Chapter 12

Chapter

Twelve

Max dropped his pen on his desk and rubbed his face with his hands. Luckily no more attempts on Desiree have happened in the last few weeks.

For the last couple of weeks, he’d spent the evening with Desiree. They would go out to eat, talk for hours, curl up and watch the television together, and just be together.

They would kiss, fool around, talk some more, and just take things slow. He was taking things at Desiree’s pace, but fuck it was killing him taking things at this pace.

He wanted her so badly that he was afraid that when they finally did make it that far, he would embarrass himself. His hand was starting to revolt and act like it had a restraining order on his ass.

Things were going great, yet he felt like there was a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. He felt like they were both walking a thin line waiting for that explosion to happen.

They would check her motorcycle and her truck every single day to make sure the brake lines were not messed with and no explosives were attached to them. Someone was always doing the perimeter of the property while he stayed inside with her.

He was glad her brothers were handling their dating better than he’d anticipated. He’d been prepared for the death glares, the interrogations, and the harassment, even from his own brother.

“I swear if you’re sitting here thinking of banging my sister, I’m kicking your ass.”

“I wasn’t, but thanks for putting the visuals in my head now.”

“Asshole!” Teddy threw a napkin at Max.

“Why are you harassing me in my office during lunch?”

“Cause you look like you were pouting when I walked in.” Teddy smirked at him.

“Smart ass. What do you want?” Max sighed heavily as he leaned back into his chair.

“Jose and your brother are on the way here to meet with us. This was the most secure location I could think of. They are at the gate house now getting a visitors pass for the detective handling Desiree’s case.”

Max leaned forward and placed his elbows on the desk and stared at Teddy. There was something he wasn’t saying.

“Spit it out already.”

“I don’t know much. I know Jose and Tiny don’t like the detective.

Jose says the detective wanted to question you.

She thinks you have something to do with the accidents happening to Desiree.

” Teddy cringed as he said the words. “Just so you know, Jose already told her she was barking up the wrong tree and that all of us knew you’d never hurt Desiree. ”

“Did your brother say why she thinks this?” Max asked calmly.

“Timing is all she says when he asked. Jose doesn’t care for her.”

“He tell you who this detective is?” Max wondered as his office door opened.

Max looked over at his office door and rolled his eyes. Of all the fucking people in the world, it would be this bitch.

He leaned back in his seat and laced his fingers together over his stomach, relaxing. This interrogation was going to be interesting.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Maxwell Blackwell.” The woman’s eyes roved over Max’s body.

“Tamra Caldwell. Still holding a grudge because I wouldn’t give you the time of day back in high school or when you tried to get me to fuck you at the bar?”

“Please, don’t flatter yourself, Blackwell. You may have been the ‘it’ thing in high school. But you’re a nobody now.” Detective Tamra Caldwell sneered at Max.

“If I remember correctly, you blamed me for the fact that the football team, the basketball team, nor the guys that frequent the bars that are supposedly Special Forces not giving you the time of day, or should I say your life. Who did daddy have to pay off to get you that shiny badge you’re carrying? ”

“Your daddy pay for that uniform you’re claiming to wear?” Tamra shot back, glaring at Max.

“My brother has busted his ass for every rank he’s been given. He’s shed his blood, sweat, and tears for this country. What’s your issue with my brother, Caldwell?” Tiny angrily stepped forward to defend his baby brother.

“Brother? Since when, Moser?

“Since he was born after my mother married his daddy. My stepfather has never paid for any of us to get into anything that we haven’t earned by hard work and busting our ass.

Your accusations are out of bounds, Caldwell.

Max, why does this bitch have a problem with you? ” Tiny looked over at his brother.

“Because I wouldn’t give her the time of day. Even when I was drunk off my ass when Desiree started dating Bradley. So, now she thinks that I’m causing these issues with Desiree. What’s funny is I have solid alibis for each and every time something has gone down.”

“Do you now? Please give me that information.” Tamra rolled her eyes before glaring at Max some more.

“Let’s see…the first attempt I was at the gym with Teddy here, working out.

Teddy, in case you didn’t do your homework, is Desiree’s younger brother.

The second attempt, I was thousands of miles away in the middle of the jungle on a classified operation.

Oh, and Teddy here was with me the whole time.

Third time, I was in a classified meeting with my XO and military intelligence.

Oh, yeah, that time Teddy was with me too. ”

“Does Desiree know you’re a playboy with a body count? Her brothers know that when you get bored with her, you’ll just walk away. Oh wait, does she know you can’t get it up?”

“What the fuck?” Jose, Teddy and Tiny all said at the same time.

Max just chuckled as he shook his head. If this bitch only knew.

“Detective Caldwell, please enlighten me on his so-called body count. Considering both of my brothers and Tiny know him very well and I’ve known him for quite some time.

As for his dick not working when he’s around you, that sounds like a you problem because when he’s with me, trust me, it works very damn good. ”
