Chapter 68
"What did you say?!"Clyde nearly dropped the tablet in his hands. The man standing before him wasn’t the sharp, composed CEO he once worked for. This man had sunken eyes, an unshaven beard, and reeked of alcohol—a mere shadow of his former self. "I asked you a question Clyde, what did you say is wrong with Harper?!" "Miss Harper's in trouble, you have to go save her!" "Where is she?" "She's at the intersection close to Whitney-" Clyde hadn't even finished when he felt a figure run past him like the wind. He turned his head and Harrison was gone! Clyde ran outside and saw Harrison leaving in the car. He ran as fast as he could and shouted after him "Boss? Boss! Wait for me-" but it was too late, he was already gone.
"Harper dear, are you almost home?" "Yes grandma, I'm at the intersection near Whitney Corp" "Oh that's good, hurry back home for dinner ok?" "Yes grandma, I'll be there soon" She had only gone out for a few hours and her grandmother was already so worried about her. She was such a worrywart She'd actually been on a blind date— her grandfather had insisted she goes. The men were not bad— but not a single one was as good as Harrison.
Hold up, did she just think of Harrison again?! Harper slapped her cheeks and shook her head vigorously "Come on Harper, you promised yourself not to think of that man anymore! Snap out of it!" But Harrison had taken a spot in her heart, was she really going to be able to forget about him?
To be honest, she was very worried when Clyde had told her what he'd been doing for the past few weeks now, but she forced herself not to go. Was he doing well now? Harper picked her phone and stared at it as her finger hovered over Harrison's number. To call or not to call?
Harper dropped her phone on the car seat and hit the steering wheel upon seeing the traffic lights. "Dang it, I should have gone when they were still green. Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait" Harper's gaze moved away from the lights and she looked ahead but was petrified. A huge truck was coming straight for her!
What was she going to do? She couldn't go back in an attempt to escape, what if there were other cars coming on the road? If she were to jump out of the car, the impact of the truck would be too great, her entire body would be destroyed! With no other options or ideas of what to do, Harper closed her eyes in despair, hoping some miracle would happen.
All of a sudden Harper could hear the sound of another car coming. Who was that? When the car passed by her, she was stunned. Was that Harrison in the car? What the heck is he trying to do? That's when she saw him head straight for the truck that was coming at her. Harper screamed "Harrison! Don't do it! You're going to get killed!" Harrison seemed to have heard her and he turned to her briefly—his eyes soft, his lips curved into a faint, almost peaceful smile. he turned to look at her with a faint smile and Harper was stunned. What had happened to him? He didn't look like this the last time she'd seen him!
Everything seemed to go by in slow motion like in the movies as Harper watched Harrison drive
straight at the truck in despair. "Harrison, don't do it, please don't do it!" But it was too late, the truck come ramming straight into Harrison's car! "Harrison!"
"Sorry Miss, you'll have to stay outside" "Can't you let me in there? please let me in" "Sorry Miss, you have to follow the rules" Harper watched as a bloody Harrison was wheeled into the emergency theater and sat slumped against the wall with tears "H-Harrison" Clyde looked at the scene before him with heartache. He stepped forward and was about to comfort her by patting her shoulder but he changed his mind, Harrison would have his head chopped off if he knows that he'd actually touched Harper. So he could only comfort her with words "Miss, ok don't cry. I'm sure he'll be fine" But Harper didn't even reply, she just started at the door of the emergency theater without even blinking. Clyde sighed and he left to make a phone call. It may cost him his job, but he had to let the CEO's family know what had happened, perhaps they could manage to comfort Harper too.
Harper heard a ding from her phone and picked it up, thinking it was a missed call from her grandmother but she was wrong. It was a missed call, but it was from Harrison. She also saw that he'd left a voicemail so she clicked on her phone to play it and the words she heard brought her to tears.
