Chapter 67
"That's right Miss, the CEO has been drinking for days now and he keeps mentioning your name when drunk. I'm afraid he'll fall ill if this continues, would you please-" Clyde hadn't finished when the call suddenly ended. Harper had cut the call? "Miss Harper? Miss Harper?" "Did she answer?" "I'm afraid not sir" Alfred couldn't help but sigh. Harper had asked Harrison for a divorce, she'd even sent the divorce papers to him. When he received them and saw her signature, he broke down completely. He'd lock himself in his study while drinking all day. When he was dead drunk, he'd call for Harper in a sad and broken voice. He never came out of the house, the highest form of movement he'd made was merely from his study to his bar and back again. When Clyde told Alfred at first, he found it hard to believe. His grandson who was unmoved by anything had actually broken down like this because of a woman? But now that he had seen him...
"Clyde, I want to ask you something, and I hope you'll tell me the truth" "Yes sir" "Is my grandson in love with that woman?" "Yes sir, the CEO is very much in love with her" "I see. What do you think about her?" "Well, I've only met her on a few occasions— but I can say she's a really, really good person" "She doesn't seem like some sort of gold digger?" "Not at all sir. To be honest, Miss Harper knew nothing about the CEO's true identity. She decided to divorce him because he had been keeping it a secret from her" "Is that so?" "Yes sir"
Alfred got lost in thought for a moment. He knew his grandson well, he was a good judge of character and he always knew the kind of people to hire. If his assistant had said all that about Harper, it must be true. This Harper is a good girl, so there's nothing wrong with her marrying Harrison. Besides his grandson was now hopelessly in love with her, he couldn't just sit back and watch his beloved grandson become like this!
"Clyde, take me to that lady's place at once!" "Well, sir..." "What is it?" "I've been wanting to tell you this, but Miss Harper's the granddaughter of the Hawkins family" "The Hawkins family?!" "Yes sir, her mother is Bethany Hawkins who eloped with William Carson a bit over 20 years ago" "Is that true?" "It is sir. Here's a picture of Miss Harper that can prove it" Alfred looked at the picture and was stunned. He'd seen Bethany several times when she was a child and he knew very well what she looks like.
This girl—Harper—looked just like her. But there were subtle differences. Her hair was longer, and unlike Bethany, Harper had a small beauty mark beside her right eye—a delicate detail that added to her quiet beauty.
"Her grandfather heard the news of what happened between her and the CEO so..." "What is it?" "He said he doesn't want to see anyone from the Whitney family at his place, not even you sir"
Alfred knew his friend Robert well, he was a man of his words. If he really said all what Clyde had just told him, he really wouldn't be able to see Harper. But his grandson desperately needed her, what was he going to do now?
"Clyde,I need you to find a way for me to see Harper, my grandson needs her!" "Ok sir but what about Miss Belle?" Alfred had almost forgotten about Jade. She is Harrison's fiancee..
But he's obviously in love with Harper and he can't just force his grandson to marry who he didn't want to now could he? He wouldn't even come out of the study!
But Jade was the one who saved his grandson from dying...
"You know what, I'll handle it myself. There should be some other way to compensate her" Alfred left and Clyde went after him to see him off but they both didn't notice someone lurking in the shadows watching them.
~A few weeks later...~
"Mr Whitney? Mr Whitney!" "I told you not to disturb me!" "I'm sorry sir but there's something I have to tell you" "And what is that?" "Miss Harper's in trouble!" Clyde's words stunned Harrison and he immediately stood up from his chair and opened the door of his study "What did you say?!"
