Chapter 26

KENSEY

The ride back to the hotel was a blur of his fingers tracing lazy circles on my thigh. By the time we reached the suite, my pulse was hammering.

The last couple of hours had been the sweetest foreplay.

I liked the downtime with him. I liked seeing new things with him.

He was the one person I wanted to see the world with.

He knew how to make it all better. Humor at the right time.

Serious when it was called for. Reverent and expressed the appropriate amount of awe.

Drew closed the door behind us and pulled me against him.

His mouth crashed into mine, hungry and urgent, hands sliding under my shirt to find bare skin.

I kissed him back just as fiercely, tugging at his polo until he yanked it over his head.

We stumbled toward the bedroom, shedding clothes with impatient hands—my top, his jeans, my bra landing somewhere near the couch.

I pulled him down onto the bed with me, our mouths fused and tongues tangling.

Heat flared everywhere we touched. I shoved at his shoulders until he rolled onto his back.

I straddled his thighs and kissed my way down his chest, tasting salt and feeling the muscles twitch under my lips.

His breath hitched when I nipped at his stomach.

I kept going lower, dragging my nails lightly along his sides, until I was kneeling between his spread legs.

He was already hard, thick and flushed, the head glistening. I wrapped my hand around the base and stroked once, loving the way his hips jerked.

“Kensey,” he groaned, the sound rough.

I leaned in and licked a stripe up the underside, then circled the crown with my tongue, savoring the clean, salty taste of him. He tasted like everything I’d been craving since the office.

I took him into my mouth, hollowing my cheeks as I slid down, inch by inch, until I couldn’t take any more. His fingers threaded through my hair. I moaned low in my throat. The vibration earned another curse from him.

I worked him with slow, deliberate bobs of my head, cupping his balls and rolling them gently. The velvety steel rod throbbed. I swirled my tongue on every upstroke, teasing the slit, then took him deeper until my eyes watered and my throat tightened.

“Fuck, baby,” he rasped, fingers tightening in my hair. “Just like that.”

His thighs flexed. I picked up the pace, sucking harder as I pumped him.

Every groan, every twitch of his abs, every time he whispered my name, it spurred me on.

I could feel how close he was. His breathing was ragged with his hips starting to thrust. I hummed again and took him to the back of my throat.

He pulled me off him, practically tossing me onto the bed. He was breathing hard, stumbling as he reached for his overnight bag. I wiped my mouth and watched as he fumbled with the condom.

His hands were shaking. I slid off the bed and walked to him, taking the condom and opening it.

“You have me so fucking hot,” he murmured.

I rolled the condom on and he grunted at my touch. His gaze locked on mine and he looked feral.

“I can’t control myself around you,” he said in a raspy voice.

I dropped onto the bed, welcoming him. “Then go wild.”

With a growl, he pounced on the bed and pushed inside me in one deep thrust that stole my breath. I cried out, wrapping my legs around his waist, pulling him closer.

His palms cupped my breasts, thumbs brushing my nipples before his mouth clamped down. His teeth scraped against my sensitive flesh and his hips rocked into me. I groaned, my body sliding up the bed several inches.

He pulled out, rolled onto his back, and dragged me on top of him. I straddled his waist without hesitation, sinking down onto his length in one slow glide that stretched me wide. His hands clamped onto my hips, guiding me as I rode him, finding a rhythm that made us both groan.

I planted my palms on his chest, feeling his heart galloping. He thrust up to meet every roll of my hips. One hand reached up and massaged my breast. His eyes locked on mine with raw hunger. I looked right back at him and stared straight into his soul. I saw his love for me.

I came with a broken cry, my walls pulsing around him. He followed seconds later, hips jerking as he buried himself deep, my name torn from his throat.

I collapsed forward onto his chest, both of us slick with sweat, hearts racing in sync. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close as the aftershocks faded. I pressed a kiss to his collarbone and then his neck. The scent of his cologne still lingered there and I breathed it in greedily.

