Chapter Nine
They could barely keep their hands off each other as they drove to his house. Once parked in the garage, they threw the doors open, stepped out, and walked to the door to enter the laundry room then into the kitchen.
Patsy turned around and pulled at his T-shirt to lift it off over his head. His hands went to the bottom of hers and lifted it off. They tossed them to the floor and Micah walked her backwards toward the hallway with their lips clinging to each other’s.
Her fingers went to his belt buckle.
“Wait, wait,” Micah said as he sat down on the sofa and pulled his boots off. She quickly straddled him.
“I can’t wait.” She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him with all the passion she felt.
“If I don’t get my boots off, we’re going to end up on the floor,” Micah said laughing.
“I’ll take you anywhere,” she whispered against his lips then she sat up. “You know, I could get some edible underwear. ”
A wicked grin lifted his sexy mouth as he stared at her. “It’s not your underwear I’m interested in eating.”
A gasp escaped her lips. “Agent Turner, you are one bad boy.”
“Oh, sweetheart, you have no idea.”
His hands moved up her back to the clasp of her bra. He unhooked it and her breasts fell free then he leaned forward, took a nipple into his mouth, and sucked.
She combed her fingers into his hair, feeling the silky strands sift through her fingers. She wrapped her arms around him when he stood and carried her to the bedroom. They fell onto the bed. He rubbed his crotch against the juncture of her thighs, the friction making her gasp.
“God, you feel so good, Micah, so fucking good,” she whispered into his ear then took the lobe into her mouth and sucked on it.
“Shit, Patsy, stop or it’s going to be over before it begins. I’m not sure I can wait as it is.”
“Don’t wait. I’m so hot for you I feel like I’m going to burst into flames.”
Micah pulled away from her making her whimper but he unsnapped her jeans, lowered the zipper, moved to the bottom of the bed and pulled her boots off, and then tugged her jeans and panties off. He tossed them to the floor and leaned over her to press his lips to hers. His hand moved to between her legs where he ran a finger along her slit .
“You’re not kidding. You’re so wet, baby.”
“Just fuck me, would you?”
Micah burst out laughing. “What a lady.”
He unbuttoned his jeans and lowered the zipper then pushed his jeans and boxer briefs down. He flipped her to her stomach then pulled her closer to the edge of the bed. Lifting her onto her knees, he entered her in one hard thrust.
Patsy gasped but pushed back against him. Her hands clutched the blanket on the bed as she lifted herself up to all fours. Micah’s hands were on her hips as he thrust in, pulled out, and thrust into her again and again. One hand left her hip and moved to her clitoris. Moving his finger against her, she bit her lip as her belly fluttered and her orgasm rushed over her. She groaned out his name then Micah put his hand against her back and pushed her down as he slammed into her until she heard him groan out her name and felt him throbbing inside her then he fell on top of her. She tried to catch her breath but with him on top of her, it wasn’t easy.
“Could you please get off me so I can breathe? I’d hate the paramedics to see me in this position if I die.”
Micah chuckled and rolled off her. “Sorry. You okay?”
She nodded then realized he probably wasn’t looking at her so missed it as she could hear him trying to catch his breath too .
“Yes, wonderful. You?”
“Uh, huh.”
“I need to take a nice hot bath now.” She rolled to her back. “Join me?”
“Not this time. You go relax. I’ll wash off then I have some files I want to look over.”
“I thought you were on vacation?”
“I am, but it’s a working vacation. I still want to look into some things on Melbourne.”
Patsy nodded then stood and entered the bathroom. She turned the water on in the tub. She’d been hoping he’d get into the tub with her, but it didn’t look like that was going to happen. He was too interested in working. It had probably been hard on him to be away from working on the case because he needed to find out all he could about the man or men after her. Blinking back tears, she knew it was silly to be upset that he wanted to work. He was protecting her but once they apprehended who was after her, she would have no reason to stay here with Micah.
Choking back a sob, she dreaded the day she would leave here and probably never see him again. How would she ever be able to go through her life and never have him again? She’d never been more into a man. Her sex life would be boring without Micah because there was no way another man could ever make her feel like he did. In or out of bed. But she knew she couldn’t stay with him. The thought of him getting hurt or worse terrified her, and she’d never ask him to give it up for her. Not that he’d ever given any indication that he would, but she’d never ask him to do that.
