.
In her designer clothes, Hannah could easily be on camera herself.
José seems like he’s all business with his laptop open ready to take notes.
He’s dressed more casually than Hannah, but his perfectly pressed clothing suggests he cares about details.
Then there’s Art, who seems aptly named.
He has the most artistic look of the bunch.
He’s sporting platinum blond hair with blue tips, matching blue-rimmed glasses, and trendy clothing.
I nod toward them, saying, “It’s a pleasure to meet everyone. Thank you for your help with this event. It’s incredibly important to me and my family.”
Heads bob, accompanied by murmurs of acknowledgement.
Jason says, “We’ve also asked a member of the law firm that the foundation works with to join us today. Your father wanted to make sure you have counsel available throughout your stay in case any issues arise that require legal input.”
Just then I turn my head at the sound of the door opening.
“Ah. Here she is now,” Jason says.
My brows narrow in confusion. It’s Brooke. I knew she’s an attorney. However, I had no idea that she’s Dad’s attorney.
Luck is shining on me today. My mystery woman is here. What an incredibly pleasant surprise.
This meeting just became much more interesting.
