Chapter 32 Rae #2

His tongue delved deeply into my mouth, his head slanting to the side as I watched him move for move, sinking my fingers into his hair.

“It’s never enough,” he breathed in between kisses. “Having you, loving you…it’s never enough.”

There it was again…the reminder that I needed to come clean.

I pulled back, pushing that longer piece of hair back away from his brow and took a deep breath. “I love you too. I’ve been in love with you for a while now, but there’s something I need to tell you.”

His smile was so big, it nearly broke my soul in half. I had never seen him so happy.

“Whatever it is, it has to wait.” He picked me up, grabbing my ass, as my legs went around his waist.

Then he walked us upstairs, kissing my neck, and catching my lips with every step.

Once we’d entered his room, he gently lowered me until my feet were pressed into what should have been a woven rug but instead it was plush and soft.

“What…what is this?” My eyes greedily searched the transformed space.

Davis slowly walked to the new dresser on the left side of the room.

Before, a wooden rocking chair had sat there, along with a side table and lamp.

Now it was a dresser that matched the one on his side of the room.

On top was a nice-looking circular mirror, along with a few other more feminine touches.

“This is yours.” He grabbed my hand and walked to the door to the right.

It was a closet, packed full of hunting gear last time I checked.

Turning the knob, he clicked the light, revealing an empty space, with white shelving inserted, along with three racks for shoes, two big rolling drawers, and enough space for hanging clothes.

“This is your closet,” he said, gently tugging my wrist, and pulling me back into the room. “I asked Nora about what sort of bedding you might like, and she told me to watch the episodes of Gilmore Girls after Lorelei renovates her bedroom, and to find something that matches the bedding she had.”

A tear escaped as I laughed, because his bed looked just like that.

Fluffy pillows, with a massive, snowy white down comforter that looked soft enough to be a cloud.

There were white rugs on the floor, brightening up the space, as well as a large new armchair near the window on his side.

Black and white photographs added contrast to the room, along with a few framed photos of people I hadn’t ever seen before.

“Is this your family?” I nearly sobbed, moving to the small frame.

Cradling it in my hands, I traced the face of the man I had loved while I was in high school, standing next to someone who could be his twin, except he had longer hair and glasses.

“Timothy,” I said out loud, and then took in the sight of his mother and father, both dark- haired, good-looking people. They seemed happy in the photo, at least marginally.

“Figured maybe I should start putting out more of these, and, I don’t know, maybe try and call sometime.”

My throat felt tight as I carefully set the photo down and registered there was a photo of us next to the one I’d just picked up.

It was of that day we’d tried to go on a date to a five-star restaurant.

So, we were dressed nicely, but the weather turned, delaying us so much that we decided to just stay back, but Davis felt bad, so we hiked to a remote lake.

He danced with me along the banks and then held my hand, leading me into the water.

Rain splintered the calm surface as he pulled me to him, and still wearing my black lacy dress, and him in his nice green button down, I kissed him, while he thrust his wrist out and took the photo.

It was a beautiful photo, stunning with the way the mountain stood in the background and the shading of gray and blue.

“Move in with me.” He pressed a kiss to my lips gently. “Go to bed with me every night and wake up with me every morning.”

I swiped at my face as more tears came. I had to tell him; I knew this—but how? He’d just told me he loved me, and now this. He had a framed photo of us in his bedroom. No, what he wanted to be our bedroom. I was so done for, so insanely overwhelmed, I couldn’t breathe.

“When did you even have time to do all this?”

I didn’t deserve this. Any of it.

“Bits at a time. You haven’t looked in that closet for a while, so that was easy to keep hidden. The rest I just finished today once you left for Nora’s, and then finished up before you got home.”

Pulling both my hands in his, he started leading us out of the room and down the hall to the very last bedroom on the floor. It faced the backyard, with a gorgeous view of Mount Macon.

“This is your office,” he said quietly. “I wanted you to have a space to think up all those amazing ideas to save our little town. You have so much to give, Rae. You just need space to create it all.”

Covering my mouth to catch the sob creeping up my throat, I stared at the beautiful white desk, already set up with a printer, monitor, and a bulletin board that had a note tacked to it that read, I love you.

He tangled his fingers with mine and asked again.

“Move in with me.”

“Yes,” I breathed, “of course I will.” I finally gave in, because fighting him was futile, and I didn’t really want to. I wanted to live with him. Hell, I wanted to marry him.

“I have to tell you something though, and it might take a bit to explain.”

“Save it for tomorrow.” He kissed my lips. “Please. I just need to be with you, in our bed, on those fancy new sheets, and watch how beautiful you look under the glow from the fire. Give me a night where I get to love you completely, with my body and my soul.”

Nodding, I gave in and let him sweep me away.

I let him slowly undress me, and with every piece that left my body, he kissed me reverently.

I let him love me the way he wanted to, and selfishly, I let myself love him back, just as eagerly.

I was starved for him, so when he laid me down in our bed, naked—pinning my hands together, and sinking deeply into me—I took every piece of it for myself.
