chapter 3
Jackson pushed through the crowd in confusion. When he saw me, his expression changed instantly.
But the next second, when he noticed Amelia, he immediately put on a flattering smile. "Mrs. Amelia Moore, why didn't you inform me in advance that you were coming?"
"I'll have someone prepare a private room and coffee for you right away."
Amelia liked his approach.
She waved casually and said, "No need to go through so much trouble. My main purpose today isn't the auction."
"I'm here to catch the third party."
The atmosphere instantly grew tense, and the guests began speaking up for Amelia.
Someone said, "Mistresses nowadays are really outrageous. Even the real wife has shown up, yet she still won't repent."
Another person said, "Yeah, Jackson. How can your auction let just anyone in?"
Hearing everyone's comments, Jackson awkwardly looked at us.
I seized the opportunity and said to him, "Jackson, it's me. Don't you recognize me?"
"This is Adeline, my husband's mother. They are the impostors."
I said to him excitedly, "Hurry up and call the police for us."
But under my expectant gaze, Jackson distanced himself from me. "Ms. Hernandez, were not very familiar."
He sneered and continued, "Why would I call the police for you? Do you want to go to jail?"
As he spoke, Jackson slowly leaned toward my ear and lowered his voice, saying, "Ms. Hernandez, dont blame me for not warning you. That lady over there is the wife of our richest man."
"I suggest you be sensible, admit your mistake, and calm her down. Maybe this will blow over."
I gritted my teeth and said, "Jackson, are you crazy?"
"Even if others dont know, dont you know my true identity?"
When Aaron and I got married, Jackson attended the wedding and even gave me a pair of diamond earrings.
That's also why I placed my hopes on him just now.
But I didn't expect this outcome.
Jackson shrugged indifferently and then said in a voice only the two of us could hear, "The head of The Moore family is still Mr. Charles Moore."
"You are Mr. Moore's wife, that's true. But I also hope you stay clear-headed. In wealthy families, those not liked by their husband's mother are destined for divorce."
I was stunned. So, this is what he really thinks.
I had no choice but to take a step back. Seeing Adeline struggling to breathe, I softened my tone.
I said, "Alright, Jackson, I'm begging you. For the sake of us knowing each other before, can you help me call an ambulance, please?"
"Adeline has a heart condition."
I choked up when mentioning Adeline.
Over the years, Ive come to see Adeline as my own mother. I can endure grievances, but I cant stand seeing Adeline being bullied like this.
Amelia said impatiently, "She has a heart condition? Does being sick give her the right to steal someone else's husband?"
She had a bad temper and raised her arm to hit again, but her action was interrupted once more.
A voice came through. "Mrs. Amelia Moore, Mr. Moore sent me ahead to assist you."
Everyone turned toward the voice. I immediately recognized the person as Aaron's personal secretary, Liam Kelly, which gave me a glimmer of hope.
But I didnt even have time to speak before Amelia, clearly displeased, stopped the person.
She said, "Where's Aaron? He's got some nerve.
"I, his own mother, called him to come over. Does he dare not show up?"
Amelia's expression directly frightened Liam.
Liam said, "Mrs. Amelia Moore, please don't be upset.
"Mr. Moore is driving over here. I guess he'll be here soon."
But no matter what Liam said, Amelia was just not satisfied.
She directly made a video call to Aaron. "Aaron, what's going on with you?
"Your mom is about to be driven crazy by this mistress. Where are you?
"Didn't I ask you to come help me? Where are you?"
