Chapter 24 The Truth
Looking at unconscious Eva, Stephen got terrified.
The next moment Rose also reached them, she took time to return as she could not trace her mobile phone.
When she saw some movement on the lawn, her heart dropped at all the wrong possibilities, and, to her dislike, it became true when she listened to Stephen’s loud voice as he was calling Eva’s name.
Rose rushed to Stephen and noticed Eva’s condition and also noticed her bruised foot, which was bleeding. She spotted Richard behind before she could inquire something Stephen shouted in a loud voice
“Richard, we have to rush to the hospital. “ stating this, Stephen rushed to the car
All the way Stephen held Eva close to her, whereas Rose was in tears looking at the naive girl. She was trying to understand how this happened just moments before she left Eva all fine on the lawn.
As Stephen observed Eva's face, he noticed her pale complexion and the tear stains that still adorned her cheeks.
He is unaware of the events that occurred at Thompson's residence, however; he was unwilling to consider it a mere accident.
A person has articulated their desire for harm towards their female companion.
Within some time they reached the hospital, Stephen was the first to get to the hospital with an unconscious Eva in his armsThe team of doctors started attending to her, and soon William and Steve also arrived at the hospital.
William found his wife weeping silently.
He rushed to her first. Rose hugged William the moment she spotted him
“I am so sorry, William. I couldn’t take care of her. Trust me, I was leaving the party the moment I saw her worried face, but before we could…”
“Calm down, Rose; it’s not your fault, and don’t worry, she will be fine soon."
Steve handed a glass of water to his mother while Stephen was in the emergency room. The nurse requested that she leave the room, but he ignored her. Eventually, the doctor requests Stephen to leave the room.
“Ok, I will leave this room, but I want her fine; no matter what you need to do, if you want any specialists, then arrange for it. Don’t care about money, but I want her fine. Just make a note in your mind; nothing I repeat, nothing should happen to her."
The moment Stephen exited the room, he reached to his mother, who was still weeping to hold William near to her
“How is she? What the doctor is...
“They are still examining her. “
Silence prevailed in the lobby. Robert also reach the hospital listening to the incident
Richard narrated the incident to his father, too., only that he witnessed as it shocked him to see Eva in that state
After half an hour, the doctor got acquainted with the smith family
William was the first one to ask, ‘How is she? What happened to her?”
"She is fine, Mr. Smith. Maybe she suffered from an anxiety attack. We gave her some essential medication. For now, she needs to rest.”
“And what about the injury?”
“First it looked like a slight cut, but then we noticed it was deep too. We have already treated it, but it will take some days to heal completely.”
“Can we meet her?”
“Yes, she is going to shift in the room, but she will gain consciousness after some time.”
William thanked the doctor, and all of them waited to meet Eva. Soon after, they shifted Eva to the VIP room. Stephen already gave instructions to the hospital authority that he wants the best services for Eva.
Rose looked at the pale girl, who was lying on the bed with closed eyes. Tears welled up in her eyes looking at her condition. She went near her in slow steps and stroked her head in slow motion.
“Dad, “ Eva murmured in sleep
Listening to which Rose couldn’t hold her sob, she left the room. Steve followed his mom. Whereas William got settled on the nearby couch
Rose was crying badly outside the room and Steve was trying to console her. “Mom, please, she is doing fine now
“What will I say to Michael? How will I face him now? You know, he already told me about Eva’s fear of dogs. And I instructed Mrs. Thompson too. She ordered the staff to fasten the dogs. Then how the hell did this happen? Poor girl; she was already not well despite that. She didn’t refuse my wish.”
Stephen, who was also listening to his mother, got something suspicious, so he went near her mom and inquired about her
“Mom, can you please tell me what happened there.?”
Rose gave a nod at him and narrated all the incidents series-wise to Stephen.
Stephen didn’t waste time and called the head of his security team. He ordered him to bring the guard of Thompsons to him, as he now has to answer many questions.
It was already night, so Rose stayed in the hospital with Eva, so William and Steve left for their home, whereas Stephen left for some important work, but before leaving, he made sure of the security arrangements in the hospital.
Stephen’s heart was not at peace. The only thing he was craving now was to know the truth.
Presently, he reached his office, where his men were waiting with the security guard of Thompson’s.
Stephen’s men tricked the guard in the greed of getting another job which would pay him an exorbitant amount and now the foolish man was standing in Stephen’s office
Stephen arrived at his cabin. He gave a stern look at the guard.
“So you presently work at Thompsons’, right?”
“Yes, sir, your men told me that your company needs a loyal guard. Trust me, sure, I am the most honest person you can ever search for."
“Hmm. Fine, you can join from tomorrow but for this job, I want some honest answers from you. “
“About what, sir?”
“ Today there was a party in Thompson Place, and some guest requested to chain the dogs
But some moments later, the dogs attacked some guests. How did this happen? I mean, I don’t want someone who cannot follow orders properly. The Thompson family is associated with us, so they told me about this incident. “
“Sir, they are not saying the complete truth. I agree that Mrs. Thompson first gave the order to confine the dogs in the dog cabin, but I released them on their order only."
“ You mean you got an order to do so ?‘
“Yes, sir."
“Mrs. Thompson gave you the order right."
“No, Elena madam ordered me to release the dogs. That poor girl got so frightened that she kept stumbling on the way and still she kept running for her life.“ “
“Ok, you can go now. You will get the job offer. soon, for now, take this. “ Stephen passed an envelope to him
“Thank you, sir."