She about jumped out of her skin when the door suddenly opened. Micah leaned against the doorjamb, folded his arms, and stared at her. She quickly wiped her cheeks. Her eyes traveled down over his broad chest to his sweatpants covered crotch.
What is with you that you can’t keep your eyes off his crotch, Patsy?
“My eyes are up here, pixie,” he said, and she could hear the laughter in his voice.
“I’m not interested in your eyes right now, Agent Turner.”
Micah pushed his sweatpants down and walked to her. “I decided a bath sounded too good to pass up.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” She smiled and stepped into the water then scooched forward for him to step in behind her. His arms wrapped around her as he put his chin on her shoulder.
“The water feels good after the ride today.”
“Yes. I had a good time today. I enjoyed getting out of the house for a while. Thank you,” she said feeling him nod. “Oh, do you think you can you take me somewhere I can get some things tomorrow?”
“Sure. There’s a shopping mall down the road. ”
“That’ll be fine.” She sighed and leaned her head back against his shoulder then smiled when he kissed her temple.
The next day, she and Micah walked to the Tahoe parked outside of the garage to take her shopping.
“Why couldn’t we take the Vette?”
“Because I need to pick up some groceries and there’s not a lot of room in the Vette.”
“Oh, true. When will you take me for a ride in it?”
“It’s supposed to be nice tomorrow, upper fifties and sunny so we’ll take a nice ride.”
“Great and you’ll let me drive it?” Patsy laughed at the look he sent her.
“Can you drive a manual?”
“No.”
“Oh, gee too bad…the Vette’s a straight stick.”
She reached over and punched his arm making him laugh. “You’re not funny.”
“Sure I am.”
Micah drove into a parking lot and parked. They both exited the vehicle then walked inside. The store was crowded but she stayed close by Micah’s side. She did notice her being with him didn’t stop women from looking at him. His jeans were faded and cupped his sex and butt. On his feet were his cowboy boots. He looked hot so she understood their attraction to him.
They walked down the aisles and Patsy picked out what she needed while Micah piled food into the cart as she pushed it. Soon they were on their way back to the house. She started getting anxious when she noticed Micah kept glancing in the mirrors.
“What’s wrong?” Patsy asked feeling her back tense.
“Nothing…just keeping an eye out.”
****
Micah pushed the button above his visor to open the garage door. It slowly opened and he pulled to a stop to wait for the door to roll all the way up. Just as he reached to open the driver’s door to get out, the back window of the Tahoe shattered at the same instant he heard the shot. Instinct had him getting his weapon from the center console.
“Get down,” he yelled and glanced over to see Patsy cowering. “Once you get a chance, run inside and I’ll close the garage door. Are you ready?”
She nodded. He looked around him then yelled. “Go!”
“What about you?”
“Don’t worry about me…just go, Patsy.”
Looking over to Patsy, he saw her opening her door and stepping out. Gunfire sounded, and he ducked as bullets hit the Tahoe. He never had a chance to run for the door as shots whipped over his head. He slipped from his seat then crawled toward the front of the SUV but more shots rang out again, and he had to duck. He heard Patsy scream. When he looked up, he saw her grabbed and dragged out of the garage by Melbourne.
Damn it! He should have pushed that remote as soon as she got out of the Tahoe. She would have made it inside. Micah moved to run after them, but Melbourne continued to shoot at him as he dragged her along using her as a shield. Micah got to his feet to see Melbourne dragging her to a black car sitting across the street.
“Shit,” Micah muttered as more bullets hit the house.
He watched helplessly as Melbourne stuffed Patsy into the car before quickly climbing behind the wheel. The vehicle tore off down the street with a squeal from the tires.
Micah pulled his cell phone from his pocket and called Coby as he reached into the Tahoe, grabbed his vest then ran to his Vette and quickly climbed in, hit the garage door opener, started the car, and shifted into Reverse. The tires spun with a squeal as he backed out of the driveway.
“The son of a bitch has her. He ambushed us just outside of the garage. I never should have taken her out of the house. The one fucking day no agents are outside, Melbourne makes his move,” he yelled into his cell phone as he shifted the gear into First, spun the tires again, making the car fishtail, and tore off after Melbourne. He could see the vehicle ahead of him .
“He’s probably been watching for a while now, Micah. Tell me where you are and we’re on the way,” Coby told him.
