Chapter 9
Did this infuriating woman realize what she’d just done?
She’d just changed my life. Celix and Nero enjoyed fetching Cambion, but I wanted more.
I wanted to be in the thick of it. I’d never been important enough to meet the princes.
This was the first time. I didn’t think they were celebrities.
Frankly, they were kind of assholes who didn’t even acknowledge us.
They wouldn’t be caught dead with any of us guarding them, even though the three of us were strong in our own right. She chose that. She elevated us, even though the weasley page that was sent to get her hinted we were lower than dirt. She actually stood up for Nero when they tried to shit on him.
Celix and I stood up for him all the time, but because of the hierarchy, there were demons we couldn’t do that to. We would have beat their asses in a fight, but since we were considered lesser, we weren’t allowed.
Sydney was something. From what I knew Abaddon preferred to spend his time lazing around with his incubus lovers and as the Prince of Wrath, you never wanted to piss Satan off. She had both of them on her side, which should keep the other princes off her back some.
Satan was leading her to Lucifer’s castle, so she’d have a place to stay.
And Satan was actually chatting with Nero about Wrathhog like everyone didn’t look down on the incubi.
Wrathhog had been around for a while and was a legend.
Whether you were born here or you were a Cambion who ended up here, all the kids went through a Wrathhog phase.
Nero never really grew out of his and Satan seemed like he was a devoted father to Wrathhog and enjoyed listening to Nero be more impressed with his daughter than himself.
“So, this is yours,” Satan said. “Lucifer is my brother, so it’ll still be yours when we find him.”
“Holy fuck. I haven’t asked anyone yet, but pinch me because I’m still not all that sure I’m back in my shower with a head injury.”
Yeah, not doing that. My poor nuts would never recover if she kicked me a second time, and I didn’t know if she was crazy enough to assault me again for doing what she asked.
Nero wasn’t going to do it because he was a giant softy who wouldn’t even pinch a woman who wanted it.
Celix wouldn’t pinch her because for some reason, he respected the monarchy and would find it rude.
Let Satan do it and get his nuts smashed.
He was much different from how I’d pictured him and almost seemed…
nice. Still, he was the Prince of Wrath.
Shit, maybe I should take one for the team and pinch her because he would destroy her.
I still hadn’t gotten a complete read on her.
My mother was a Fury and not a nice person.
If she’d asked me to pinch her, she would have beaten the shit out of me for doing what she asked.
But nothing happened. Satan pinched her arm, and she gaped at him.
“I felt that. Holy shit. This is real and I’m not killing brain cells in my shower.”
“Why don’t we show you your new home? Have they explained to you my siblings that didn’t fall are still quite bitter several millennia later and have no problem hurting children if they think they are abominations?”
“I got the basics. Okay, I can’t live here. This is where rich people live. I do well for myself, but gross.”
Satan just laughed.
“This is the fancy pants area for parties. Lucifer is the King of Hell. They tried to pin Pride on him since he dared rebel, but all he did was ask for rights. He’s one of the most low-key and least ostentatious of all of us. The rest of the house isn’t like this. I promise, you’ll like it.”
Abaddon yawned.
“He splurges on mattresses. Any time I’ve crashed here, it’s like sleeping on a cloud.”
“So, I don’t know where everyone lives, but are there enough rooms for my new friends to sleep here if they want? Ooh, and Almeth and Wrathhog, too.”
Was she serious right now? Servants and guards weren’t allowed to sleep at the castles.
They had to commute no matter how far it was.
The only lesser demons that had ever slept at a prince’s palace were Abaddon’s incubus lovers, He treated them well and stayed with them for a long time, but the rest of Hell didn’t.
“The rest of the princes are going to lose their mind because they do when my lovers live with me, but do what you want. We lived our lives doing what someone else wanted until we fell and I don’t think my brothers realize they are doing that to other people,” Abaddon said.
“Wrathhog said she’ll meet you, but she’s not agreeing to anything.
As the child of a prince of Hell, she’s equal to you.
I’ve always challenged her, but given her free rein to make her own path.
It’s why I have a better relationship with my kid than the rest of them. Lucifer is the same with his kids.”
I didn’t peg any of them as being a better parent then my mother was, but Satan was brimming with pride when he talked about Wrathhog.
“I don’t have children. When I find my soulmate, I’ll adopt.” Abaddon said.
“So, the master suite is at the end of the hall. There’s another wing for guests, but there are also plenty of rooms in this one because Lucifer always wanted a big family. If you’re giving your friends rooms, you can pick where.”
“It seems weird having your new friends stay with you and then putting them clean across the house. What if we want to braid each other’s hair and do our nails? They can pick. If they want to stay in the guest wing, they can stay there or they can stay in this one.”
This was…we weren’t really friends, or at least, I wasn’t. We brought her here because it was our job. We were literally the only demons she knew. That was weird, right? I wasn’t even nice to her after she assaulted me and she was still including me in all the promotions and housing upgrades.
I mean, I guess I could get why she assaulted me. I was expecting a kid and got a rather pleasant set of boobs. I could have let her get dressed before I took her to Hell. I’d never be a demon with a gooey center like Nero or Celix, but I could try to be nice to her because this was probably a lot.
“What are you staring at, fucker?” she snapped, flipping me off.
I sighed and stared at the ceiling. Or perhaps not.
