Chapter 13 Jaseon Jr #4
“Answer me.” I folded my arms over my chest as I hovered over her. “Have I ever told you I loved you, wanted to be with you, or even directly introduced you to anyone associated with me as anything other than your name?”
“No.” Her lips quivered as the first tear fell. She hurriedly wiped it before stepping around me. “I will run the tests and get them back to Dr. Massey as soon as possible. Have a good day.”
Hearing the door behind me open, I noticed one of her coworkers walking in. Looking from me to Sheena, he said nothing as he went over to his desk and began to work. This was another reason I had to cut her loose. I didn’t do that workplace drama shit.
By the time I made it outside the building, it was a little after nine. I needed to grab a quick bite to eat before I headed home for some much-needed rest. Coming up on a small family diner, I whipped my truck into the lot, thankful that it wasn’t too crowded.
“Good morning and welcome to Dan’s.” The smell of freshly brewed coffee smacked me in the face as soon as I entered. “Will you be dining alone?”
“Yeah.” I nodded as I looked around for a booth. “Let me sit—Actually, you know what? I think I see someone I’ll be dining with.”
Letting the host know I would take a sausage breakfast platter, he assured me someone would bring it right out before I made my way to the booth near the back of the restaurant. I chuckled, my baritone voice vibrating in delight that I was about to ruin his morning.
“Detective Hines,” I greeted him, causing him to snap his head up in my direction. “It’s good to see you.”
Eyes wide before they turned to slits, his jaw clenched as he zoomed in on me. This was the first time I’d seen him since I knocked his ass out the night of the gala.
“McKnight, what the fuck are you doing here?” He gritted his teeth angrily before continuing. “I should put a bullet in you for—”
“Nigga, you ain’t gone do shit.” I sneered, cutting him off before I dragged my eyes over to the unknown woman sitting across from him. She was pretty, and by the way she was looking at me, I knew the bitch was easy. “Good morning, baby. Slide over for me.”
Without hesitation, she damn near hit her head on the window, sliding toward the other end of the booth.
TJ was mad as hell, but there wasn’t shit he could do.
No sooner had I sat down, old man Dan was bringing out my food and coffee.
Placing both in front of me, he looked from me to TJ before grunting and walking away.
“Baby, is this your coworker?” the unknown thirst bucket asked TJ as she looked from me to him. She smiled at me sexily before offering her hand for me to shake. “Hi! I’m Lisa.”
“Lisa, I don’t know you. Put your hand down.” I squeezed some sanitizer on my hands before saying a quick prayer and diving in. Pointing my fork at TJ, I smirked. “Who is this, anyway? The way you had your chest poked out about Bloss Baby’s fine ass—”
Whap!
Slapping the table, the small chatter around us ceased as the patrons looked in our direction. TJ’s nose flared with anger as Lisa’s eyes bucked from embarrassment, and maybe a little fear. I found both of their asses hilarious.
“Don’t you ever speak on what I have going on with Blossom, nigga. That’s my bitch.” He was seething as he leaned across the table. “What she and I have going on is none of your concern, McKnight. If I find out you’ve been near her, I’m going to kill you.”
“You ain’t gone do shit but end up in a fuckin’ sewer, nigga.
” I continued to eat because his threats didn't move me at all, and the food was hitting like a motherfucker. After forking more eggs into my mouth, I pointed the fork at the madman again. “You talk a lot of shit for a nigga that walks around with a ballpoint pen and a handy-dandy notebook all day. I didn’t come here to argue with you, though.”
I sipped my coffee and eyed him over the rim.
He didn’t respond, which was the wisest decision he’d made since I’d learned about his existence.
Dan was headed our way, and that was my cue to get my ass home.
I didn’t want to cause problems for him today; I’d paid him enough money last time I had to straighten out a disrespectful-ass nigga in here.
“I just wanted to check on you and see how your jaw was feeling. Based on the bullshit you’re spewing, I will say you’re doing just fine.”
Glancing over at Lisa, I threw her a wink, causing her to blush. Sliding from the booth, I went into my wallet just as Dan approached the table.
“Is everything okay?” He looked at each of us. “I don’t want any trouble in here this morning.”
“No trouble at all, Dan,” I assured him, handing him a few bills.
“Just a conversation amongst family. Right, cousin?” I couldn’t help but laugh at the sour look on TJ’s face.
This nigga hated my guts, and I was going to make his life a living hell for thinking he could ever fuck with me. “Enjoy your breakfast. It’s on me.”
“I don’t want shit from you!” He stood from the table, stepping toward me. “Unless it’s your head.”
Smirking, I nodded as I turned to leave the diner.
The detective made it too easy to fluster and rile him up.
However, I heard his threat loud and clear.
I knew he didn’t care for me, but now that I knew what time he was on, it was going to make killing him that much sweeter.
If he wanted to take it there with me, we could do that.
His hatred for me because of my father’s actions had fueled a fire in him I didn’t mind putting out.
Little did he know, avenging his father’s death was doing nothing but gearing him up to meet the same fate.