“Damn,” he said. “If I had known sex was this good with you, I would have made a move on you sooner.”

I giggled and slapped at his chest. “I did tell you I was in a good in bed.”

“That’s right, you did. I’m choosing to pretend that never happened. I’m the only one you’ve ever been with.”

I smiled. “Of course. Yes. And you’ve never been with another woman.”

“Good. We have an understanding.”

Later, I stretched out on the bed, naked and boneless, listening to the shower run in the bathroom. My body hummed with satisfaction. The sheets were twisted around my legs, half-hanging off the mattress. I didn’t care. I felt too good to care about anything.

I reached for my phone on the nightstand, thinking I’d check the time. Maybe order room service. Something decadent. Chocolate cake. Champagne. Strawberries. Why not?

The email notification sat at the top of my screen.

From: Westfield Preparatory Academy

Subject: Fall Semester Update

I opened it without thinking. Just habit. Teacher mode kicking in automatically. It was a message about the coming school year. Dates for the first faculty meeting. First day of school. Six weeks until I had to be back in New Jersey, standing in front of a classroom again.

Reality crashed over me like a bucket of ice water.

I’d been living in a bubble. Playing house in Drew’s Malibu mansion. Pretending this was my life. The private jets and fancy hotels and afternoons spent browsing bookstores like we had all the time in the world.

But we didn’t have all the time in the world.

I had six weeks. Less than that, really, if I was being honest with myself.

I should leave at the end of July to give myself time to prep.

To get my classroom ready. To transition back into my actual life instead of this fantasy I’d been living.

Five weeks. Maybe. Five weeks wasn’t enough. It would never be enough.

The shower cut off. I heard Drew moving around in the bathroom, probably toweling off. He’d walk out any second looking stupidly handsome with water still clinging to his shoulders and that satisfied smile on his face.

I locked my phone and tossed it back on the nightstand like it had burned me. I was not thinking about that right now.

The bathroom door opened. Steam billowed out ahead of him. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and another in his hands, running it through his wet hair. Water droplets traced paths down his chest. His skin was flushed from the heat.

Good god. It was not fair. How was I supposed to walk away from that? How was he not married? Oh yeah, because he didn’t want to be.

“Hey,” he said, grinning when he saw me still sprawled on the bed. “You look like a very satisfied woman.”

I forced a smile. “I wonder why.”

“I’m starving. We should order room service.”

“We stuffed our faces.”

“And we worked it off,” he replied. “Twice. And that was hours ago. We have the rest of the night. I plan on taking full advantage of it.”

“You just showered.” I should tell him about the email. About the dates. About the fact that our summer had an actual, concrete deadline that was racing toward us faster than either of us wanted to acknowledge.

But I didn’t want to ruin this. Not tonight. Reality could wait. It would still be there in the morning.

“Room service it is,” I said. “What are we having?”

“Anything you want. All of it.” He sat on the edge of the bed and reached for the room service menu on the nightstand. “What do you want?”

All of it, I thought. I want everything you have to give me and for this to never end.

“Surprise me,” I said.

He glanced at me over the menu, eyebrows raised. “That’s a dangerous game.”

“I trust you.”

He smiled. “That’s even more dangerous.”

Drew picked up the hotel phone and ordered. I watched him, memorizing the way he looked right now. Relaxed. Happy. Mine.

I was going to memorize it all. The way he laughed. The sound of his voice when he first woke up. The way he looked at me like I was the only person in the room. I didn’t hear his order, too lost in my own thoughts.

Drew hung up the phone and turned back to me. “Thirty minutes.”

“What did you get?”

“You said surprise you.” He crawled back onto the bed, still wearing just the towel. “I’m going to make very good use of thirty minutes.”

I laughed as he pulled me down onto the mattress, the sheet tangling around us. I kissed him and pushed the email out of my mind.