“Right now, I’m heading down my street. The bastard was waiting for us. I think he waited and when I pulled the Tahoe up to the garage and opened the door for us to go in, he made his move. I don’t really care right now. He had a car sitting across the street and I didn’t even notice it. Fuck! If I hadn’t taken her out, then Weber and Jewell would have been here. I told them to take the day off.”
“It happens, Micah. Keep him in your sight. Can you make out the tags?”
“No, I’m not close enough but he’s heading for the Interstate to go east.”
“All right, we’re leaving the office now. We’ll catch up and in the meantime, I’ll call local law enforcement. Hang in there.” Coby disconnected the call.
“Hang in there, my ass,” Micah muttered as he sped after the car.
How had he missed seeing that car? He was more astute than that. It was because when he was with her , and he couldn’t think of anything else. She meant too much to him and now because he hadn’t been on his guard, Melbourne had her. Damn it! He was falling for her and it put him off his game. Besides, he knew he just couldn’t do it. He can’t fall for her. She’d go back to Dry River and he’d stay here. If he got her back .
“Oh, I will definitely get her back even if I have to kill Melbourne to do it.”
Shifting into Fourth gear, he picked up speed as he followed them up the ramp onto the Interstate. There was no way that car could outrun his Vette, but he had to stay back so he wouldn’t put Patsy in danger. Shifting to Fifth then Sixth, he weaved in and out of traffic keeping his eye on the car.
****
“Where are you taking me?” Patsy asked her abductor.
“Just don’t you worry about it, you’ll see when we get there.” Melbourne glanced over to her then back to the road. “White didn’t tell me what a nice piece of ass you are.”
“Fuck you,” Patsy spat leaning closer to the door.
“I just might let you.” Melbourne laughed.
“In your dreams, jackass, I’d rather die first.”
“That can be arranged. You sure don’t seem to mind fucking that FBI agent.”
She bit her lip to keep from gasping. How did he know? Mentally shaking her head, she knew he was just guessing and saying it to upset her but she refused to let him.
“You’re right, I didn’t mind. He’s very good in bed. Something you’re probably not.”
“Want to find out?”
“Like I said, I’d rather die first. ”
Melbourne chuckled. “We’ll see. Maybe I’ll make you beg for your life first. Then I’ll fuck you.”
She laughed to cover her fear. “What a charmer. You probably don’t get much action talking like that.”
“Shut up,” he shouted.
“Oooh, did I hit a nerve?” She gasped in an exaggerated manner. “Are you a virgin?”
She screamed when he reached over and grabbed her ponytail. She scratched his arm making him let go.
“You’re a bitch.”
“Oh, definitely a virgin. Most men call women bitches or lesbians when they get turned down.”
Melbourne glanced in the mirror as he entered the Interstate.
“As soon as I get you to the warehouse, I’ll show you how much of a virgin I am. I’m getting hard just thinking of fucking you.”
“Really? I can’t tell. You must have a very little dick.”
“ Shut up!”
Patsy chuckled when all she really wanted to do was throw up. Turning in the seat, she looked back but didn’t see Micah coming after them. Where was he? She was terrified of this…pig beside her but she wasn’t going to let him know it.
“You don’t need to look back there, he ain’t following.” Melbourne laughed. “He doesn’t care about you. Maybe you weren’t such a great piece of ass after all. ”
She couldn’t believe Micah wasn’t following them. Then she saw it. The black Corvette whipping in and out of traffic but staying back far enough not to be made. Melbourne probably figured Micah would be after them in his Tahoe.
She shrugged. “Maybe I wasn’t…but he sure was. Damn the man is so hot. He has a body that just won’t quit. He’s really hung too, unlike you.”
She glanced at his crotch when he looked over to her.
Melbourne whipped the car off an exit and drove to a side street. She kept her eyes in the side mirror and mentally sighed when she saw the Vette following. But when Melbourne quickly drove into an alley she panicked when she saw Micah drive past. Hell! The car stopped close to a chain link fence and Melbourne threw the gear into Park then looked over to her.
“Get out,” he muttered.
Patsy took a deep breath and opened the door but stopped when he grabbed her arm.
“Don’t even think of running or I’ll blow your head off.”
“Why are you keeping me alive anyway? I know White wants me dead.”
“Of course, he does but I want to spend some time with you first. He told me I could do whatever I wanted before I killed you.” He leaned toward her.
Patsy waved her hand and grimaced .