The moment the guard left the cabin, Stephen made some more orders to his men and then dismissed them. Then Stephen also left for the hospital. He reached Eva’s room and found her mother sound asleep on the comfortable couch.
He knew his mother was a sound sleeper; her medicines helped her retain sound sleep.
So he was not worried about her presence, and, however, he was going to tell her soon about Eva. Stephen got settled on the chair beside Eva’s bed. He slowly stroked her cheeks with the back of her palm
“Hey love, you scared me today; just get well soon and don’t worry; I know who did this to you. Now it’s my turn to make someone scared for her life, so Elena Thompson, I am coming for you.”
He kissed her forehead, adjusted her comforter and left from there
The moment Stephen left the room, Rose opened her eyes and smiled. She skipped her medicine today as she has to take care of Eva
She heard it all and also saw it all, as it was a dimly lit room, so Stephen didn’t notice his mother’s eyes.
"Love, that’s something very interesting, Stephen Boy.‘
The next morning, Eva got her consciousness back. First, she searched for Rose, and she found her sleeping beside her only. Eva got emotional looking at Rose as she was taking care of her like her actual mother.
The nurse arrived to check on Eva. She was going to ask something, but Eva signaled for her not to make a noise.
Eva signaled her to help her in the reaching washroom, so the nurse removed the IV.
But as Eva was suffering from a foot injury, she settled her in the wheelchair first, then she made her settle in the washroom.
After finishing her morning routine, the nurse helped her change her dress. After making her comfortable on the bed, the nurse left from there
At the same moment, Steve and William enter the room with lots of food packages for breakfast
Last night, Eva's health caused them all to feel stressed, but when they saw Eva's smiling face, they all experienced relief.
“Hey, good morning, princess, how are you feeling now? “ William was the first one to ask
“I am better now."
Steve gave a charming smile to her from the moment he came to know about Stephen’s feelings for Eva. He was the happiest one, as his best friend was going to be a member of his family soon, and it delighted him.
“Hey sunshine, how are you? Look what I brought for your food and so much food!
“But why this much, I mean I...”
“No, you definitely need it; see, last night you skipped your dinner and then your midnight meal too, so you must be famished till now. “
Eva smacked his arm for his teasing
Stephen enters the room with a beautiful bouquet in his hands. He reached Eva and passed it to her.
William smirked at his actions, whereas Steve was grinning like he was watching some fairy tale romance.
Despite being shocked at his gesture, Eva held the bouquet and murmured a small thank you to Stephen.
Stephen asked nothing, just gave a nod to her
William noticed Rose’s sleeping figure. He slowly tapped her shoulder.
Rose woke up with a jerk. “what happened? Is she fine?
Eva glowed at her concern for her.
“I am fine; don’t worry,” she answers.
Rose gave a warm smile at her. But Steve was eager to tease her mom
“I am very disappointed with you, mom, You stayed here to take care of Eva but look how you are still sleeping."
Rose glared at him and left for the washroom. Soon Steve arranged breakfast for Eva.
The whole Smith family had their breakfast in the hospital room only. Eva was getting very emotional, as they were doing all this to make her feel good.
After breakfast, Rose connected the call to Michael, as she had already spoken to him last night and assured him that Eva was fine.
Eva got very emotional while talking to this dad. Michael was trying to comfort her by saying sweet things. After disconnecting the call, Eva sobbed hard, hugging Rose, and Rose kept consoling her.
After breakfast, William and Steve left for further work, but Stephen was sitting in the room. Rose smirked at his condition, as she already knew the truth now.
“Stephen, why are you here? I mean, the doctor is going to discharge her in the evening. You can carry on with your work."
"No, mom, I didn’t have any important work today, and don’t worry, I will work from here.”
“Well, I am very impressed by you. I always dreamed of you behaving like this with your wife, a total caring man. Proud of you, boy."
Eva got confused by Rose’s comment, whereas Stephen got suspicious of his secret. He already told Steve and Richard to keep his secret safe with them. Till the right time comes
At lunchtime, Steve again arrived with food boxes in his hand. The hospital provided meals to patients, but Rose refused to give that food to Eva, and so she made her cooks prepare a healthy meal for Eva.
They completed the lunch by chatting in between; an unexpected guest visit surprised them all
Mrs. Thompson and Elena were standing in the room with a bouquet in their hands.
Mrs Thompson and Elena greeted all of them. And then forwarded the flowers to Eva
Eva took it with a small thank you
They started inquiring about her health and rose kept updating them on her health condition
“But how could someone be so scared of dogs? “ Elena asked in a taunting tone.
she was already jealous of the way the smith family was caring for her, especially Stephen’s presence, which was making her more apprehensive
Eva didn’t answer Elena but Mrs Thomson covered up for her daughter’s silly mistakes
'Oh, come on, Elena, you also fear rats. So don’t you understand her situation?"
Elena gave a nod to her mother soon after they left the hospital. Rose left them till the lobby
“Don’t mind her. She is a crazy girl.”
“ Yes, I know, and she is an arrogant bitch too. “ It alarmed Steve to hear such words from Eva.
But Stephen got more suspicious, so he signaled Steve to ask more
“ Did she try something with you yesterday?"
“ Hmm, well, she tried to insult me in front of her friends, but I gave her a deserving answer."
Eva narrated all the incidents to Steve.
Stephen felt like an unsettled rage inside him. He was already planning to teach the Thompsons a lesson but now Elena has to face his wrath first, as the girl she insulted yesterday was his life
