Chapter 66

"Grandpa!" Harper sprang up from her seat and ran towards Harrison, assuming a defensive posture in front of him. "Grandpa, what do you think you're doing?" "Move out of the way Harper, I'm going to shoot this boy. How dare he deceive my precious grand daughter?" "Grandpa that's enough!" "Are you actually defending him?!" "Of course not! But think about it. If you kill Alfred Whitney's precious grandson, what would happen?"

There was only one word that could perfectly describe what was going to happen, and that was war. A big bloody war. Few people knew this, but the Whitney and Hawkins family were the only two families that stood at the same level in terms of wealth and power. Alfred had also served in the military alongside Robert, and he was just as dangerous, if not more.

Robert slowly put down his rifle and Harper turned around to look at Harrison. "What are you doing here?" Harrison looked at his wife's eyes and he was stunned. They were cold, so cold that he couldn't read a single emotion from her eyes. Had she come to hate him so much in just a day? "I came here to see you" Harper held Harrison by his sleeve and dragged him out of the mansion. When she reached the gate, she let go of his sleeve and pointed outside. "I don't want to see you, please leave" "Harper,I-" "Are you deaf? Didn't you hear what I said? I want you to leave!" "Harper" "What is it? Are you that desperate for a divorce? Don't worry, you'll get the papers soon enough" "Harper-" Harper didn't let Harrison say what he wanted to and she pushed him out before making sure to lock the gate. Clyde looked at his boss with worry "Sir are you okay? I'm fine" Harrison patted his clothes and his eyes lingered on the gate.

It was locked.

Just like her heart.

It seemed Harper really did hate him now. What was he supposed to do…?

That night, soft sobs floated from Harper’s room.

The door creaked open, and Diane peeked inside.

"Harper, dear… can I come in?"

Sniffling, Harper quickly wiped her tears with her sleeve and nodded.

"Are you alright, dearie?" "I’m fine, Grandma"

Diane sat beside her on the bed, wrapping her arms around her gently. "Were you thinking about Harrison?"

Harper gave a small nod, her eyes misty.

Diane sighed. "Listen, sweetheart. I can tell… you still have feelings for that boy. Do you want to talk—"

"Talk? There's nothing to talk about!" a gruff voice interrupted.

Both women looked up in surprise.

“"Grandpa?" Harper blinked. "When did you get here?" "All you need to know is that I've been here long enough to hear your grandmother's suggestion" Robert said as he stepped fully into the room.

"Well—"

"And I’ll say this again—there’s nothing to talk about. As soon as the divorce is finalized, let me know" "Why?"

"I’ve got a long list of friends with grandsons—handsome, smart, much better than that stinky Whitney boy! You can rest easy, alright?"

Harper looked at him, his expression as serious as ever. Despite everything, she couldn’t help but laugh.

"Okay, Grandpa. I’ll do as you say"

"That’s my girl" He gave her a firm nod. "Now, get some rest. We’ve got a busy day tomorrow"

"Okay, Grandpa. See you in the morning?"

"Sleep tight, dear"

As they left the room, Harper smiled faintly. She was so lucky to have them—such a loving family.

But… as her grandfather’s words echoed in her mind, her heart clenched.

Harrison already had a place in her heart. Could she really let him go?

A few days later Harper received a phone call from an unknown number 'Who could this be?'. She answered the call and what the person on the other end said stunned her beyond words. "What did you say?!"
