Chapter Forty-Three

Jude

Six days later

I stood under the steaming water in the shower, savoring the heat of it and the way it pounded between my shoulder blades. Leaning forward, I rested my palms against the wall. We were home, and I was exhausted.

Exhaustion aside, it had been an amazing trip—complete with caribou, moose, and a pair of mountain goats. After my shower, I eyed my phone screen. There were three texts from Kendall.

Kendall: Missed you.

Kendall: Would love to see you tonight.

Kendall: Hope you’re back safe and sound.

I didn’t know how to explain it, but I was still a little, I guess, sore over not seeing her the night before I left. I ignored her texts for the moment. That was easy enough because I had five million things to do.
