Chapter 31 Davis

DAVIS

There were little things I lived for now that I never realized I would care about before. Like when Rae talked to the hens. I had talked to them plenty before, but hearing her talk to them was becoming an addiction. I watched as she spread feed around the pen, smiling at all the clucking birds.

“Little queens, that’s what all of you are. Don’t let anyone tell you different, and if Duke or Dove make you scared, I’ll personally buy balloons and leave them near their food bowls. They’re terrified of them, you know.”

I laughed quietly, nailing in a few boards to secure the hen house.

I had a few other projects to do now that the weather was turning cold.

It was another thing I’d never looked forward to before, but having Rae curled up under a blanket with me next to the fire would live at the top of my list of reasons I loved the colder weather.

We’d been dating for over three weeks now, figuring out a new normal where she still went home to her parents and worked during the week, but came home with me every weekend.

Sometimes, she’d still show up at my house in the evening mid-week, after helping at the diner, saying she missed me.

I loved those nights—when I wasn’t expecting her, but she’d show up anyway. I was addicted to her, and if I had my way, she’d live with me. Fuck, honestly—if I had my way, she’d be married to me.

Chills spread down my spine like it always did when I thought of how that would go.

First, I would have to admit something else to her…

something I’d been burning to say for weeks now.

Every time I worked up the nerve, I’d just chicken out, but after that day where I spilled my life story to her, and we’d made love the rest of the afternoon, ending up in front of the fire…

it just shifted something between us. It was like something clicked into place, and every day after that I had just been falling harder for her.

“You’re coming tonight, right?” Rae suddenly asked, walking up behind me to exit the pen.

Her best friend was having a dinner party, and Rae had asked me to go as her date.

It wouldn’t be the first time we’d gone out, but it would be the first time we were together in a more intimate setting.

I had asked if she wanted to go to Gavin’s for dinner a few weeks back, but she had some reason she couldn’t go.

By going to this, I was hoping we could eventually or gradually work our way to both sides of our friendship table.

Gavin was my best friend, just like Nora was hers, so I needed Rae to be okay with him.

“Yeah, I’ll be there.”

She gave me one of those smiles that stirred my cock and warmed my heart.

“Okay, good. You’re meeting me there since I’ll be leaving early to help her set up.”

I silently nodded, going back to my project.

By the time I’d made my way upstairs, Rae was in my shower, scrubbing her hair with the shampoo I’d ordered for her.

When she realized I had bought it for her, and her own mud boots for the animal pens, she’d cried.

It wasn’t the reaction I was going for, but thankfully they were just happy tears.

Peeling out of my sweaty clothes, I tugged the glass door open and walked in, standing right behind her. She spun, her eyes squeezed tight as she started rinsing the soap out of her hair.

“Hi, beautiful.”

She smiled, giggling under the spray. “Hey, handsome.”

I loved showering with Rae; it was another one of those items that I was now addicted to in life: The way her dark hair looked when it was soaked, hanging down the center of her back.

The way water dripped down her breasts, traveling in rivulets down her stomach, over her mound, and in between her thighs.

She was mouthwatering, and every single time we showered together, I was hard as fucking stone within seconds.

She knew this, and from how many times we’d fucked in the shower, she expected it. She turned back to the wall, now that the soap was gone, and reached for her conditioner. Once she lathered her hair up, I reached around her and turned the faucet off.

“Hey!”

“You need three minutes to keep that in your hair, do you not?”

Tugging her hips back, she let out a small laugh. “Yeah, but I usually shave my legs during that time.”

“Then do it, I’m not stopping you.”

She gave me a skeptical look, reaching around me for her shaving gel and razor then lifting her leg to the ledge and dragging the razor up her shin. That’s when I kneeled behind her and took advantage of her position.

“Fuck!” Rae braced the tiled wall with her free hand as my tongue swept up the crack of her ass, swirling into the tight hole.

“Sure, but first I want to taste you,” I said, then sunk three fingers into her while my mouth returned to her slit. I focused on pushing my tongue into her tight heat while rubbing her clit with my fingers.

“Davis,” she gasped again, dropping her razor.

