Chapter 5 Liam

“Did you leave these notes on the roster? I didn’t realise we had a clash next week.” Ayden’s voice interrupted the floating sensation Liam had been lost in, and he quickly became aware he was still splayed out on a hard surface, his cum now thoroughly soaked into his shirt.

“Hmmm?”

Ayden laughed softly. “Come here, pet. You’re not going to be comfortable there much longer.”

Liam didn’t bother helping as Ayden lifted him up from the desk before settling him so he was straddling the incubus’ lap, chest-to-chest in his chair.

He was too relaxed to move under his own steam.

Although Ayden’s tail was still a constant tease in his ass, and it was starting to make him hard again.

Oh fuck. What had he done? With his boss!

“Shhh,” Ayden’s voice rumbled above his head from where Liam had hidden his face in Ayden’s chest. Strong hands stroked down his spine.

“We shouldn’t be doing this,” Liam said.

Ayden’s stroking paused before continuing. “And why is that?”

“It’s not appropriate! What if your boss walks in?”

“My bosses are well aware of who and what I am. And as much as Gabriel tries to play all high and mighty, he’s a matchmaker at heart, especially for human soul matches.

Angels and demons are both fascinated with your kind that way.

We both need humanity specifically to thrive, whereas the other species have more options. ”

“Human what?” Liam shouted, jerking upright and immediately moaning as the tail jostled inside him, sending sparks of need to his balls. “Would you mind removing your tail from me while we have this conversation?”

“Of course.”

Liam immediately regretted his request as his body felt empty and even more needy. Also, when—and how—had he managed to lose all his clothes?

“What’s a soul match?”

“A compatible human.”

“In what sense?”

“In the sense that a mate bond would take if the supernatural decided to pursue it.”

“What’s a mate bond?” He’d read enough romance novels to have some preconceptions, but he didn’t want to assume.

“A connection that binds you for life with someone. You can feel what they feel. Find them anywhere. Some species will only have one potential mate in the world at a time, shifters especially, but most of the species that make a home in Sanctum City have more options.”

“And we’re a match?”

Ayden just raised an eyebrow before pointedly looking down at Liam’s bobbing erection that was leaking pre-cum down his length.

“I thought that was just because you’re an incubus.”

“While a certain amount of attraction is unavoidable, I’m very careful to keep my demon influence under control, especially at work.

Otherwise, the office would just be one giant orgy every day.

That’s why I wear the glasses. They stop me seeing what everyone’s fantasising about, so I don’t feel compelled to deliver it. ”

“I guess I’ll just have to take your word for that,” Liam said, vaguely embarrassed he couldn’t entirely blame his reaction on the lust demon’s powers.

Ayden clicked his tongue, and Liam’s arousal went from a simmering seven out of ten to a thousand in less than a second.

He was suddenly desperate to be fucked in any way Ayden wanted to take him.

Maybe he could just sit here on his cock forever?

The sensation cut off as quickly as it had arrived.

Liam’s mouth dropped open as he struggled to bring his brain back online.

“That’s what you would feel if I lost control. Believe me now? Let me take care of that for you,” Ayden said, sliding his hands down to Liam’s thighs and towards his erection.

“No.” Why was he saying no when every cell in his body was screaming yes? Just to see if Arden would listen?

The demon immediately stopped, raising his hands in the air in surrender. “As you wish. The shower is over there.”

Liam forced his reluctant body to rise, shuffling to the ensuite bathroom rather awkwardly as his hard cock bobbed ahead of him, feeling like the slightest breeze would have him climaxing all over the floor.

He managed to get the water on and heating up before he touched himself.

Barely. He came before his hand had managed a single stroke, almost blacking out from the pleasure.

Quickly washing up, he found a neat pile of his clothes on a stool in the bathroom when he emerged. How had Ayden snuck in without him noticing? And where had he got his clothes from? Ugh. Portalling.

“Boundaries, Ayden! You can’t just let yourself into my apartment,” Liam snapped as he stepped back into the office.

Ayden glanced up from where he was talking to another demon standing in front of his desk.

Liam panicked for a moment as he remembered what he’d just done there, but there was no sign of the mess he’d made.

Ayden must’ve cleaned up quickly. The demon in question was twice his height, with bright red skin and large, curling horns. He was also watching him with a smirk.

“He’s cute,” the demon said to Ayden.

“He’s standing right fucking here,” Liam snapped, striding closer.

“You’re hangry, pet. Come eat something,” Ayden said, patting his lap.

Liam ignored his invitation but snatched up the plate on offer regardless to take it back to his desk.

Someone had left a folder there labelled contract addendum.

He flicked it open with one hand as he took a bite of the sandwich Ayden had made him.

The one that somehow had all his favourite ingredients.

He choked on a crumb as he scanned down a list of checkboxes.

A flash of red in his periphery was followed by a too-heavy hand patting his back as he continued choking. Putting the sandwich down, Liam pushed the demon who was leaning too close away, his hand brushing against his sweeping horns by accident.

“I’m fine,” he rasped, clearing his throat.

The demon moaned in unmistakable pleasure, and Liam froze.

“That will be all, Az,” Ayden snapped, dragging the bigger man away and shoving him through the fiery portal that had suddenly appeared in the room. The peals of the other demon’s sudden laughter cut off as the portal snapped closed behind him.

