CHAPTER SEVEN

EZRA

M aylee had left ten minutes ago to go back home. Ezra hadn’t wanted her to go, but she needed to because she had work in the morning, and so did he. Everything in him wanted to ask her to stay the night, and he would take her to work, but he knew she wouldn’t want that.

It was too soon.

The night had been overwhelming for her and he needed to take it slow. No matter how much he wanted to show her everything, he had to be patient. She was new to all of this, and he didn’t want to scare her away.

After he changed her diaper, they had snuggled for an hour before he helped her out of the diaper and got her to her car.

Ezra checked his phone. She should have been home by now and she should have texted him.

Ezra

Did you get home safely?

He waited for her to reply. Normally, she had her phone on her, so it didn’t take her long to reply, but this time it was different. A minute went by, and she hadn’t replied. Was she okay? Had something happened?

If only they still shared locations, but they had stopped after she broke up with him. He had brought it up when he returned from deployment, but she had brushed it off and the subject had never come back up.

That was going to change. The next time he saw her in person he was going to make sure they shared locations again. He would have to talk to her first, but it was going to happen.

With no reply, he called her. Her phone rang and rang before going to voicemail. Had she been involved in a car accident, and she was on the side of the road? There were twenty different ways she could get to her house from his. What if he went and searched, but was too late?

Ezra called her yet again.

“Hello?” She sounded out of breath.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. Why?”

“Maylee! Are you home? Are you stuck on the side of the road and need help? Where are you? And I’ll come out and help.”

His heart was beating fast. He didn’t like the thought of her being on the side of the road in the dark. Ezra shouldn’t have let her drive home .

“Yeah, I’m home. I’m safe,” she replied. “Take a deep breath, will you?”

“Maylee! You forgot to text me. I was worried you were on the side of the road, hurt.”

“Sorry,” she whispered. “I just got caught up in making myself a little snackie and forgot to text you.”

Ezra took a deep breath. Him yelling and getting upset wasn’t going to make the situation better. “It’s okay,” he replied gently. “Was the drive back to your house uneventful?”

“Yeah, no traffic at all. You know at this time of night no one is out.”

No one but bad people, but she didn’t need to know that. Deadwood wasn’t fully safe. There were men who came out at night and raided places. This We’ll Defend Security and the police department were trying to figure out who it was, but they weren’t having any luck so far.

“Good. What are you having for a snackie?” he asked.

“Two cookies and milk!”

“That’s not the best snackie before bed, but I’m proud of you for eating and drinking something before you go to bed. We’ll talk about healthier snackies before you go to bed, at a later date.”

“You can’t do anything about it.”

“We’ll see about that.”

Maylee went silent. Everything in him wanted to know what she was thinking. He wished she would talk through it all, not hold anything back, but she needed time to process everything.

“Lee?” he gently asked .

“Yeah?”

“I want you to think about everything. Can you do that for me?”

“Yeah, I can.”

“Good girl. We can continue to do it at my house, or we can do it at your house the next time. I said twice a week before, but if you want it to be more, you let me know. It can be as much as you want.”

“Okay.”

“Good girl.”

He loved the way she reacted to him calling her that. The first time he said it was a mistake, but seeing her react made him want to continue. And he had.

“If things get to be too much, you say your safeword. No matter what situation, even if we aren’t playing, and things get to be too much, you say your safeword, and we’ll talk about everything.”

“Okay.”

Ezra didn’t like her giving him one-word answers. He wanted her to talk to him, but she obviously had a lot on her mind. She was processing everything, and she had a right to.

“Don’t stay up too late. You’ve got work in the morning.”

Maylee whined. “I’m gonna stay up however late I want to.”

“You will not. If I find out you did, your bottom will be toast.”

“Fine. You know I can’t stay up late anyways.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Bye Ezzy.”