I loved when she gave me all of her attention.

I was always touching her—when she was reading or watching television, sometimes even when she was cooking, I’d stick my hand down her pants and my fingers into her center.

I’d work her while she tried to concentrate, until eventually, she’d give in and surrender to my touch.

“Lift your leg higher, put it on the other ledge.”

She did as I said, holding onto the wall for support, so I had complete access to her.

I worshiped her with my mouth and fingers until she was rocking into me, curses falling from her lips.

Right before she climaxed, I pulled away and stood to my feet.

“You son of a bitch!” she gasped, mouth parted, nipples hard.

Smirking, I gripped her by the waist and twisted her until her back was against the wall. I slid the tip of my cock into her but didn’t go any further. She moaned in response, wrapping her legs around me tightly.

“You’re not going to like this,” I rasped, biting her ear lobe.

She rocked in response, letting out a small whine. Using one hand, I reached for the faucet and turned it to the left.

Water hit my back, but it was her eyes that had me focused. “This will give you something to look forward to.”

Her eyebrow lifted in doubt. I smirked as I pushed the head of my swollen head in further.

“I’ll owe you one.” I kissed her and then set her down.

Swatting at my back, she shrieked, “Are you kidding me?”

Laughing, I exited the shower and pressed a kiss to the door. “This way you’ll come home to me worked up and ready to take my cock.”

I laughed as I entered the bedroom, loving the creative curses that fell from her lips as she washed out her conditioner.

The dinner was held at six, and I arrived a few minutes early to make sure the girls didn’t need any help with anything.

They waved me off, telling me to go make sure the backyard was all set for the guests.

Nora had added patio furniture and a string of lights over her faded pergola, but otherwise the yard itself was still a work in progress.

While outside, I heard someone muttering curses from the other side of Nora’s fence.

“Is she really turning those on again?” the stranger grumbled. I walked to the fence and peered over.

“What was that?”

Suddenly Colson Hanes popped into view, an old friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in forever.

“Davis?”

“Cole, what the hell are you doing over there?” I held my hand out, and he took it in a friendly shake.

“Shit, man I haven’t seen you in forever.”

Shaking my head, I eyed his yard, seeing how dark it was. He had a few solar lights around his garden, but nothing as obnoxious as Nora’s bright lights. The contrast nearly made me wince.

“So, you live next door, huh?” I gestured toward the back yard.

From what I could remember of Cole, or Colson, was that he played ball but was fascinated with books. He was always reading, doing research and different study projects. I hadn’t kept up with him after everything happened with my brother, so I didn’t know what he ended up doing.

“Yeah, just moved in about a year ago. She doing some sort of dinner party thing?” His tone was a little terse, which made me curious about his relationship with Nora.

“Yeah, Nora is hosting it, but uh…well, what are you doing tonight? Want to come?”

He laughed, full bellied, tossing his head back. In the shadows it was hard to see him, but he still had blond hair, a hard jaw, and the build of a football player.

“Nah man, she hates me.”

I shrugged. “She seems friendly enough to me. Two of her dinner guests canceled, and she’s pretty bummed about it. I think if you bring a bottle of wine or something, she’d be grateful to have you.”

He seemed to mull it over for a second, then asked, “Her boyfriend going?”

That led to a slew of other assumptions about their relationship, but again, wasn’t my place, and I didn’t really care that much.

“Doesn’t have one that I know of. It’s just my girlfriend, and a few other women. I think I’ll be a little outnumbered… You’d be doing me a favor if you came.”

“Wouldn’t want you to be outnumbered…and I do have a brand-new bottle of wine, and a few other things I could bring over.”

“Then it’s settled. Dinner starts in about fifteen minutes.”

“Yeah, see you in a few.”

Walking back to the house, I heard Rae laughing with Nora, and the sound of it seemed to warm the whole house.

Nora was pretty cool, and only gave me a thumbs up when she saw me for the first time after her little pep talk.

We’d never spoken about Rae again after that, but she seemed like a good friend, and for that I was grateful.

But now, I was worried that maybe I should have asked her before inviting Colson over.

I mean, they were neighbors, they had to be friendly, right?
