Chapter 23
Chapter Twenty-Three
W hen they returned to the house, with full stomachs and glowing skin, the guys were all on the deck, having a beer and watching the sunset.
Katy went right up to Billy. “How was Boston? Did the Red Sox win?”
He smiled, a slow smile that lit up his whole face. “They sure did. We had a blast. Did you miss us? I have to say you’re looking especially pretty tonight. All of you are glowing.”
Katy laughed. “We just spent the afternoon at the spa.”
“Ah, that explains it then.”
Jason stood and walked over to where Anna was leaning against the deck railing. The sunset was gorgeous, with rich shades of pink and orange hovering over the water.
“You had a fun spa day, I hear?”
Anna smiled. “Yeah, it was nice. Good food too. What else did you guys do in Boston?”
“We had dinner in the North End before the game and then, after the Red Sox won, we went to a bar in Fenway for a celebratory beer. Then we walked back to The Lenox Hotel in the Back Bay. There’s an Irish Bar in the hotel, so we stopped in for one or maybe it was two there,” Jason said. “There was a guy on the guitar who was pretty good and the crowd was lively. It was a fun time.”
“That does sound fun. I miss Boston sometimes. I haven’t been to a Red Sox game in ages,” Anna said.
“We should go sometime then, before the summer is over. Maybe get a group of us to go,” Jason suggested.
“I’d like that.”
“Oh, we had the best coffee this morning. I might try to recreate it tomorrow. It’s had a thick foam and chocolate.”
“Mmm a mocha. That sounds great.”
Jason grinned. “If I can find chocolate syrup, and it comes out good, I’ll make you one.”
Anna laughed. “I will hold you to that.”
They didn’t stay up late. The guys were tired from a late night in Boston and the girls were ready for a good night’s sleep after the relaxing massages. They were all aware that filming started up the next day and everyone wanted to look as good as possible on camera.
Anna woke the next day around eight thirty to the sound of a gentle tapping on their bedroom door. She glanced over at Katy, who was awake, but laying in bed scrolling on her phone.
“Come in,” she called out, curious to who would be knocking so early.
Jason stepped inside, holding two steaming mugs of coffee and wearing a big grin.
“Remember, I mentioned trying a good coffee drink in Boston?”
Anna nodded. He handed her a mug and delivered one to Katy. “So, my experiment this morning was a success. I used the Nespresso machine, so it makes that foamy layer on top and just added a good squirt of chocolate syrup. I didn’t add milk, in case you didn’t want that. Try it and let me know what you think.”
“Thank you. It smells fantastic,” Anna said.
“This is so nice of you, Jason. We could get used to this.” Katy was all smiles as she took a sip of the coffee and then gave him the thumbs up.
Anna took a tentative small sip as there was still steam coming off the coffee.
“Oh, this is really good. I can taste the chocolate.”
“If you like it with milk, you can add that,” Jason suggested.
“I think it’s perfect. I usually drink my coffee black,” Anna said.
Katy nodded. “I do too. I stopped using milk in college to try to lose weight and just because it was easier.”
Jason looked pleased that the coffee was a hit. He took a step toward the door. “I’ll leave you to it, then. See you on the beach later. We don’t have anything else going on today, do we?”
“Nothing until dinner. Honey is cooking for us,” Anna said.
Jason raised his eyebrows. “She is? Is that a good thing?” He sounded skeptical.
Anna laughed. “I think it will be. I love her cooking videos and even tried one of her recipes and I’m not a cook and it still came out good.”
“Cool. Sounds good then. See you all in a bit.”
Jason left, and Anna and Katy exchanged glances as soon as the door shut behind him.
“Well, that was very interesting,” Katy said. Her look suggested that there was a deeper meaning to the coffee in bed, but Anna just laughed.
“I think it was sweet of him. I don’t think it means anything beyond that. He was telling me last night about wanting to try to recreate a coffee drink. I think he was just excited for us to try it.”
“Well, I meant what I said. I could get used to this.” Katy grinned and took another sip of her coffee.