“Anyone ever tell you your breath smells like you’ve been chewing dog shit?”
She wasn’t ready for the slap that came in response, and it made her dizzy. Taking a deep breath, she narrowed her eyes at him.
“A man who hits a woman is no man.”
“Really? Well, I’m about to show you how much I’m a man. Get the fuck over here. I think you’ll try to run, and I’d hate to kill you before I get to fuck you.”
Opening the door, Melbourne dragged her across the seat then pulled her out. She stared at the warehouse. Is this where she would die? Before she had a chance to tell Micah she loved him. Choking back a sob, she refused to let this asshole see her cry. He kept a hold of her and pulled her around the car then led her toward the warehouse. He held onto her arm as he turned a doorknob, pushed the door open then led her inside, and shoved the door closed.
Patsy glanced around and wrinkled her nose at the musty smell. This was where she was going to die, after this jerk had his way with her. She shuddered. Why hadn’t Micah seen them pull into the alley? Both she and Melbourne spun around when the door burst open. Micah stepped in with his weapon raised.
****
“FBI, freeze,” Micah yelled as he stood inside the door. His blood ran cold when Melbourne pulled Patsy in front of him to shield himself. “I will shoot you! ”
Melbourne put the gun to her temple. Motherfucker.
Micah widened his stance then stood stock still and stared at them. His heart was beating overtime but it wasn’t from running, it was seeing Patsy being held by this son of a bitch. He kept his weapon aimed at Melbourne.
“If you want to get out of this alive, you’ll let her go,” he said as he stared at Melbourne.
Seeing the bastard’s damn arm wrapped around her neck had him seeing red.
Melbourne laughed. “I will get out of this alive. I have her. I plan to spend a little time with this sweet piece of ass before I kill her.”
Micah clenched his jaw. “Over my dead body.”
“Oh, I think that can be arranged. I have no problem killing an FBI agent.”
“I don’t get you, Melbourne. You only have petty crimes on your record but now you’ll go to prison…or your grave,” Micah sneered.
“Money talks, Turner. By the looks of it, you’ve never had to worry about not having any.” He shrugged. “Now I won’t either.”
“Can’t spend it, if you’re in prison…or dead.”
“Micah please let him take me wherever he intends to. I don’t want to see you hurt.”
“Aww, how fucking sweet,” Melbourne said with a sneer .
“Not happening, pixie. This son of a bitch is not going anywhere, with or without you. Now, put the gun down, Melbourne.”
Melbourne pressed the gun harder against her temple and Micah saw her wince. Damn it. He had to get him to put the gun down.
“I will kill her right here.”
“Seriously? Just what makes you think you’ll get out of here if you kill her?”
Melbourne frowned, and Micah knew the thought hadn’t occurred to the idiot. He stood in his stance and never took his eyes or his weapon off him. Not even to look at Patsy. He already knew she was scared.
“I want you to put your weapon down or I will kill her right now. You can’t take the chance I won’t,” Melbourne hissed.
Shit! The man wasn’t as stupid as he looked. Micah sucked in a deep breath and tried to see where he could shoot the man and not hit Patsy. When Melbourne gave him a grin, he knew what he was going to do, and tried to prepare himself. Melbourne quickly aimed his gun at him and fired three times, each shot hitting him and knocking him back until he fell to the ground. He heard Patsy scream out his name then he heard another shot and Patsy was on her knees beside him.
“Micah,” she cried out in a shaky voice.
“I’ll be all right,” he said but felt lightheaded .
“Turner? Shit. We’re going to need an ambulance,” another male voice said.
Micah looked up to see Agent Marvin Carver talking into his cell phone then he closed his eyes.
“Micah, hang on,” he heard Coby’s voice but it sounded a bit too far away.
“Did you get him?” Micah slurred out.
“Carver did. Melbourne’s dead. Two shots hit you in the vest but the other one got you in the shoulder between your arm and vest. Ambulance should be here soon.”
He nodded but couldn’t seem to keep his eyes open. He knew he was losing blood. He felt Patsy take his hand and could hear her crying.
“I’ll be fine, pixie. Just a flesh wound.”
“Where is that damn ambulance? He’s bleeding out,” Micah heard Coby yell and that was not good news.
“He shot you three times,” Patsy told him as if she needed to remind him.
“Patsy...” Damn, Micah could feel himself losing consciousness.