“What just happened?” Liam asked.

“Demon horns are sensitive, pet. Just like our tails.”

Liam craned his neck from where he was sitting to peer up at Ayden. “I feel like I’m stuck in a fever dream. A sexy one.”

“Perils of working in a department of demons. That’s what the list’s for,” Ayden said, pointing down at the paper.

“It’s a list of kinks.”

“Consent can be a little challenging for my kind when just existing in our vicinity makes you overcome with lust. This will help make sure I don’t overstep any more boundaries. Fill it in at home, where I won’t distract you as much.”

“You’re assuming I want to fuck you at all.”

Ayden just smirked and opened another portal. “Off you go.”

Sweeping the contract off the desk, Liam strode through it, finding himself outside his apartment building. Apparently, his boss had taken his request literally when he’d told him not to let himself into his apartment, even if it was just letting a portal into it. That was kind of sweet.

The same orc from the weekend was coming out of the building as he stood there regaining his bearings after the disorientation of suddenly being elsewhere.

“Hi, human!”

“It’s Liam,” he said, doing his best not to grump at his cheery neighbour but getting a bit sick of being called his species.

“Nice to meet you again! I’m Moss!”

“Hi.”

“I was just going out to grab a coffee. Do you want to join me?”

Liam looked down at the folder in his hand that felt like a bomb he needed to disarm, and then back at the hulking orc with the friendly smile. “Ah, sure.”

“Yay! I just knew we were going to be best friends after Ayden moved Rhys upstairs to make room for you. I’ll be the best girlfriend you’ve ever had!”

Liam had been trailing along behind the orc as she made her way down a side street towards the nearby bakery he hadn’t had a chance to try out yet, and it took him a moment to process everything she’d just said.

“Wait, what? Who’s Rhys, and why did Ayden move them? And you mean girlfriend in a platonic sense, right?”

Moss’s laughter didn’t sound anything like he expected from a six-foot-five, green-skinned, muscular, and tusked woman, but he was learning he really needed to stop making assumptions. It was tinkling and contagious, dragging a reluctant smile from him despite himself.

“Of course, platonically, silly. My mate and I are monogamous. You should come for dinner and meet her! We could play board games! Do you like board games? Maybe we could do it every Tuesday. Or whatever day works. Do you want hot chocolate? I know I said coffee, but it’s way too late in the day for that. My treat.”

Liam was surprised to feel tears forming in his eyes as she chattered away.

Somehow, he managed to nod his agreement to the chaotic ball of golden retriever energy who was apparently now his best friend.

It had been so long since anyone wanted him around.

It felt nice. Moss shepherded him to a booth by the window as they waited for their order.

“So, what were you saying about this Rhys person?” Liam asked.

“Oh, he used to live in your apartment. He was nice enough, but I knew as soon as Ayden started pulling strings, it was going to mean good things for us.”

“But you said platonically, right? Isn’t Ayden a sex demon?”

“That’s a common misconception, actually.

Not helped by everyone referring to them as lust demons.

It just has a better ring to it than desire demon or need demon, you know?

Everyone loves to have an incubus in their lives because they just instinctively know what you need to be fulfilled and can’t help but give it to you.

Half the time, they don’t even know they’re doing it.

Not just sex stuff. Anything. I was feeling lonely, and I bet you were, too.

Ayden must’ve known we’d be just what each other needed. ”

Liam sat back on the bench seat as their hot chocolates were placed in front of them, processing her words. It put his last few days in a very different light. It also explained how Ayden had managed to deliver him his perfect sandwich for lunch without asking.

“That seems kind of like everyone just wants to use them. Who gives them what they need?”

Moss’s face lit up. “See! That’s why we’re going to be great friends!

You’re so nice. Incubi feed off the desire around them, so they do get something out of it, but I always feel a little sad for the ones who haven’t found a soul match yet.

From what I understand, lust and sex are the easiest energies to absorb when you don’t have a bond with someone, but with the right person, they can feed on all sorts of things.

Like being forced to only eat ice cream for every meal until you can finally branch out. Imagine not getting to eat cheese?”

“Yeah, it seems like maybe feeding on lust isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ayden said that consent can be tricky.”

Moss nodded. “If you’re within a certain radius of them and they’re not locking themselves down tight, you want them. It often doesn’t even occur to people to say no. And incubus instincts can be so strong they don’t really get a chance to consent either.”

The folder on the table seemed so much more important now.

With his newfound knowledge, Liam took the time to fill in the checklist carefully once he got home, noting the additional safeguard listed at the end—pick a colour shirt to wear if you don’t want to engage in a sexual act during the day because a safe word is no use if your mind is fogged by demon power and consent needs to happen before you’re under the influence.

He picked white, a colour he seldom wore.

Did he even own a white shirt right now? He’d have to check.

He also printed an additional blank copy of the list and dropped it on Ayden’s desk the next morning, along with his completed answers and a coffee with caramel syrup for his boss.

He’d managed to extract Ayden’s preferred order from the Monster Mercenaries’ vampire receptionist, who had the convenient trick of being able to read people’s surface-level thoughts.

A fact Liam had discovered this morning when he’d been greeted with a somewhat mortifying: “Get it, girl! Not sure why you bothered wearing any clothes at all!”