****
“Micah?” Patsy looked up at Coby needing to know Micah was going to be all right but she was scared.
“Ambulance is here. The sooner he gets to the hospital, the sooner they can remove the slug. Do you want to come to the office with me for a statement?” Coby asked her .
“Does it look like I want to go to your office? I am going to the hospital with Micah.”
Coby ran his hand over his mouth. “Yes ma’am.”
She watched as the paramedics rolled a stretcher to Micah but checked him over first. It seemed like an awful lot of blood for just a shoulder wound but then what did she know about gunshot wounds? She stood and stepped back to give them room.
“Son of bitch was carrying a Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum,” the agent, Coby had called Carver said from nearby.
“Shit,” Coby muttered.
“What does that mean?” Patsy asked as she looked back and forth between the two agents.
Coby stared at her then took a deep breath. “I’m not going to lie to you, Miss Murphy. It’s a very powerful weapon. It’s very accurate and lethal.”
“But he was only shot in the shoulder,” she exclaimed.
“It doesn’t matter where he was shot. That weapon has a high velocity speed and it’s deadly.”
Patsy felt like she was going to pass out and she must have looked like it too, because Coby suddenly wrapped his arms around her.
“He could die?” Her voice shook as she asked the question and not wanting to think about losing Micah .
“It’s a possibility. I’m not going to sugar coat it. Doesn’t matter where he was shot, a gun of that caliber could rip through blood vessels like paper going through a shredder. Look, I know you don’t want to hear it but it’s really best if you do. He’s going to need surgery and hopefully, he didn’t suffer enough damage to lose his arm or his life. Come on…let’s go.”
Coby led her to the ambulance and put her inside. “I’ll be there after I wrap things up here.”
Patsy sat on the bench in the ambulance and stared down at Micah. His skin was pale, and she wanted to shout at him to wake up. She didn’t pay any attention to what the paramedic was saying as he hooked IVs up to Micah then put an oxygen mask over his face. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. He could die. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she kept holding his hand and staring at him. She appreciated Coby being honest with her because she knew if Micah was awake, he’d lie to her. Hell, he’d told her he was fine and it was just a flesh wound.
Damn you, Micah Turner! Damn you!
Hours later, she sat beside his bed watching him sleep. The surgery had gone well and the doctor said he was going to be fine. He wasn’t going to lose his arm, but he would be out of commission a while. She’d already decided she was going to stay with him until he was on his feet again. The doctor told her it could be up to two weeks before he’d be able to use his arm well enough to be on his own.
She sat there staring at him and heard someone enter the room and looked over her shoulder to see an older version of Micah. This had to be his father.
“Hello, I’m Mitcham Turner, Micah’s dad.” He stuck his hand out to her when she stood.
“Hello, Mr. Turner. I’m Patsy Murphy.” She smiled, taking his hand in hers.
“It’s nice to meet you. Coby just told me why you were here. I’m glad that’s all over with now.”
“Yes sir, I am too but I hate that Micah was hurt because of me.”
“Part of the job,” Mitcham said with a smile.
A beautiful woman in her mid to late fifties entered the room, hesitated a moment when her gaze fell on Mitcham Turner, but then she turned and smiled at Patsy.
“Hello, I’m Laura Turner, Micah’s mother. I’m glad you’re all right now, Miss Murphy and out of danger.”
“Yes ma’am, I am. Thank you.”
Patsy had no idea what more she could say but she could definitely see where Micah got his good looks. His father was very handsome, and his mother must have been breathtakingly beautiful when she was younger because she was still stunning .
Coby entered the room, greeted the pair, and leaned in to kiss Laura Turner’s cheek then looked at Patsy.
“I can give you a ride back to Micah’s if you’re ready to go, Patsy.”
“I, uh—” She looked to Micah asleep in the bed.
“He’s going to sleep through the night. There’s no sense in you staying and you’ll be safe at his house now.”
Patsy nodded. “All right. It was nice meeting you, Mr. and Mrs. Turner. Goodnight.” With one last look at Micah, she walked out of the room with Coby then walked with the man to the parking lot.
“Where’s Micah’s car?” she asked looking around for the Vette.
“I drove it to his house with agent Carver following me.” He chuckled. “If Micah finds out someone else drove it, he’ll be fit to be tied.”
Patsy smiled but didn’t say anything because all she could think about was how she’d stay with Micah until he was well enough to be on his own, but then she was leaving him .
